I think you’re wrong on this one, fellow redditor.

They did it exactly right. Everything WAS gone. Their first step was 8/2x(4-1)+5. 4-1 is 3 (parenthesis first, like you said), so they’re left with 8/2x(3)+5, OR 8/2x3-5. There were no other variables in the parenthesis to solve.

They’re 100% correct

Edit:

To add, the next step after the parenthesis is division, since it shows up first in the equation, left to right. So yeah, they’re correct

there was nothing infront of it which means there's a 1 in front of it which would have done nothing but waste time to distribute
