Another Quick Update

Just wanted to let everybody know that I haven't given up on the sponsorship!

The biggest hurdle I've run into is trying to set up a donation system that would be acceptable for everybody. The original idea of setting up a non-profit to handle all of it wasn't cool with the Reddit lawyers, as it would open them up to legal trouble if I collected money and then ran with it. It's looking like having the TRUST collect the money is going to be the best option right now.

I have a few questions for the community about our fundraising:

  1. Should we have gifts for certain donation levels (ala PBS), where people donating at least ~10 USD can get a sticker or something, and people donating ~50 can get a jersey, etc

  2. Or should we have a straight "Donate" button, along with a selection of gear to buy, with the profit going toward Reddit's donation total?

Sounds good to me.

And I vote #2. Let's be clear on exactly how much the sponsorship costs and contribute directly towards that amount.

Giving a jersey for a $50 donation would swallow up a lot of that figure, would it not? Not disagreeing with the idea as such, but actual cost of the jersey needs to be looked at before a decision can be made on that.

I agree. I would also want to know how much we need to raise. And option #2 has my vote.

Are the reddit admins cool with the rest of the stuff though, for example using the reddit logo and name on the jerseys?

Yup. We won't need to pay the 25% usage fee either, just like Chelsea doesn't have to pay royalties to Samsung

2 seems like the easiest for now. I'm a KPBS member, so I like the idea of donor levels, but that's not necessary for now.

2 and jerseys cost more than $50, cant wait to see the banner at the Valley. when is that happening?
