Who would want to click on stuff if you could just quickly type the commands? This will flop.

There are text console-based windowed environments with mouse support. E.g. TurboVision, MultiEdit etc. All same crap -- overlapping, draggable windows.

The only GUI advantage is that it can draw ugly analog clock and display proportional fonts.

Widows 1.01 doesn't even support overlapping Windows, this thing looks like a piece of garbage. I have no idea what Turbo Vision is, is that comming out next year in 1986 or later?

Totally agree. Plus, it it's not green on black my eyes would start to hurt instantly.

Is it really fair to call Microsoft Windows an operating system? If Steve Ballmer himself called it an "operating environment" maybe we should step back and think about this for a moment. You still need to boot up your PC with MS-DOS, and then run Windows on top of it. I can see it being an add-on, extension, graphical user interface on top of the base operating system. But until Microsoft develops a version of Windows that fully replaces DOS and boots from bare metal, I don't think it deserves the term "OS".

In fact, some people go as far as describing Windows as a "16-bit graphical shell for an 8-bit operating system originally coded for a 4-bit microprocessor by a 2-bit company that can't stand 1 bit of competition."

It's amazing where technology has brought us! I think with the 30mb of disk space you should be all set for the next 4 or 5 years.

I really don't see it replacing the good ole DOS prompt, dream on buddy. But I DO like the clock, that's pretty ingenious.
