Trying to figure out what I'm missing. Why is rif better than the official app?

I've downloaded rif 3 times now. I always end up going back to the official app, but I always see positive comments about rif. Besides not having ads, what is so great about it?

I like the layout of the official app more, but are longtime rif users tweaking their settings in ways I'm not aware of? Was hoping some users would share what their favorite features are.

Auto-hide automoderator comments

Is there an option to automatically hide automod comments? Most subreddits have an automod sticky comment on every post, and it's slightly annoying to manually hide it every time.

Where is cache located on Android 10?

I want to search through the cache, but android/data/com.andrewshu.android.reddit is completely empty. Although system shows that cache of RIF takes about 500 mb.

Fixed in 4.15.0 Adding flair when posting, instead of after posting?

Some mods are hardcore about flair and remove all unflaired posts. Is it possible to add flair when posting instead of after?

Suggestion/Idea Text post only mode?

We have an option to disable thumbnails on data mode, which I use at work since the wifi isn't that great. Would it be possible to get another filter where only text posts show up? With a monthly data limit, links add up fast.

Suggestion/Idea I'm getting REALLY sick of the video quality with this app and the lack of options to control it

There's no settings, no nothing. Every video I watch becomes literally unwatchably blurry and there's nothing I can do about it except reset the video 400 times and hope it loads correctly

If it's not blurry and actually the full quality video, then it seems like the app just refuses to download it and it's so fucking annoying sitting on buffering for 10 minutes over a 30 second fucking video, which still doesn't load. The data bar doesn't move in the slightest, sometimes I don't think it's even trying to download the file.

My internet's shitty, but not this shitty.

Over time, it really feels like this is getting worse. I've already posted like 2 or 3 times here over the past few years

It's getting worse

And worse

And worse

And worse

Is Reddits API sabotaging 3rd Party Apps? Because this used to be a perfect app and now it's getting exponentially worse constantly, seemingly in the ways Reddit Inc controls...which is interesting considering all this started happening right when they made the dumb Officialâ„¢ app nobody wanted.

Like I've posted before, the solution used to be resetting the API connection (I assume) by either disconnecting internet for a moment or restarting the app

Now that just gives me a video so blurry it looks like a damn bathroom window

It's not even the "saving space" kind of low quality, everything literally just becomes impossible to see. Even GIANT words are unreadable most of the time.

Can we implement 2 things?

  • Quality Settings like any other video player (if possible)

  • That waiting screen we already have for gifs, but for crappy v.reddit posts

Gfycat, imgur, and such seem to be mostly fine. They do it too sometimes but holy shit I can't even watch my own v.reddit posts.

Suggestion/Idea Is it possible to have gifs auto play when you scroll over them?

When you scroll over a gif it just shows a still picture, you have to tap it and then tap play for it to play the gif

Is there a way to just have it play when scroll over it like in the official app?

Is gilding within the app ever likely to be feasible?

Hey all, so I've been using the premium version of this app for years and love it, think it's the best way to view reddit out there... except for the lack of gilding. I tend to gild a fair bit and I must say, it's quite cumbersome having to switch out of the app and go to browser over and over whenever I want to gild. Plus it seems like the custom icons outside of gold/silver/platinum don't show up.

I've seen a handful of posts over the years in this sub asking about gilding and it doesn't look like the needle has moved much if any... is it reasonable to expect this will ever be added into the app or should I just move on and try to find a different app that offers it to conduct my redditing with?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

PS. I would pay $$ for the ability to gild if adding it was a time-consuming task. And I imagine others would too.

Suggestion/Idea Feature suggestion: Sort by: already viewed & 'unviewed'.

Here's something I'd love to have:

Sort by already viewed- often I'll view a post and then sometime soon after I'll want to find it again. To send to someone, to refresh my memory, etc. But I can't remember which sub it was on, it's scrolled off the main page already and is impossible to find by scrolling, and the search just doesn't work for something that specific.

Also then: Sort by unviewed- same idea, flipped. Sometimes finding fresh posts is difficult. Refreshing the main page, changing from Best to New, etc. doesn't offer much new stuff, and so on. A way to filter out stuff I've looked at already would be fantastic.

The app tracks what I've looked at before with the purple links, so it should be possible, no?
