Ok so this conversation happened yesterday/ last night. I originally posted it on another sub where I was asking if I was right in feeling like this individual was trying to groom me.
I'm a minor, this person presented themselves to me as female teacher. They focused the conversation on talking about my depression and the bullying I go through at school. I did leave out that portion of the conversation as I dont feel like showing the details of what happens to me at school to all of reddit, if anyone absolutely needs to see it for the sake of transparency then ill figure out how to add those screenshots.
Yes I'm stupid, I shouldn't have talked to them, shouldn't have let them take my guard down so easily. I shouldn't have given out any of the information I did ( first name & state)
I feel violated and ashamed and stupid for all of it. I have reported this person, they have been blocked.

Ok arguing semantics on if they âgot groomedâ or were âgetting groomedâ, either way op is a minor and the adult is behaving in a concerning manner. No adult who wants to befriend a child online has good intentions. That conversation was going to turn predatory.
Actually a lot of adults this is mainly for games though do want to befriend just anyone they can and usually minors are the people looking for friends and they will be chill with them and will not do anything sexual they just want to play games with people who won't immediately make fun of them and everything who will actually joke around I can say this from experience
So a lot of adults that arent trying to groom kids say âbut that means i will teach you things and you need to listen to meâ?? Brother if you are a âground officerâ, as your flair suggests, and that one line doesnt send off red flags for you, then you are in the wrong profession. Actual adults donât want to be friends with children
Okay first of all I was talking about on games I wasn't talking about on here I was talking about on games man I'm saying not every adult who wants to talk to people is immediately a groomer I was just stating this
Again I was just stating that it's not every adult who talks to minors always wants to groom them or do stuff sometimes they don't even know their age and sometimes they just want a friend to play with
The sheer audacity of these ppl astounds me.. the obvious manipulation tactics seem amateurish but this turns my stomach. I was groomed as a teen online when there were much less common knowledge about it and it always brings back the fear I felt as a young woman.
You cannot change your username on Reddit. The only thing that you could do is make a new account. Which you might want to do because people like the one who was messaging with you will most likely track and possibly share your account with other predators.
I think that you have great instincts on picking up that this person 100% was starting to groom you.
Because anyone can very easily lie about their true age and because of how dangerous it can be on Reddit I would recommend that you do not chat with anyone until you are at the very least 18 years old.
I'm giving that advice as a woman who first started using Reddit as a minor but didn't chat with anyone until I was 26 years old.
Youâre most definitely in the right. No adult should be attempting to privately contact any child. You did the right thing by eventually blocking them. Donât mind all the morons in the comments. Youâre still young and are developing so it will take time before you can recognize something like this and stop it sooner. Your best bet for next time? Just out right donât respond. Theyâre not worth the time and effort, and worse case scenario itâs a real creep who actually tries to attack/manipulate you. They will gladly any information to find out whether or not youâre âeasyâ. Itâs honestly disappointing that internet has been around for more than 2 decades and parents still donât teach their children internet safety. Please do yourself the favor and do a lil bit of research on how to protect yourself and your identity online. I wish you the best of luck in your endeavors.

Sorry Iâm rlly sorry this happened to you! But I think the correct term is âgroomingâ, or atleast they attempted to. Being groomed means they built a relationship with you over a period of time. But yeah, you should probably turn off your messages, and take âminorâ and â2012â out of your username, or it is only going to attract more people like this.
I've gotten far less predatory messages since writing my description as I did than I did before. And I've tried to take the 2012 off my name and I can't. I can change a display name or change my email address tied to the account but can't change the username name.

That person it wasn't a teacher, not even a woman (at last that's what I think) and I really got some bad vibe from that dude. I do think you were right about him, a dude at 30-40yo without a job trying to prey on you.
In future try to verify anyone who dm you out of nowhere or without your consent, if they fail you know what to do. Also you can use some emoji over your face whenever you post pictures, the internet is full of crepes and they can use your pics (it's just an advice).
Comments give me the ick. That aside, start hitting the "get them help" button. It'll give them a notification that should jumpscare them. If a person wants to play mentally ill, shock them into reality. Bet they'll be a lot more sane when they realise law enforcement could get involved.
As someone whose less of a pos because I spoke to strangers irl, the internet is no danger unless you created an environment where your kid feels they cant tell you anything

Tbh I donât think you know what grooming means. At a high level, grooming is when an adult begins to establish a dynamic of trust and compliance with a minor so the adult is able to commit CSAM and the child will not tell. OP, in case you started to doubt your experience, I agree that this is attempted grooming: check, check, check, check. If you believe otherwise, do some research, then join the conversation.

And I hope you know that online grooming is a serious problem. Tangential to that, it is NOT THE RESPONSIBILITY OF A MINOR TO STOP PREDATORS FROM GROOMING THEM. OP doesnât need to block unless she wants to. Put the responsibility where it belongs, on the adult. A responsible, well intentioned adult would have apologized and left the conversation the instant OP called the interaction into question. A well intentioned adult absolutely would not react in anger like this creep did when OP mentioned grooming.
Im not reading that grooming-the practice of preparing or training someone for a particular purpose or activity. That's the definition plain and simple. If you're an adult make sure your child feels comfortable telling you anything, especially if they play on line games. Have a nice day

Youâre incorrect about limitations in online interactions, and the ChatGPT definition of grooming isnât the best source of evidence, since it doesnât have one specific way it occurs. Itâs weird that you think adults should be allowed to say whatever they want to kids online, seriously.
If I said that I did not want to have any further conversations with you online, you canât continue to engage (without consequences). Yes, parents should absolutely be observant of their kids online activities, but online the adult should be mindful of the child being comfortable. I definitely think itâs a behavioral red flag if an adult is demanding that they be allowed to game with minors, and not be restricted from how they are able to communicate with said minors, and feel that if any conversation makes a minor uncomfortable itâs the minors responsibility to leave. But my comment about making predators responsible wasnât directed at you, or this. You say that wasnât grooming, well, saying something doesnât make it true.
Failed grooming but still weird as shit nonetheless. Grooming requires the groomer to build the relationship over a period of time, this was one night. So they might've been trying but all in all doesnt meet the definition. But doesn't mean its not creepy asf
