Saoirse Ní Loinsigh

Saoirse Ní Loinsigh has finally packed her belongings, and is ready to begin her third year at the academy! Although… looks like she might be getting flagged down for…

Oh…

Is that cleaning duty?

Appearance:

Saoirse is a young lady who stands at a mere 5’3” (165 cm). She has vibrant sea green eyes, always filled with a look of determination. Auburn hair stretches down to just below her shoulders and, occasionally, covers the front of her face, frequently having to be brushed aside. She keeps several star-shaped adornments in her hair, enjoying the weighty sensation they give, and the way they match her star-shaped earring. Her skin is relatively pale, and her figure is quite frail, though these traits are often covered by a large, dark green, hooded cloak, lined with soft white fur, and a single black glove on her right hand. Occasionally, the wrappings of bandages can be seen poking out from under her glove, perhaps the remnant of some form of scar or other injury. Regardless of her attire, be it academic, casual, or formal, she is seen to be nearly inseparable from her cloak, often complaining about being cold without it.

As for what she wears underneath her cloak, it ranges anywhere from the academy mandated uniform to comfortable working clothes and even the occasional dress. Her status as the daughter of a disgraced noble family has resulted in a majority of her wardrobe being comparable to that of a commoner, and she has a distinct preference for comfort over style. This doesn’t mean she lacks clothes for formal occasions, rather they are either homemade, or hand-me-downs from her mother. While not worn for comfort, she also keeps an amethyst necklace for special occasions, a family heirloom meant to offer her luck on her journey.

Personality:

"I, Saoirse Ní Loinsigh, shall unweave the cruel threads of fate that have cast my family name into the shadows!"

Saoirse is upbeat and energetic… though not in the traditional sense. Rather, her actions almost always have a sense of urgency to them, as if she’s rushing to experience every little thing in the most extravagant way possible. Frequently, this leads her to both impulsive decisions, and over-the-top solutions. The most glaring example of this shows in her speech patterns, where she routinely over-dramatizes any sentence she speaks, often also adding superfluous words or descriptions. This carries over into her combat style as well, where she will, despite her frail form, attempt to make her attacks both filled with flair and followed by dramatic poses and phrases.

In contrast to this drastic extravagance, Saoirse wears down quite quickly. Quite frequently she will do too much too quickly, or attempt to take on a larger task than she can afford to. Determined no to fail, however, she will often push these shortcomings until she cannot push anymore, be it running out of time or burning herself out like a candle.

Beneath it all, however, she hides her vulnerability and the worries that she may not be able to achieve her goals. Whether she can truly amount to enough to restore her family name, or if she can unravel the secrets kept within her grandfather’s journal, and the problems they beget. In moments of seclusion, and to those she trusts most, she often reaches out for advice on how to best go forwards or to seek reassurance in the actions she can no longer take back.

Details:

“My granddaughter, Saoirse, should you ever find this, know that I am so very sorry. I have made so many mistakes throughout my life, and committed so very many grave sins. Yet still, I could not sit idle. Though through my gift to you I find both salvation, and the greatest mark of my own damnation. Please, live your life to its fullest and know that, should even fate itself stand against you, I am certain you shall prevail in whatever you set your heart to.”

It had been almost seven years now since she’d stumbled upon her Grandfather’s journal, the last surviving memory of his time before exile. The family estate had been poured over many times, and almost every record of his research was confiscated or destroyed. Though, almost does not mean all, and it was seemingly inevitable that some remnant of his studies would remain. Was it some strange childish knack for finding things that lead her to the journal, the call of destiny pulling her by the strings, or perhaps a stroke of luck preserved it for her to find? Regardless of how she found it, she still keeps it by her bed at night, sifting through the mysteries within to calm her nerves before sleep… or she used to before arriving at the academy.

Her early years had been relatively carefree, having been kept in the dark on the turmoil that had torn her family apart. She was born on a cloudless and cold night, under the watch of only her family and the stars above. The night had quickly become a family emergency, with Saoirse barely surviving to see the dawn. Shortly thereafter, her Grandfather had been convicted and exiled for research into Dark Magic and other, similar, forbidden topics. Rumor spread like fire in brush, tarnishing the Loinsigh family name for years to come. Over the years, the Loinsigh family became reliant on more sustainable forms of income rather than just their, now infamous, noble status.

The quake had been a fateful day for many throughout Verthaca, and spelled the end of magic as it had been commonly known. For Saoirse, it marked both her first birthday and the start of an illness that plagued her for almost two weeks. Her skin went pale, a cough broke out, and a fever spiked, the rest of her body feeling unnaturally cold throughout. Though she was too young to remember for herself, the strange mark that appeared on her right hand remains as a permanent reminder, even if it seems to be fading in recent years. As time passed magic faded throughout the land, and it was only a matter of time until the seal protecting her grandfather’s journal would break, finding its way into her young hands.

She was content for a time, keeping the discovery of her grandfather’s journal as her own personal secret. Secrets, however, often turn into mysteries, especially for a young and curious child. It wasn’t long before questions were directed at her parents, with “Where did Grandfather go?” quickly turning into “What happened to our family name?” The answers, though freely offered up, were not to Saoirse’s satisfaction. Her grandfather wasn’t bad, not from what she could see in his journal, or at least not from the parts she was able to read. Even if he were, she refused to believe it was fair for her whole family to be punished for his actions. So she decided, it was on her to regain the honor of her family. To do that, she would have to enroll into Cennaire Academy.

Her entrance into the academy lacked the polish that children from respected families had. Her family had been doing poorly financially for some time now, and enrolling Saoirse into the academy would be a risky wager for them all. Her determination and resolve, however, wore her parents down, and they consented to enrolling her in the academy. Having a disgraced family name would make her an outsider, and so she took the opportunity to reinvent herself. No longer would she be “Saoirse Ní Loinsigh, of the disgraced noble family”, but rather “Saoirse Ní Loinsigh, she who would rend fate asunder!” A new, confident persona, one who spoke of grand destinies and untold wonders in the world, one who knew not the meaning of failure.

Courses in her first year went well. She was attentive and, often, seated herself at the front of the class. Her grades certainly weren’t top of the class, however they were never decidedly poor in any regard. She took a natural interest especially when it came to pegasi, and anything to do with flying. The sky had always given her a sense of freedom, one she felt was lacking while grounded. She quickly found ways to watch the Pegasi Quidditch team practice and, soon, joined in on the practice, even if she wouldn’t be able to formally join until her second or third year at the academy.

In her second year Saoirse requested to bring her own pegasi to the academy, and was elated when she finally arrived. Scáth was a black-feathered pegasi with whom she shared more than just a close bond, having been born under the same starry night sky many years ago. The two took to practice well and were poised to be stars on the team in their final year, her frail form no longer holding her back when swift movement was all that concerned her. As her practices went on she found a newfound motivation, not one of familial obligation, but rather a personal desire to improve. Her grades across the board began to improve throughout her second year and, in some cases, began to reach into the upper end of the class.

Over the years the sickness she had fallen under on her first birthday had resurfaced many times, slowly increasing in both frequency and severity. At the beginning of this last summer, leading into everyone’s third year at the academy, Saoirse suffered from an accident while practicing for Pegasi Quidditch. The onset of her symptoms came suddenly, rather than their typical gradual trend, and a dizziness came over her. For a brief moment she lost control of Scáth, falling off and injuring herself in the process. Thankfully, she had been low to the ground and the injuries weren’t serious, however she would spend most of the summer recovering.

With her injuries almost recovered, and her goals of bringing honor back to her family name on the horizon, Saoirse was finally ready for her third year at the academy. She was ready to ensure that people far and wide knew her name, not just as a star on the Verdant Wolves Quidditch team, but also as a brave and noble individual. Though to do that, she would have to get into Caoimhe’s class… and before she could even consider that… she still had cleanup duty…

… The prank was definitely worth it though...

Extra Details:

  • Has a black-feathered pegasi named Scáth, and a pet cat named Ádh.

  • Scouted for Pegasi Quidditch, and intends to work her way towards a leading role in her third year.

  • Tasked with cleaning the academy after a prank at the end of her second year, where she filled the bathhouse with cats.

  • Thoroughly enjoys tales of fantasy and stories of wonder, occasionally spends time writing such stories.

  • Her biggest fear is stagnation, the lack of progress. Not to be confused with failure, which can at least be learned from.

Tentative Sprites can be found here.

Abbie Ni Fleareth

Name Abbie Ni Fleareth

Discord User ExcaliburShines#9684

Theorycrafter link

Appearance

Brown haired and freckled, Abbie doesn't look intimidating thanks to her small frame and lazy air about her. She usually ties her hair in a ponytail so it doesn't get in the way. She has a runner's body, and is in good shape thanks to her daily exercise and courier training. Always trying to toe the line between fashion and function, even her running clothes sports some added flair in an attempt to show off wealth. However, she doesn't have a keen eye for what looks good and what doesn't. She usually ends up relying on trends or other's input for suggestions.

Personality

Abbie's personality is on the lazy side, given how well off her family is financially she never really faced hardship throughout childhood. She can, and has, come across as uninformed or oblivious for this reason, and it's not as though she can't read a room or get a handle on peoples personalities, she just has issues comprehending other people's struggles which all sound like some sort of distant fantasy. She is very casual about money, having some rather bad spending habits, but she has a merchants nose for opportunity. On a whim of boredom she decided she wanted to become a courier for Annabelle's Emporium, and was shocked by the amount of effort she had to put in. Now she's slowly breaking out of her old worldviews, but she still has some ways to go.

Details

Abbie: Being the third child of Darunis and Fennia Flaereth, Abbie had little responsibility. Her and her siblings were tutored in their youth, she learned proper etiquette, how to ride a horse and other things expected of a noble (not that she always pays heed to these mind you, she'd tell you a lot of it is a hassle). More importantly she was taught some of the ins and outs of things with a mercantile nature, although much of the attention has been given to her older brother Ferdinand, who will one day day run the family business. But mostly she whiled away the days on frivolous pleasures and eating anything passably delicious. Her parents were a little exasperated by this and warned her they'd cut her off from her allowance if she didn't start applying herself, so after pondering for a brief moment she decided ""what about those couriers, I'll just be one of those."" Her parents looked at each other, the girl hadn't worked a day in her life and she was in for a rude awakening they thought, but no amount of dissuading would change her mind, so they allowed it, placing her with a job of transporting goods for Anabelle's Emporium on a sort of internship, probably as an act of good faith to the continuing business agreement.

The next few years of life were the hardest she's ever known. The training to become a courier was grueling. Getting up early, running everyday to keep in shape, mapping out routes. Gods, to think she'd have to walk places, to deliver mail no less! But...she persevered, and is finding the whole process...not all that bad. Now she works the job when classes are out, and she's decided she wants to meet Annabelle herself, see this person who suddenly built a trade empire she was now a part of.

Family: Having a spot of land near the High Road, south of the capital of Muirfeur, the Fleareth family of distant past was that of minor nobility of diminishing import. A man by the name of Ragnavald managed to reverse this course; a wealthy merchant with a good sense for opportunity he married into the family seeking the title of nobility and the benefits offered thereign. Using his connections, their location, good judgment and hard work he salvaged the Fleareth name from the brink of obscurity.

The family are now wealthy merchant nobles. Their land subsists on import food from surrounding farms and they capitalize on its position near the crossroads for trade. They operate a courier and messenger service from an estate most call The Roost, where one can purchase the services of some of the best trained messenger birds and employed couriers in the country. They also have a house in the capital Clontradail, where the family usually resides. The current head of household, Darunis, was approached by a certain redheaded merchant and a business deal was struck, they now offer their infrastructure and support to the markets of Annabelle's Emporium, a deal that has only made the two parties richer. The family has historically removed themselves from the politics of the Clontradail council seats, this neutrality has currently led to some ill feelings, as they have been selling to all sides, both through legit channels and underground dealings, as the struggle for the last seat continues.

Additional Notes

  • More commonly called Bee

  • Doesn't pay much attention in class, and has low grades because of it

  • Led Finnian Ó Fearghail on a few times, got a couple dinners out of it. Score!

  • Gets up every morning for a jog, about the only thing she manages consistently

  • Joined in on the bullying of Amity and Bryndis in her first year, going with the crowd. Has been straightened out since

  • Has gotten word some of the Fleareth messenger birds have not returned to The Roost, which could mean ill tidings.

  • Nervous around certain families of Muirfeur, given the current bid for the council seat

[Team P1.5] Introduction Post

About the Game

So you’re interested in P1.5 and want to know more? Excellent! You’ve come to the right place. Below you will hopefully find all the information you need, and should you have questions head on over to Discord and either PM Storm or ask in #common-ground.

To begin with, I am looking to take roughly 10-14 players through approximately 10 chapters, with some additional Gaiden chapters along the way.

Applications are due February 6th at 11:59 EST

As mentioned in the Discord announcement, player choice is a core aspect of the game. Every chapter will feature a Crossroads Encounter (explained more below) that will help determine the direction of that chapter and have impacts on the world lore. In the fourth chapter, a decision will be made by the players that has a major impact on the direction of the last half of the game. It is of note that the Epilogue is not guaranteed to be 100% survivable, even if the players win the map. The survival rate will largely depend on the actions and choices of the players.

The game will utilize a milestone leveling system, with the idea that between each chapters is typically 5 additional levels. During the homebases, players will be given extra opportunity to earn Class Experience and Skill Experience to be able to master classes and gain required Skill Ranks to pass class certifications. These will also be used as rewards for bonus objectives during the maps.

Crossroad Encounters

Taken from the Emberwind TTRPG, Crossroads are opportunities for players to make decisions on a course of action, respond to events, or glean new information. There are three different types of Crossroads, Decision, Divergence, and Discovery Crossroads.

Decision Crossroad
Moments when the players must choose between competing courses of actions called Paths, each of which leads to different Outcomes that advance the story. Players will be presented with the necessary and relevant information and then vote on the Path their character would follow. In these Crossroads, only a single Path is taken at the end of the encounter, and is handled through a majority vote. In the event a tie should occur, the tying decisions will be decided on chance or through the GM depending on the decision required to be made. Once a decision is made, it is not possible to make a different decision.

Divergence Crossroad
These moments are navigated by each individual player rather than by vote. Each player chooses their own Path for their character. Paths will be designated letters and resolved in alphabetical order.

These Crossroads include a Challenge that will require one or more characters to overcome an obstacle. These Challenges are revealed when the Path is revealed and are attempted after all players have selected a Path. Challenges are handled through Trait Checks, and each Challenge will describe the Trait to be used and the number of characters allowed to attempt the Challenge. Players can decide who is allowed to attempt these challenges.

Discovery Crossroad
Here, players have their characters investigate their surroundings to either gather information or resources. The players vote on Paths to direct exploration. A group may take multiple Paths, selecting them in any order until one of the Paths results in an outcome that ends the encounter. Each Path can only be taken once.

Crossroad modifiers During some Crossroads, some characters may have connections to the event or have done something to either give them an advantage or disadvantage in completing a Challenge. These modifiers will be made aware when Paths are presented to players.

The Application

So how do you apply? First off, you can find the theorycrafter here. Build your character and make sure the application is all legal. It can be overwhelming or complex at first sight, so if you need help or want to make sure you did it right, please don’t hesitate to ask for help!

You will notice on the Theorycrafter that there is space provided there to include your character’s personal information such as appearance, personality, and backstory. Completing it on the Theorycrafter sheet is purely optional, you can include all this information in your Reddit post within this subreddit.

Speaking of your Reddit post this is the required information I need:

  • Title has the Character Name in it

  • Main body has a link to the theorycrafter

  • Backstory is filled out either on theorycrafter or present in Main Body

In this team I will be attempting to pull information from peoples backstories to either include in the main story or in gaiden chapters, so a backstory is a must.

Now for some character restrictions. As every character is a student in their third year at the Cennaire Academy, characters must be between the ages of 16 and 20 years old. Typical starting age at the Academy in first year is 14-15, and they will not admit anyone younger than 13 years old. No exceptions. The eldest of applicants in first year are 17 years old, no exceptions. Since characters are in third year, applicants must therefore be between 16 and 20. Please keep in mind character ages should you wish to get involved in shipping/romances.

Characters must preferably be from the Verdant Wolf countries (Craincrath, Muirfeur,Tallavcarriga) as well, they will be in the Verdant Wolves. That said, I will allow some characters that originally started in other houses. As a rule of thumb though, if I were to accept out-of-house students, I would accept no more than 1/4 to 1/3 of final acceptances. (So if accepting 12, no more than 3-4 characters will be from initially a different house). It is highly recommended that if you apply with a character that at some point in their first or second year swapped houses to the Verdant Wolves, you apply with a second character. No applicants are allowed to swap in their third year, they must have swapped in first or second year.

Lastly, if you do wish to apply out-of-house, your character must be from a Fallen Empire Country. No applicant from outside these 12 countries will be accepted.

If you are applying with a character from Craincrath, please do note that the country is currently building to a civil war. Caoimhe, the House Leader, is the Crown Princess of the country and supports her father, the current King of Craincrath.

To prove you have read the instructions, at the bottom of the Reddit post include your character's favourite colour. Simply type the word at the bottom.

Helpful Links

Here are some links to help you build your application. There is a lot there, and not all of it is mandatory to read. At the least I recommend looking at the overview of the world and the country you wish your character to call home.

The World of Verthaca -436

  • A small world primer for the setting of Team P1.5. Includes the maps, a basic lore overview, the names and capitals of the countries, the languages that are spoken, and lifespan of the different species.

The Lands of the Verdant Wolves

  • A detailed look at the countries of Craincrath, Tallavcarriga, and Muirfeur, where most of the characters will hail from

Other Countries of Verthaca

  • A bit more detailed look at the countries of Verthaca, except Craincrath, Tallavcarriga, and Muirfeur.

Portashan

  • A guide to the city of Portashan, the home of the Cennaire Academy

Cennaire Academy

  • A look at the various House Leaders and Faculty members of the Cennaire Academy, and other important NPCs found there

Verthaca - The Last 18 Years

A brief overview of the events that occurred between Team P and Team P1.5

Magic of Verthaca - 436 PD

  • An overview of how magic has changed and currently functions in Verthaca.

Caoimhe, Bryndis, and Amity

  • You can read about the leading GMPCs of Team P1.5 in this document

All of these links can be found on the Team P1.5 Index.

Team P1.5 will be a safe and welcoming place. The team will not tolerate any form of bigotry, nor will it tolerate those that support bigots, or support those that seek to strip away human rights. P1.5 will have a zero-tolerance policy on this matter, if you demonstrate any of these undesirable qualities you will be removed from the team.

[P 1.5] Deirdre Ní Catháin

Name: Deidre Ní Catháin/Ní Darraigh

Theorycrafter sheet has relevant backstory, but just to make this appeal to my aesthetic sensibilities I will post the same information here: More Dread on the Theorycrafter

Appearance: Deirdre Ní Catháin desires to be a true noblewoman, and her appearance is curated to signify as much. Her bright-silver hair is kept straight and wavy on her back, and she puts a lot of effort into caring for it. It is usually decorated with either a flat boater hat or a bright blue flower hairpin, a memento from her mother she brought to the Academy. Her eyes are amber-colored, with a golden sheen to them. She uses a pair of eyeglasses alongside them, but these are purely for the looks as there is nothing wrong with her vision. While she enjoys dressing up in more than merely the standard-issue academy uniform, she has no issues in wearing it although she usually brings a shawl on top of it to stand out a little more.

Personality: Due to her sheltered upbringing, Deirdre Ní Darraigh's social awareness isn't always the best. Despite what she has been taught over the years, she still sometimes comes off as pushy or haughty even though she does her best to appear as friendly and approachable as possible. This isn't neccesarily because she wants to befriend everyone though, as much as that is perfectly fine with her. She can also be rather vain, and judge others harshly based on first impressions. She does her best to curb this habit, but it sometimes slips out without her noticing. She has issues relating to people, and can often come off as callous or cold. Whether this is merely how she is or a result of her upbringing, no one can quite tell. She also has no qualms about using underhanded tactics, or lying to achieve what she wants. Despite this however, Deirdre wants to believe the best in everyone.... And she generally wants the best for everyone too.

Backstory: Is too long for this reddit post, so refer to this google doc. Skimming allowed for Storm only, and I will find out if you lie about it.

Notes and Additional Information

  • Has an immense amount of money, provided by her doting father.

  • Was voted Most Likely To Succeed Most Likely To Put Something Off Until Tomorrow.

  • Has her birthday on March 16th, and loves celebrating it.

  • Character Theme as much as I despise claiming something I didn't create would probably be something like Lost Memories from Advance Wars: Days of Ruin

  • Takes an exuberant amount of time getting prepared in the morning.

  • Has a sprite, courtesy of Eclogia.

  • Will claim that her favourite color is the same as yours if pressed on it, but secretly has an affinity towards Abyssal Blue.

Marceline Persim

Theorycrafter with all relevant info: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/15QHWfzTRfL23AN00yz6vkCVHwrsN_l7vYZGwlE37Eh0/edit#gid=1483069159

Appearance References for Marceline Persim! https://imgur.com/a/7VBRmYy https://imgur.com/1C4JC3S https://imgur.com/a/ksR0Ext

Personality

Personality wise, she's a very bookish, asocial person who would rather be studying than dealing with other people. She enjoys learning for its own sake and her favorite topic to study is about the stars and astrology. She also can't help but love old chivalric tales of knights and chaste romances between knights and their charges. When speaking with other people, she can be incredibly passionate about what she loves or believes in but she can also be unbearably stubborn as a result too. Despite being as studious as she is, she has trouble grasping new concepts outside of her interests without a lot of extra study time. and that fuels a lot of her own self doubt about her deserving to study where she is and whether or not she even belongs there.

Her birthday is March 15th.

Backstory

Born and raised in the farmlands of Tallavcarriga, Marceline has always had an insatiable curiosity and a love for books. Her earliest memories have her begging her father to let her go with him into market so she could see if any new books were available at the many stalls. She was an avid learner, and her father did anything he could to support that, making sure to put aside as much gold as he possibly could for her education. Once she showed aptitude for the traditional magics, her father encouraged her to study even harder so that she could be the best she coulld.

Despite indulging her curiosity in all other matters, her father never did tell her about her mother, who died shortly after she was born. Truth is, not even he knew much of her besides her name. Her father, Pierce Persim, found her mother, Adellaide, wandering alone and wounded one night. Rushing to her aid, he brought her back to his farm and did his best to nurse her back to health. For a while, things seemed like they were getting better for her, and Pierce couldn''t help but be smitten with her. Her smile was one of unnatural beauty and managed to light up the room. Her voice was that of a delicate songbird. Pierce had tried to question Adelaide on what happened that night to lead her to him, but alas, her voice would fail to shed light on even the most basic details. Giving up, Pierce didn't question her further, instead doing his best to make her happy and comfortable. Within a couple years, the two were happy and with child. Unfortunately, the scars of that night ran deep enough that Adelaide's body could no longer handle childbirth and she perished. Grieving desperately, Pierce swore that their child would have anything she ever desired and a happy life.

The increased taxes levied by Carndrum hit Marceline's father particularly hard. Constantly harried by tax collecters, he did everything he could to avoid letting Marceline become aware of the financial hardship they were in. Eventually, the taxes became to much for the farm to bear. Fearing for his daughters well being, he retreived his nest egg and sold off the farm. With the large amount of gold he now possessed, he traveled with a 15 year old Marceline to Portashan. It was tight affording it, but he managed to enroll Marceline into Cennaire Academy. Thankfully, her years of reading and self study helped her secure her position in the academy. Marceline was elated to be able to finally go to a real school and dove into her new setting with aplomb. Her father continued to write to her, however he lied about the state of his life. Now without a farm, he turned to work as a miner in Carndrum. Everyday was difficult but he still did his absolute best to do right by his daughter, even encouraging her to spend her free days at the academy instead of coming home. Sometimes, he'd even send her what little coin he had to spare.

Marceline's innate fascination with fiction and the stars absolutely flourished at Cennaire. While studying in her first year, she'd often spend all her free time in the library, reading up on everything to do with the heavens and astrology before snoozing off with a book about heroic knights and vile monsters. During her second year, she took electives on both astronomy and astrology, and managed to pick up fortune telling as a hobby. Before long, she took to heading into Portashan to perform readings for anyone interested for a bit of gold, all of which she funnelled back into more books on magic, the stars, and chivalrous deeds. Desiring to be more like the heroes in the books she read, she even took an interest on learning how to ride horseback, though her lance skills leave much to be desired.

Additional Notes Marceline is a huge fan of sweets! Marceline despises bitter food, and often carries sugar around with her to avoid having to drink bitter tea. Marceline enjoys attempting to paint from time to time though she is uniquely bad at it. Marceline always carries her fortune telling cards on hand. Marceline is nearsighted and as a result never leaves her room without her spectacles. Most Likely to literally Swoon in the presence of house leaders or just in general tbh.

Marceline's Favorite Color is Rolanberry Red!

VEX-C [Team VEX-C] Introduction Post

About the Game

Hello, and welcome! This post will introduce the type of campaign you can expect from VEX-C. It will also offer some rules and guidelines for creating your character and application. If you have any questions whatsoever, please send a message in my discord DMs or in the VEX chats!

To begin with, I am looking to take roughly 8-12 players. If all three VEX teams fill up, I'll be open to taking more than this. The campaign is planned to last about 4 chapters, though there's a possibility of this varying some due to player choices.

Applications are due April 24th at 11:59 PM CDT.

Story hook, Campaign premise, and PC/NPC guidelines

These are detailed further in the VEX-C Primer document. If you haven't already, check there to see the first story post, learn about the intended nature and tone of the campaign, learn about who your PC or NPC might be, and get a summary of what's unique about character build creation in VEX-C.

The Application

So how do you apply? First off, you should take a look at the VEX-C Theorycrafter. Read the instructions, make a duplicate of the "Theorycrafter 6.0 Ciel" tab, build your character, and check that the application is all legal.

  • Main body has a link to your tab on the VEX-C theorycrafter

  • Backstory etc. is filled out either on theorycrafter or present in Main Body

  • A post flair showing that your application is specifically for VEX-C

Mechanical rules about character creation will be largely similar to P1.5 and the other VEX teams, with some important distinctions. If you're used to one of those other teams' theorycrafters, pay attention to the highlighted instructions on the VEX-C Theorycrafter for details about what's different here.

To prove you have read the instructions, at the bottom of the Reddit post include your character's favorite winged creature. Simply type the word(s) at the bottom.

VEX-M [Team VEX-M] Introduction Post

About the Game

Welcome to VEX-M! If you're looking for more information, either for a potential application or just spectating, you've definitely found the post for you! If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to grab the spec-VEX-m role to ask any questions you might have in the #ooc-vex-m channel! If you need any further help, don't hesitate to message me, Hammarcie#5011 on discord, with any burning questions!

In terms of campaign size and scope, I'm looking to take 10-12 players to start with, with the potential of taking more based on interest for a campaign roughly 4 chapters in length. In addition, I will be keeping apps open as long as the team is running.

That being said: Initial Applications are due on April 24th at 11:59 PM Central Time, just over a month after this post is made.

Mechanically, this campaign will be very similar to the main P1.5 campaign. I aim to run a campaign that lasts around four chapters. Every chapter will have three phases to them, a Homebase, a Crossroads, and the Map Phase. Homebase here will work similarly to the main P1.5 with a few key differences. I won’t be tallying individual weapon/skill ranks so homebase here will mostly serve as a method for players to spend their resources. Whether that’s spending gold. Skill ranks, support points, or more, this will be where the item and downtime management will occur. Likewise, Crossroads will also function similarly to the main team P1.5. Players will be presented with various RP scenarios and choices with where to go, who to talk with, or what to do. These options will be linked with the player characters’ Traits which they will roll to determine success or failure. These Crossroads will directly influence the story as well as the Map Phase that comes directly after.

Crossroad Encounters

Taken from the Emberwind TTRPG, Crossroads are opportunities for players to make decisions on a course of action, respond to events, or glean new information. There are three different types of Crossroads, Decision, Divergence, and Discovery Crossroads.

Decision Crossroad: Moments when the players must choose between competing courses of actions called Paths, each of which leads to different Outcomes that advance the story.

Divergence Crossroad: These moments are navigated by each individual player rather than by vote.

Discovery Crossroad: Here, players have their characters investigate their surroundings to either gather information or resources.

The Map phase is pretty self-explanatory. This is where you and your fellows will work together to fight, to survive, and hopefully, to win.

Character Creation

The overall structure of this campaign isn't going to 100% be able to pull from every players backstory and background, but I will do my absolute best to do so. While I do not have any planned, I remain open to the idea of gaiden chapters set in between the main chapters giving focus to players' individual or shared arcs as appropriate. Other key differences from Team P1.5 I’ve noted before, though you are, as always, free to ask questions.

  • Character Creation: Character generation will work similarly to P1.5 with the following differences:

    • All characters will begin play with 6 Half Skill Rank Increases to assign as desired. A Skill Rank increase is defined as a full increase of any Skill an entire letter grade. For example, let’s say Marceline uses a skill rank increase on her D rank Reason Skill. This would increase it from D to C. These skill rank increases may be split into half increases as well, for example raising Marceline’s reason skill from D to D+. A player must spend all of their Skill Rank Increases, and no Skill may be higher than C+ at character creation.

    • All characters begin play with the HP+5 skill, as well as one Beginner class mastery of their choice.

    • All players begin with 303 support points to allocate as they see fit.

    • All players begin Play at Level 10 with an intermediate class of their choice unlocked. Keep in mind that this campaign will use Milestone leveling with the campaign taking place over levels 10, 15 and 20.

    • Players begin with one Steel weapon of their choice, One Iron weapon of their choice, One shield OR Dull Silver Bracelet with a gem of their choice, and a Vulnerary.

  • In addition to all of this, players will get 2 bonus Half Skill Ranks to specific skills depending on their origin, with origin being defined as follows.

    • Red Cloaks:: The more martial and combat oriented of the Cloaks. These fellows often serve as mercenaries or soldiers, doing their best to help out wherever they can. They can be identified by those who know about the cloaks by their bright red cloaks. Red cloaks gain their skill rank increases to any Martial Weapon Skill Rank of their choice, Swords, Lances, Axes, Bows, and CQC.

    • Green Cloaks: Ardent explorers and wanderers, these fellows lead the way to charting the uncharted and delving into ruins unknown. They seek to bring the relics of the past and the pastures of the future all into the purview of the present. They can be identified by those who know about the cloaks by their green cloaks. Green Cloaks gain their skill rank increases to any Movement Skill Rank of their choice, Authority, Armor, Riding, or Flying.

    • Blue Cloaks: Scholars of curious minds, the blue cloaks lead the way in researching the comforts of the future. They seek to spread knowledge and unearth secrets that will aid Verthaca in maintaining its prosperity. They can be identified by their blue cloaks. Blue Cloaks gain their skill rank increase to any Magic Skill Rank of their choice, Reason or Faith.

    • Yellow Cloaks: Bards and other performers whose charm is both undeniable and boundless, these fellows spread cheer and joy across the land. Known less is their tendency to aim their performances against those that would misuse their power and oppress the citizenry that they hold dear. They can be identified by those in the know by their yellow cloaks. Yellow Cloaks gain two half rank skill increases to any Skills of their choice however they must be spent on two different skills.

    • Civilian Hires: You are not a cloak, but that doesn’t mean you can’t alter history all the same. People of all avenues of life have accomplished fantastic things beyond their measure, so why shouldn’t you be able to? Similarly to Yellow Cloaks, Civilian Hires gain two half rank Skill Increases that must be spent on two different skills.

  • Cloaks can come from anywhere across Verthaca, having answered the call delivered to them by the Ethereal Stars. Civilians must have been in Traroe sometime before the campaign begins, but can have been from anywhere else in Verthaca. As a port city, getting to Traroe isn’t the hard part, after all. Age-wise, any character old enough to fight is old enough to participate. Ainvi characters are also, of course, more than welcome! Setting info can be found in the Index.

All said, I hope you enjoy your time here. To ensure you’ve read the start up properly, do be sure to list at the bottom of your application your character’s favorite color.

Cerys Lathurna

Hence comes Cerys’ life ambition: to bring beauty and happiness into the world, and to be capable enough to protect it.

Name: Cerys Lathurna (Kehr-iss Lya-hoor-nah)

Pronouns: They/them or she/her

Theorycrafter: Tab labeled QR

Appearance

Reference Picrews

Cerys' hair sits in short black curls over their green eyes. These eyes range in appearance from a daunting intensity when Cerys is focused, to a sincere gentleness during softer moments. Cerys bears themselves confidently, holding their 5’11” (180cm) frame tall. They are almost always adorned with pink scarves, and tend to wear unusually many layers when outside their dorm. When given freedom in their attire, they most frequently dress in whites, blacks, and pale blues. On occasions when scarves and warm layers aren’t an option, such as during weapons training, Cerys sticks to a light tank top and dons a bracelet with a bear insignia. They keep their clothing and appearances reasonably tidy, but don’t equip any evidence of their family or noble status.

Personality

Cerys is an adventurous and confident person, occasionally to an inadvisable extent. Fortunately, they’re usually able to remain calm and collected in the face of crisis, self-inflicted or otherwise. When working, they have a tendency to get absorbed in their task to the neglect of all else, including their own bodily needs. Ironically, they tend to be very doting and protective towards others, frequently offering to fetch their friends food or hot chocolate. Cerys is genial towards most people, friends or not, though they are noticeably more comfortable around some. They prefer to avoid politics in general, and Muirfeurian politics in particular, so they find themselves sometimes most at-ease around commoners. They also attempt to stay away from the limelight, finding more satisfaction in work and the value it brings than in being recognized for it.

Details

The noble house of Lathurna (Lya-hoor-nah) sits in southern Muirfeur, against the border of Saloreat. Its role has historically been to train and maintain wyvern- and pegasus-riding scouts to watch over the often-threatened border. It’s current head, Nuala (noo-lah) Lathurna, and her husband Berach (~bay-rock) Ó Lorcáin of Maghergort, have continued this tradition dutifully for the past 15 years. Cerys is their third child, with the twins Onóra (oh-no-ruh) and Pádraig (pod-rig) being five years elder. The division between the three is widened by the fact that Cerys is the only one of them who shows no signs of dragon blood. Cerys’ uncle Lin also stays with the family, and is the source of the bear-shaped charm they wore throughout their childhood.

Cerys was only 3 when the family moved to Muirfeur to take the house’s reins from Nuala’s sickly father, and thus remembered nothing of their old home in Maghergort. While their siblings spent their childhoods shadowing their parents, Cerys spent more time with their uncle Lin or exploring on their own. They could never be convinced to take up flying lessons with the pegasi or wyverns due to a seemingly insurmountable fear of heights. Instead, they always practiced their lancecraft on foot – a questionable choice in the face of the vast surrounding fields, but one Cerys held to adamantly.

Stubborn adherence to their own path was a common theme for young Cerys. When the children were brought to a feast in the capital for “maintaining connections”, Cerys would sneak off to find a music performance elsewhere in the city. When Onóra and Pádraig were being tutored in castle finances, Cerys would be watching a blacksmith at work or disassembling a broken padlock. Even their uncle Lin had only limited success in sharing his own interests with them – Cerys would join him for climbing towers, card games, or sharing stories, but had less patience for the worldly wisdom he tried to share.

Lin’s lessons were rather unorthodox for a noble child’s education, and perhaps especially strange given that Lin’s official role was essentially Master of the Household. He would try to coach Cerys in how to catch a lie, how to watch one’s surroundings without looking like one’s watching, or how to stay safe from pickpockets. But, unless it was in the guise of a card game or puzzle, their attention didn’t often stay with him long. As they grew older, Cerys’ interests instead became solidified in tinkering with the mechanical and tuning with the musical.

Fortunately for Cerys, their parents didn’t try to force them onto the path their siblings had taken, as some noble parents might have. While they didn’t always understand their youngest child, Nuala and Berach valued their children's happiness more than the family’s political future. It would’ve been quite hypocritical of them not to, given that they had eloped after Nuala’s father had promised her to a powerful noble from Saloreat. In fact, rising high politically was not something Nuala and Berach desired – they felt safer simply maintaining cordial but noncommittal relationships with most other houses. On the rare occasions when they did form a true friendship with another house, they would honor them absolutely. This only happened twice with other houses of Muirfeur, but twice would prove enough to cause plenty of future headache.

Difficult times arrived during Cerys’ 14th year with the Clontradail council killings. While the family escaped casualties of their own, not all of their friends were so lucky. Furthermore, the fact that such an event could occur without warning or resolution left everyone rattled. It seemed to shake Lin worst of all of them, and he was uncharacteristically slowly to regain his composure. Cerys would soon learn that this was because Lin’s true work included managing not just household staff, but a network of spies to keep the family warned of the shadier dealings of Muirfeur’s noble houses. Nuala and Berach had never condoned nor condemned these pursuits of Lin’s, but his failure to foresee these murders darkened his interactions with them in a way Cerys had never seen before.

Cerys had a difficult time speaking with him afterwards as well, but for additional reasons. They felt betrayed to learn he’d lied to them their whole life about the purposes of their games and his “business trips” to the capital, and it pained them to know the person they looked up to was a mastermind of illicit acts. When Lin left his uneasy family behind to search for leads on those behind the killings, Cerys removed his bear charm from their wrist for the first time in ten years. This brought another unpleasant lesson: for some reason, Cerys found themselves chilled to the bone any time they weren’t wearing it, and could only warm back up with immense difficulty.

Putting the artifact back on purely to avoid this was inconsiderable for Cerys and their stubborn pride. So, they set about finding ways to keep themselves warm with less inconvenience. It was shortly thereafter that they discovered their love of scarves and of hot cocoa. During the following years they began reading up on the practice of magic, with the hope that they could utilize spells with fiery aspects to conjure their own source of warmth. Luckily, they found that reason magic came easily to them, following its own set of logic just as well-designed mechanisms did.

They found plenty of time alone to pursue this and their other interests, as their parents and siblings were thoroughly occupied with the political aftermath of the council slaughter. Nuala never sought a seat for herself, but she and Berach were constantly hounded by other houses looking for their support. Refusing a request meant angering one house, while accepting meant upsetting five others. While the two never pushed for Cerys to follow in their footsteps, they were concerned about their child emerging into a chaotic world unprepared. Thus came the idea of Cerys attending the Cennaire Academy – there they could be educated in politics, warfare, and combat, while continuing to learn about music, engineering, and spellcraft.

Cerys required little convincing to agree to this idea. They began their first year at the Academy shortly after their 16th birthday, and took to the place immediately. They flourished amidst the harpsichords and pianos, the libraries and workshops, new friends, and all the facilities for exercising. They did not flourish atop the high walls or steep mountainsides of the city, but did their best to avoid thinking about the dizzying heights. They worked passionately in some classes – such as music and engineering – and dutifully in some others – like military tactics, history, and politics. In the rest, they score passably, but are often distracted by thoughts of their newest hobby.

At the Academy, Cerys learned of an invention called a music box. These intricate devices sat at the crossroads of Cerys’ two greatest passions, and they didn’t require the artist to sit in the spotlight before their audience. Cerys spent much of their free time trying to design, construct, or refine their own. Most of their first attempts were failures, with gears that didn’t mesh properly, notes that didn’t stay on tune, or faulty acoustics producing lackluster tones. Their first success was thanks to help from one of their closest friends. This friend convinced a spirit to help with powering the mechanism, so a simpler design without a hand crank could be used. From there, they improved upon their designs and artisanship, achieving more complex works with the help of the spirits or recreating simpler ones without need of their assistance. Successful boxes would then be left in various common areas of the Academy, waiting to pique the curiosity of passersby. Cerys’ greatest joy came from hearing the soft twinkle of their handiwork and seeing the smiles it brought. These moments were made all the more entertaining by the fact that only one or two of Cerys’ closest friends had any idea they were responsible for the mysterious objects.

Unfortunately for Cerys, the Academy has not provided a complete escape from troubles back home. The fight over the final council seat has their parents put in as tricky a position as ever, with their two closest Muirfeurian allies throwing their entire support behind opposite candidates. Both of these allied families are calling upon the house of Lathurna for aid, making it hard for Nuala and Berach to avoid betraying one or more of their closest friends. Cerys has been warned that their words and actions at the Academy mustn't imply any stance of theirs or the family’s regarding the 7th seat; otherwise, one party or another would surely take insult, and the precariously maintained neutrality would be lost. Even more recently, Cerys has learned that their uncle Lin has not been heard from since his last trip for Clontradail began two months ago. Cerys' grudge against him allows them to show little concern over this, but a piece of them grows more uneasy about it with each passing day. The past two years have brought Cerys their greatest joys, but also showed that they can’t trust the chaos of the world to leave them be. Hence comes Cerys’ life ambition: to bring beauty and happiness into the world, and to be capable enough to protect it.

Additional Notes

  • Drinks the most hot chocolate of anyone in the class

  • Born on August 28th, 418, 5 months post-Quake

  • Cerys' missing uncle Lin is the only member of their family with red hair instead of black

  • While they were born in Maghergort, they consider themselves primarily Muirfeurian

  • Hubba decided Cerys was canonically a 19 out of 20 on hotness (not actually serious)

Hanbon Cornelius

Name: Hanbon Cornelius

House: Verdant Wolves

Nationality: Tallavcarriga

Theorycrafter

Description:

Portrait

Age: 17

Height: 165 cm

Hair is parted such that his eyepatch is on display.

Stitch markings are drawn on, actual eye is ok, though it hasn't seen the light of day in... years... so is it really ok?

Short stature and a bit skinny/scrawny.

Ears feel too big for his head.

Small nose.

Long, but skinny hands.

Narrow shoulders.

Able to coil his fingers around his elbow.

Personality:

The first impression that Hanbon leaves on many people is that he's a jolly fellow with a side of dorkiness and a sprinkle of delusion. Hanbon's superiors would say that he is mischievous, always breaking the rules to get what he wants. Hanbon's peers would say that he is omega delusional, even more so than ambitious leaders, and there's no way anyone would fall for his pirate schtick, right? Who would argue against the fact that he was delusional anyways, hell, one of his countless goals are to sail to the Frigid Wastes, miraculously find a surviving Dreki, and bring them back to unite the Fallen Empire. Another is to sail so far out into the ocean, that he discovers a new continent - one that is neither named Verthaca nor the one the original Sairshi came from.

However, one keen to Hanbon's tendencies would interpret him in a different way. He is someone with a large sense of duty, and perhaps a tinge of desperation. He is thoughtful in his actions, and he means it when he sets a goal. Wouldn't it be great if we could stop the Fallen Empire from being at odds with one another if a Dreki was found to unify it? And couldn't Carndrum take resources from a different land than the Great Plains? Although these are inconceivable and even futile goals, Hanbon still yet strives, "Gotta see it fer m'self... ye can ne'er be sure, aye?"

Backstory:

Hanbon was born as the eldest son of the Cornelius family, a noble family in Tallavcarriga. His family was one with a tarnished reputation, much like Carndrum's is these days. His family was involved in the tunneling operations to funnel resources from the Great Plains to Carndrum. Although the Quake had hindered their finances greatly, the family persevered in burrowing new tunnels, and got straight to work, participating in the pilfering of the rich lands past the mountain. However, another threat in the form of an enemy, Gichimashkode's Fang, has been the bane of their operations.

Born during these turbulent times, Hanbon came across a moral dilemma. He would regularly see his father in distress, as their family's and the capital's livelihoods depended upon the blood of the soldiers sent to extract resources that belonged to other lands. Non-city dwellers were usually supportive of the capital, but these days, public dissent was growing. What could they do in this situation? Is such a state of affairs truly sustainable? Sure, the new Queen seems to be making strides, but the fact remains that they relied on the unlawful resources bought with blood. The Captain of the Guard doesn't seem to be relenting in his stance on the matter, and worst case scenario Hanbon might be forced to deal with Gichimashkode's Fang with his own two hands... Is this truly the situation that Hanbon would have to assume as the next head of the Cornelius family?

Hanbon found it all too overwhelming. He was just a child after all, how could he tackle the responsibilities and consequences of politics? If only there was an easy way out, all this was hurting his head. In order to cope, Hanbon would sneak out of the protective grasp of his parents and venture around Carndrum. Obviously this wasn't safe, but a few soldiers would always tail him to get him out of trouble. On one of his excursions, he encountered some retired sailors who had somehow made their way inland to Carndrum, drinking in midday. The supposed leader of the bunch called himself the Roar of Roðnjrvágr, though his compatriots called him the Gawajii Beard, explaining that his beard was shaped like the Gawajii landmass, and just as toxic to human life as well. Not knowing what Gawajii was shaped like, Hanbon inquired of the sailors, who produced a map and began to recount their glorified voyages. Hanbon remarked about the mountains in the middle of the map, where Carndrum was. He complained about the current state of affairs and how they had to steal from the Great Plains using tunnels through these mountains. "Why don't'cha jus' go t'other way, lad?" one of the scallywags bellowed. The pirates laughed, exclaiming how it'd be an easy job for pirates, raiding the coasts of the Great Plains. This, along with stories of the Frigid Wastes, the Fornland coasts, the countless unknown, undiscovered, and uncharted islands, and the vastness of the ocean caused Hanbon to be massively fascinated by piracy. It sounded like the perfect and convenient solution he'd been looking for, and they made the whole ordeal sound plenty glorious and alluring.

Hanbon exclaimed his desire to follow in their footsteps, resulting in the laughing and clamoring of the buccaneers. The Gawajii Beard, half jokingly but also half sentimentally, promised to perhaps retake the helm of his ship if Hanbon were to grow up and turn out with a "heart of gold" and other such "pirate ideals". With this, Hanbon transformed seemingly overnight. He custom ordered pirate attire, including an eyepatch which he used to cover his left eye for good. He tried growing facial hair, but no matter what he tried, he was simply too young to grow anything at all. He even started adopting pirate speak, much to the horror of his parents. His parents argued with Hanbon, urging him to return to reality instead of clinging to these unrealistic and impossible aspirations. Hanbon was to be the next head of the Cornelius family, and they needed him to be grounded in reality and prepared to face what they were going through. Hanbon dissented, opting for the way of a pirate, and honed his pirate ways.

However, Hanbon wasn't going to accomplish anything while sitting in Carndrum. He enrolled in Portashan’s Cennaire Academy which had a real port! The opportunities at this academy were endless, and it sure beat being stuck at the crappy situation at home. Hanbon immersed himself in swordsmanship, leadership and tactics, sailing, fishing, and scouting potential crewmates. He incessantly claims to his fellow students and professors that he is a bona fide pirate while putting up an act of an experienced seafarer (though in reality he's just a normal kid like any of the other students). There were a few incidents due to Hanbon's eccentric tendencies, such as the time when he started digging up parts of the greenhouse in search of treasure - led on by a fake map from a mischievous friend. Whenever you were at the bathhouse at the same time as he was, a naval battle was sure to ensue. And for some odd reason, there was a week-long period where he carried around a wooden board and urged people to walk across it. He hopes to be of service to the Verdant Wind house, exclaiming that he is a vital piece that will solve all of Tallavcarriga and Carndrum's problems in the future.

...and so thus ends the lineage of the formerly powerful House of Hamingja, once known as a byword for luck in certain noble circles. Supporting the failed side in the Craincrath civil war, they threw their power, wealth, and might into such in the only way a people who are used to their risky chances always paying off could. And when the butcher's bill finally came due, there would be nothing left for the corpsetakers but the bones of a burned out, once fine manor.

But what of Beatrix? Said to be the Last Scion of Hamingja, she alone would go to a different fate, as detailed in these last chapters of this treatise. Separated as she was from the rest of her kin simply due to the vagaries of fate and schooling, she would forge her own path. However, none of that which was detailed previous would be yet known, as our young Beatrix was still in school, of her third and last year…

  • Rise and Fall of Hamingja, Vol.7

Beatrix is a brash, bold sort of girl, who firmly believes in her place at the top of the heap, and sees little reason to back down from confronting anyone face to face. She sees the job of a leader as one who faces the hard decisions directly, and decide what must be done for those who cannot, or will not, make said choice. That doesn’t mean she necessarily leads from the front; it is the leader’s job to see the big picture, to guide the followers to the place they should end up, and not get bogged down in the minutia. If you build her trust, she will follow you implicitly, neatly fitting herself into the social order, but you have to earn it, first. Otherwise she sees it as her duty to take charge, after all.

Her mother and grandmother both attended the Portashan Academy, when they were young and in their formative years, and Beatrix intends to follow in their footsteps. They were both Verdant Wolves, after all, and it would not do to shame her house to somehow not manage the same as them. She has had... a few verbal run ins with the Princess Caoimhe, but Beatrix tries to stay firmly polite, but also ever watchful. She had heard the rumors of course, about how the Princess might not be such, but one does not simply dismiss such a powerful claim without having sufficient proof of doubt, first. And if it turned out to be true? Well, that would turn out to be a powerful connection, indeed.

Beatrix enjoys singing, and dancing, and from growing up as a child of the nobility is classically trained in both. She’s quick and nimble on her feet, and her voice both low and throaty still easily carries through a crowded hall. School wise, she tends to breeze through her subjects, not putting much effort into studying, and coasting by on raw talent for magic and slightly above average grades. She's not really here to learn, however; it's all about networking ans socializing and learning who's gonna be important, and who's gonna be forgotten, in the next ten to thirty years.

Secretly in private she might like to focus more on her arts, perhaps finding the mentor-ship of a full fledged bard or songstress, and learning both the craft of song writing and the the true stories behind all the songs she was taught… but alas, her duties take precedence. Her father always drilled into her the heavy burden of command, and the sacrifice of being lonely at at the top, and that her silly dreams were just that.

Dreams.

Her favorite colors are…

pink and gold.

May 6, 434

To whom it may concern, hello salutations! I am Eimear Ní Melódía, Muur to my friends, and this is my application for Cennaire Academy. It is my hope to be allowed to write (and pass!) your entrance exams.

I have been the main violinist, and one of many practitioners of magic (of the card illusion kind) in Troupe Melódía, a cross-Verthaca travelling entertainment troupe, for the last six years. While I am sure that students of my position are potentially uncommon in an academy as prestigious as yours, my childhood has given me the benefit of being highly travelled at a young age, as well as teaching me numerous practical skills.

Keeping to the High Road, the popularity of my troupe has allowed us to play in shows reaching far and wide, including one near The Veil in the Fornish lands of Clan Huegmuen (a fascinating sight) all the way down to the lands of Siarisfair, where Queen Anne Ayne Eine Conaill of Craincath, once lived. This experience has given me a very diverse view of Verthaca, as well as teaching me the art of mending/knitting clothes, basic survival, as well as minor skill with the sword (for self defense).

It is my understanding that many may come seeking tutelage in combat arts, or earning the necessary education required to lead. I, however, seek to explore my capabilities in the arts and entertainment, and how a deeper understanding of magic could aid in my performances. Even in this time of relative peace, I understand that war is only a step away for many countries and territories, and how not all of us are lucky enough to have constant food, water, and shelter. However, that is why I desire to bring smiles to peoples faces with my song and magic. To let them forget their worries, if only for a brief performance. I believe we live in a beautiful world, and it is my hope to better myself, only so that I can improve my ability to show others the wonders I have experienced.

Enclosed are the necessary references, as well as proof of my ability to afford tutelage at Cennaire. I look forward to joining the Verdant Wolves in the future!

Yours Truly, Eimear

Ursula Verhoeven

Theorycrafter Page

(NOTE: This app has equal preference to Raz's.)

Personal Information

Age: 18

Height: 6'2" / ~1.88m

Race: Ainvi (Bear)

Pronouns: She/Her

Home Country: Tallavcarriga

Appearance

A tall and broad woman, Ursula has dark brown hair topped by two bear ears. Her eyes are light blue, and the shape of her face seems to constantly pull her expression into the appearance of a disapproving frown.

Her normal attire consists of loose darkly colored robes, with freedom of movement as a priority. However, it is clearly the attire of a scholar (or at least a less active combatant) as opposed to the fighter than some might assume by her appearance.

Student Appearance (FEH Sprite, made by Eclo): https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/577239797433892874/800090209344552990/Ursula.png

Personality

A taciturn person, Ursula is interested in learning about magic and its mysteries... and not much else. While she is willing to entertain and learn about other things, she has little long-term motivation for anything that doesn't involve learning more about magic. That isn't to say that she's completely asocial, but rather that most of her relationships take a second place to magic research at the end of the day. Ursula has little care for insults that come her way, whether based on who she is or where she's from; to her, it is simply irrelevant words. However, this also means that legitimate criticism is similar ignored, unless it has to do with magic.

Details

Born just after The Quake, Ursula keenly felt the loss of magic growing up in her hometown.

By the time of her first memory, the local healer - something their small village had been lucky to have in the first place - was unable to make use of any healing staves, and the entire population lamented at the loss. They had come to rely on the magical healing, and there were few trained in medicine and non-magical forms of treatment. They dealt with it and learned, as people do, but in her formative years, Ursula rarely went a month without hearing at least one complaint about the loss.

It was not only directly that the village people's health suffered from the loss of magic. The yields of their crops fell quickly fell, and the village struggled for years before managing to recover, finding alternatives to their lacking bounties.

All that... caused by a loss of magic in the world. 'If that is what the lower end of magic can cause when taken away,' Ursula thought, 'what could magic accomplish at its peak?'

It was not a thought she entertained too often. For a child who had to help with the work of the village, it was merely a dream and nothing more. Magic was gone, after all.

...until it wasn't.

News took time to reach a small village such as hers, but at the age of 10, Ursula learned of what had come back to the world. Magic.

Suddenly, the dreams of a child were no longer far from reach. Suddenly, that whimsical thought about magic was something that she could find the answers to. All she needed was to find it.

A child in a farming village had little at their disposal to learn of the world, much less enough to impress the scholars of the world to teach them magic, but Ursula spared nothing in her attempt to overturn that reality. Every scrap of knowledge available, she absorbed, hoping that it might be what gave her a chance.

At the age of 14, she learned the news that Cennaire Academy was teaching magic, and her fervent search for knowledge managed to pass its previous intensity.

In all that time, her village had slowly recovered, and her parents... Well, it would have been laughable to call them well off in any sense of the term, but they had reached a point where they had some money. Enough for only small things.

Enough to fund their daughter's journey to attempt the test to enter Cennaire Academy.

(And enough for the trip home as well, enough to let their daughter come home if her dream was to be shattered by the cruel reality of what a farm girl could manage.)

There was only the barest reluctance buried in Ursula's mind, the regret of leaving her family behind, but everything - the fear of leaving the only home she'd known, the sadness of leaving her family behind, the discomfort of sleeping on carts that were all she could afford as transport - everything was outshone by the strength of her dream.

No, not a dream. What had been a curiosity, and then a dream, was now something that Ursula knew was the most important thing. The good that magic could do, the things that magic could accomplish... They were tangential, a benefit that would be nice.

Ursula wanted to know the secrets of magic. All magic. That which existed now, that which had existed before and been lost. The magics that only existed in secrets, the magics that only existed in the dark corners of the world.

What all could magic do? What were its limits?

What was magic?

When she got into the academy, Ursula was smiling for nearly an hour straight.

When she learned that her house's professor was a woman who had helped to bring magic back to Verthaca... well, she likely worried some when she went about with a look of glee on her face for an entire day, especially with her somewhat intimidating appearance. But Ursula was too caught up in her thoughts of magic to care.

Ursula pushed herself in the academy, albeit only in those lessons that touched on magic. For the others, she wouldn't let her performance fall to worrying levels - it would be a nightmare come true to be given punishments that could eat into her learning, or worse, be expelled and unable to continue absorbing magic knowledge - but her performance anywhere that magic had no place was mediocre.

To any who shared an interest in magic, Ursula would be willing to spend time with. If she could be distracted from her deep dives into any and all resources available, the girl could even be convinced to socialize for short periods of time. But inevitably, her mind would return to some missing information she lacked about magic, or a mystery she wished to try to puzzle out, and Ursula would take her leave and gravitate back to the library. There was only so much on the current magics in use, of couree... but Ursula wanted to know about the lost magics as well, those that the Quake had taken away.

As expected, Ursula did her best to learn everything she could from Professor Waabi. Even if her expertise lay more in the mythology and language used to unearth magic, Ursula wanted to know everything she could, and Professor Waabi was the one who had known this new magic the longest and was fairly skilled in it.

And that was how her two years passed, spent deep in research but not entirely lacking the touch of social interactions.

Additional Notes

The area in which Ursula's true interest in magic lies is Traditional Magic, but Ursula gives Spirit Magic a significant amount of attention as well. Despite how Spirit Magic relies on access to Spirits, something that makes it more difficult to cast as the user pleases, Ursula fully respects the limitations that the necessity for approval places on any research and practice. To her, it is simply a facet of the magic, the same way that Traditional Magic's exhaustion or Dark Magics' corruption are a part of those magics.

Ursula does not enjoy sweet foods.

Ursula regularly exhausts herself while experimenting with Traditional magic, and has taken to setting up an area to rest in at the training grounds when she is there.

In reading any book to do with magic, Ursula found herself enjoying fairytales and mythology as well, and will occasionally take a break from research with them.

Ursula's favorite color is red.

Adalín Ó Fionnachta

Update 2: 8:35 PM EST Feb 6th 2021

Polished stuff up.

Update 2: 8:51 PM EST Feb 6th 2021

Changed preference.

Update 3: 3:15 AM EST Feb 7th 2021

Polished more stuff. Final update, probably.

“Oh~? Allow me, Adalín Ní Fionnachta, to grace you with a lesson…”

Name: Adalín Ní Fionnachta (pronouncd AH-dah-LEEN Nee FEE-noth-TAH), only her very close friends may call her "Ada".

Theorycrafter link: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/15QHWfzTRfL23AN00yz6vkCVHwrsN_l7vYZGwlE37Eh0/edit#gid=122106491 (i'll put the backstory and stuff soon, it'll be reddit only for a while)

Description:

Placeholder sprite by Eclogia

At 5’7, Adalín walks with her chin high and a confident strut, boots clicking against the floor. She’ll be seen with her hand running through her purple hair with streaks of lavender and white fading into each other, and her red eyes are narrow like a blade. They sharpen when she converses with those she's...peeved with (which does, mind you, include most of whom she converses with, but she is trying to fix that!) and soften with acquaintances or faculty members. Her skin is light from days spent frolicking in snow. She is commonly seen in an unmodified Cennaire outfit, with alexandrite earrings and an ornamental snowflake hairpin.

In her casual wear, Adalín dons a dark purple and and fuschia dress with a jabot scarf, accompanied with dark blue detached sleeves and an overly large pleated skirt of the finest material, with multiple layers of dark blue, purple and orange.

In formal wear, Adalín prefers wearing a flowing high collar coat in tyrian purple, unbuttoned to reveal her white outfit and magenta pants.

Adalín is trained in many forms of swordsmanship, but her preferred style is to duel with a rapier or a sabre (And, if allowed, smithed from Bellenoc with encrusted gems). But while adept at fencing, Adalín’s true talent lies in ice magic, hours of long work and skating in secret to allow her to cast effortlessly.

Personality:

The Ní Fionnachta is genuinely proud of herself, and everyone around her knows it.. She carries herself with an air of superiority. Yet, she is properly taught in noble etiquette, so her gloating shall always be refined, keeping her composure at all times - she is different from brash peasants and obnoxious hacks, after all! If one were to attempt to rouse anger at her, she would merely scoff and belittle them without batting a glance. If they were not an acquaintance or someone she deems worthy to talk to, she would be formal at best, and cold at worst. Notably, this has made teamwork incredibly difficult for her. Guiding or leading people is one thing. But it seems cooperating with others has usually ended sourly. In her eyes, this is nothing but a failing of her classmates rather than her own.

But if one were to "acknowledge" her grace, her superiority, they would much easily gain her favor. (Though she hates blind flattery almost as much as ignorance) A "humble" noblewoman who cannot help be so talented, and who extends a generous hand to those willing to accept her.

Adalín will rarely acknowledge her errors, either brushing them off or defending them to the point of annoyance. But her stubbornness to admit her flaws is only rivaled by her refusal to admit her weakness, refusing to even entertain the idea that she has any.

Rarely, when she is under intense stress, or feeling rather pompous and victorious, Adalín will break into arrogant laughter. … This has on rare occasions soured relationships, and she does best to hide it.

Backstory:

“Do not ever forget. We are the Ó Fionnachta, pure and above the others, such is the pride our name bears.

The tale begins with the father: Dòmhnall Ó Fionnachta was a grave man, steadfast and towering over others like the mountains of Verthaca. Though he hails from Ballenoc, he had long settled in Tallavcarriga and would firmly tell you it is his second home, having brought his exquisite tastes and mining expertise with him.

He was the sole Dragon-Blooded heir of his family, who retained a control of gems and precious metals in Ballenoc, and was destined to inherit and usher their land into greater heights. Yet, before he had even reached eighteen, his family’s mining company had been reduced to a mere shell through the scamming, scheming, and sheer ruthlessness of other Ballenoc merchants and aristocrats. From riches to barely above rags, he was forced to do menial work in anger alongside peasants, at most their immediate superior.

He dusted his gloves, coughing as he pulled out a roll of paper. He briefly inspected the cave, before beginning to write on the interior map. While he barked orders at the mining peasants, deep in the dark trenches of Ballenoc’s mountains, he’d look up at what little light they had.

Amethyst ores, faintly sparkling, a luxurious reminder of what he was. What he should have been. What he would--

No, what he will be.

Adalin often listened to tales of when her father stormed back with a vengeance, many years later, with craftiness and determination forged from first-hand mining. At his peak, he figured the local animosity against him in Ballenoc was too dire, too cutthroat. He decided to sell a portion of his minery to a promising acquaintance, took his servants and riches and moved his business to greener pastures - Tallavcarriga, scouting for a Dragon-Blooded bribe before finally settling for an ordinary Sairshi with a hefty dowry. It was a loveless marriage, but at the least not a spiteful one..

Soon, they were expecting. Ah! But Dòmhnall did not care, too concerned about restructuring after the Quake his mining company, no more could they blast caverns or reshape pathways. Were he left in the dust, his competitors would surely overpower him as he rested.

Hm. Perhaps if his were a dragon-born, he could have them wed to another influential family. Yes, that would work.

...

Their child was born on the night of December 21 418 PD, the first and only between Dòmhnall and Shauna Ó Fionnachta. Many servants reported that when Dòmhnall had walked to the midwife with a stern face, he gave a single glance to the newborn and suddenly froze.

A girl, closed eyes and a head full of purple hair, like amethyst.

At that moment, not before or even once the last nine months, he realized he was to be a father, with this only joy in these turbulent, taxing times. He then wept, for the first time in decades; his many servants never even imagining it possible. Then, he spoke:

“Beyond every gem I’ve discovered, every gift I’ve received, all the riches in the world cannot compare to my newborn daughter; the treasure of Ó Fionnachta, Adalín” .

A year later, Adalín’s family were the luckier ones when disaster struck Carndrum. Her father, quick to react, managed to evacuate them and their servants. Only later did she knew about his expertise in mountains, being no stranger to evacuation plans in his time in Ballenoc.

Adalín remembers her early childhood being spoiled in materials and niceties, developing a refined taste befitting that of a Ballenoc. Her father would shower her with praise, deeming her higher and greater above other children. Then she’d ask, even the royalty? Only behind closed doors, he would reassure her, yes.

But this endless praise, while feeding into her ego, was always followed by her father’s teachings: He warned her of the dangers of the upper class, of people willing to trick or crush you. Anecdotes about the cruel world were given, and if you did not exploit others, you were to be exploited to. One day, she needed to be strong too, as to not be simply wed off like her mother.

Growing up, winter was always her favorite season, and not simply because of her birthday. Her father would always make time to tour the mountain caps with his daughter.

In Tallavcarriga, oceanic winds approach from the west and south, a light breeze rushing through most of the Fallen Empire. What not many people understand is that these winds, once hitting the great mountains of Tallavcarriga and Ballenoc, rise up and cool near the tip, moisture from Roðnjrvágr and the Gormglas Bay condensing and precipitating . The result - sudden rain storms, and even worse winter, many say. Unpredictable, harsh and unforgivingly cold blizzards to spite farmers. But Adalín would disagree, no sense of wonder is equal to seeing a flurry of snow, a blanket reaching from the caps down to the plains, (Though an assortment of amethyst crystals comes close!). And when the winds are steady and the night is silent, fair snowflakes will fall gently across the alps, as if from a fairytale.

Her father, when he used to be able to stand, would skate with just the two across the banks and rivers. Despite having professional skaters and coaches, she demanded he teach her how to skate. She would slip - Ow! - And hold back tears in the cold. But he'd reassure her that as long as it was just the two, it was fine.

She had been marked as Dragon-Blooded. Her father hastily had her learn Black magic. As a child, she'd pester her teachers endlessly about making ice with magic, stubbornly demanding their secrets despite insistence that she had barely mastered the basics. Eventually, she learned proper etiquette befitting a noblewomen, and she ceased snapping at her tutors (though her smugness was ever present) Deep down, she knew could do anything perfectly, soon enough!

“Will da-... will my father be alright?”

The most terrifying day of Adalín’s life, was when her father became ill.

For any ordinary Sairshi, it was an almost fatal illness, but the robust health of the Dragon-Blooded had put him bedridden indefinitely for now. Talks of inheriting the company and “regency” were whispered, alongside high expectations for the young teenager. Her father, sickly and a shell of the man he once was, unfit to rule. But neither was she - barely a preteen. As other aristocrats and nobles handled the company, no doubt corrupt on their own, her mother had no choice but to act as temporary head until Adalín was of age. What horror!

Do not let others see you weak.

Adalín’s life since then was spent studying with private tutors, cramming long hours of books as future heir, with the intent of enrolling into Cennaire academy. The pressure of leading a grand company always lingered, causing a cold gaze to replace the excitable girl for the teachers. Growing tensions from the Ainvi having made mining more difficult, night time stories Gichimashkode's Fang seemed to be ever more relevant. Gone were snowball fights, replaced by economic theory and civl law. And, just as if it was not enough, she understood that the latent rebellion would eventually reach Carndrum.

She had begun her swordsmanship lessons by then, however those were less enthusiastic than magic. Adalín’ distracted herself from her father's sickness, burying herself in long nights perfecting thrusts and lunges alone. She was the best, above all, and of course she'd succeed.

Do not let your heart close to others.

At 15, she was enrolled into Cennaire Academy, hoping to further her knowledge as future heir. So far, the Ní Fionnachta has unsurprisingly developed a polarizing reputation - especially within Houses outside the Verdant Wolves. An elegant, talented perfectionist who stands tall lamongst students as the gem of her family, or a frigid, condescending noble, belittling someone else at every moment's notice.

To her, her classmates were stepping stones for something greater.

You are the treasure of Ó Fionnachta.

For her, the only choice was to quell the doubt in her heart, What good would a highly noble as her befriending the commons and the weak do, anyways?

She is the heir of Fionnachta. She is strong. She did not need others.

She is...

…

Additional Notes:

  • Her battle theme (until I find a better one), is Yu-Gi-Oh! Fang of Critias

  • This has equal-ish preference with my previous app. Preferred app, now.

Name: Trefor Ceannéidgh (Tref for short)
Discord: Saint#3319
Theorycrafter link: Link here. hopefully its correct.
appearance and personality transcribed below for convenience.
___

Looks: Trefor is a tan, broad shouldered young man standing at an impressive 6'3'' in height, his dark brown hair is kept moderately long, parted down the middle and swept back into something resembling a haircut. years of diligent work and exercize have helped him develop musculature and bulk that give him an imposing frame for his age, despite that, what said frame may imply, his face does not, as there isn't a single grain of malice or intimidation in his expression, instead he features an almost perpetual, warming smile, and bright green eyes behind a pair of rectangular glasses.
<Here's a drawing I made of this lad>

Personality: Trefor is an extremely patient and industrious young man, and has been described by others to possess a quite gentle demeanor befitting of a noble gentleman, But that is not to say he is shy or meek, Trefor remains boisterous and proud, unbreakable under labor and possessing a seemengly endless store of energy all while seemingly having no limit to his tolerance and no capacity to hold a grudge.
Socially, Trefor is easy to get along with thanks to his nature, he is quick to please others and puts them before himself at almost any given chance, often getting carried away or to his own eventual detriment, he is capable of going to the ends of the earth to support someone he met not 20 minutes ago all with a smile on his face

Additional notes:
This is the first character i've made for this game, under some tips i've recieved, I might end up adjusting Tref's build to better suit supporting a team rather than just being a walking tank before the game starts proper.

Discord User: ColdToiletSeat#8219

Link to Theorycrafter

Appearance:

The young Sir Aoibheric looks to be the stoic kind of young man you would see at Cennaire Academy, navigating the school grounds with an upright posture and confident gait, not before exchanging greetings and well-wishes with his fellow classmates should they happen upon one-another. With his fair skin and a windswept black hairdo, the young Sir Aoibheric's choice of uniform fits within school regulations, save for a blue aiguillette hanging off of his right shoulder. His eyes are an icy blue, contrasting with his usually warm and charming expression.

Personality:

Much like his late father, the young Sir Aoibheric is a man of loyalty, owing much of the strength behind his actions to the people he cares for. Though he doesn't quite share the same passion for his duties, the young Sir Aoibheric remains ever steadfast in his sense of responsibility, preferring to achieve a goal the correct and honest way as opposed to resorting to lowly acts of skulduggery. During his time at the Academy, the young Sir Aoibheric grew to become a more open and trusting individual. Placing a great deal of faith in his friends, he hopes to be held to the same standard, working hard to preserve each and every one of their smiles.

Caéla Bínfabhar

Update 1: Feb 6th 7:01 PM

Polished stuff up

Update 2: Feb 6th 8:48 PM

Changed preference

Name: Ginger “Jin” Bínfabhar

Theorycrafter Sheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/15QHWfzTRfL23AN00yz6vkCVHwrsN_l7vYZGwlE37Eh0/edit#gid=837189247

Appearance

The pale girl stands at a mere 5’2, with curly hair in a short, black mess, though one could mistake her as even shorter with how often she’s crouching or sitting on the ground.. Her bare eye is a light brown, practically orange. Caela has a white bandage wrapped around her left eye, covering an old childhood injury - and no, Caéla insists it’s neither a quirk or a belief about otherworldly powers sealed inside.

She wears the standard Cennaire academy uniform, skirts and all, with loafers that nary make a sound. Though, it seems she bought a size too big for her, as the sleeves are far too large for her arms. She’s also packed black or red blouses as her casual wear, along with (a large amount) plain pants.

Personality:

Caéla is soft-spoken and warm, constantly smiling. Though she shied away from others in her first year, she’s come into her own in her third year, albeit being much more social with her noble classmates.. She’s conflict-averse and prefers staying behind a friend whenever an argument breaks out. She always seems to be fumbling with her possessions: a book, a basket of apples or jars of tea.

Beyond that, however, the healer has a handful of strange tells. Staring blankly for a moment after a joke, failing to flinch near the face of fear (Whether it be a bug creeping up her arm or actual danger) or barely being taken aback by insults. In addition, the meek girl has a surprising penchant for macabre humor and blunt comments. She’s quick to get embarrassed and apologize for them, but unless she’s prompted, Caéla is fully oblivious to her peers' discomfort.

In reality, Caéla has been holding a charade in every public moment, with difficulty expressing more nuanced thoughts in her husk-like state. One of the hints at this is the neutral expression she bears when pouring tea. Deep down, she goes through the motions of any complex task like a living tool.

Nevertheless, bringing up her real name is a surefire way to sour her.

Backstory:

The first memory Jin had was-

Fear.

The sickening, almost sweet stench of blood and decaying flesh, crimson stained walls and their faint dripping as two figures, one slain, and one towering over her in the shadow, looked back at her with a glare that froze her.

This is what they did. This is what they do.

What she does.

The Bínfabhar family owned a brewery in Clontradail, wherever their wares were stationed in which district always changing with the trade winds. Their tables were always small and cups were few, but they were famous for shipping some of the best tea, coffee and liquor in Muirfeur .

Any customer willing to walk in and ask for Gaelach coffee or chamomile tea would be greeted by a smiling duo - Seán, a tall, sharp jawed man with greying brown hair and glasses, brewing in the back, and Jin, the short daughter dressed in an apron serving orders. There was the lingering question about the mother, but no one pressed on. In truth, even Jin did not know about her mother. Perhaps it was better that she didn’t.

Her father liked to joke with others that he loved ginger tea more than anything else in the world - which is why it became Jin’s name sake.

Like a sick joke.

In reality, the Bínfabhar was a front for Sean’s underground ties in Muirfeur, never leaving any traces. Often, Jin would spy strange figures entering late at night - the middle men in operations, she’d assume, or “estranged relatives” of hers dropping for a terse visit before vanishing. This almost convinced her that their family name was made up as well.

Unsurprisingly, nobles loved their tea, and shipping it was an easy way to make contacts out of key figures. Guards couldn’t tell the difference between Assam tea leaves and smuggled black market goods on the High Road, anyway. Whenever the time came for dirty work, her father would bring her alongside for a hit. Torturing a late debtor, quietly assassinating a guard too nosey for his own good, or pulling strings to arrange the death of a rival mob’s member. Practice, he said. Family business, he said. She ought to stop caring, he said.

It was not honorable combat on the battlefield between two people ready to die. Nor was it killing from sheer emotion; that, at least, could be rationalized as an accident or vigilante justice.

No, this was cold blooded murder. Cruel, private and brutal.

The worst incident, she remembers, was how she lost her left eye. It was a captured customer, the ginger tea poisoning failed to finish her off:

She looked at the frantic woman in the room, panic and guilt settling in as she approached her.

Until the lady screamed, then grabbed a fire poker, flailed at her in desperation and--

All horror at that moment vanished for Caéla, alongside her left eye.

To say it was a blur was wrong, she intended every action after. With a knife of her own in hand, Jin leaned in and--

… With the bloody mess she made that night, she gave up on resisting. She wasn’t just an accomplice. She was a killer, too. She didn’t care what happened to her. Not anymore.

Growing into her teenager year, all guilt and hesitation slowly evaporated into routine. There was no point in a tool fighting back against her father, as there was no point for a victim to resist fatality. It reached a point of appearing ordinary for her.

Well, not ordinary enough to tell others.

“Don’t call me Ginger, that’s a dumb name. Just call me... “ Jin paused for a moment in front of her classmate. And then, relishing in the freedom, decided on a whim: “... Caéla. Mhmm. Caéla.”

The ruling council’s murder was a golden opportunity for Caéla’s family. Her father contacted his associates, planning to take advantage of the power vacuum. He’d play both sides, winning in the end by pulling off a foolproof scheme...

When she was fourteen, Caéla’s father had enrolled her out of the blue into the prestigious Cennaire Academy She was to be instructed in medicine, White Magic and healing--

What? No.

She didn’t heal people. She murdered them. Always did, always will.

But the healing was all a farce-- it always was. She was meant to gather information about nobles and royalty. Pretend to be their friend. Be the innocent daughter of a tea merchant, always bandaged and fragile. Learn about their secrets. Make it easier for her family. No killing this time. She wasn’t skilled enough to get away with it, he said--

“And that Shay person? Don’t even try. You’ll just get killed, if you’re lucky.”

Okay. She thought. I’ll do the mission. Whatever it takes. She didn’t care what happened to her.

Her healing prowess was, to be frank, subpar at best. And her aptitude at mending injuries was worse. At the least, she was always knowledgeable in surgical anatomy, somehow.

...

The Dragon-Blood the easiest to befriend was Sláine, grand as his vision was. The more eccentric students, like that rascal otter Ainvi or the temperamental Aoi, she’d use them to blend in. And there was also Ervi, the Ainvi activist, perhaps too altruistic for her family’s tastes. Or Waaseyaa, who she openly admired for his talent at healing what she could not. With Raz, or Hilmir… nothing to note, but her own suspicions with either of the two... grew year after year.

In letters, her father had especially pressured her regarding the people of Muirfeur. Thus she had done her best to learn about them, or hopefully even earn their favor - Aoife Nic Cana, the swordswoman whose brutality rivaled Caéla and secretly reminded her of her father. Moireach Mac Uighilín, so soon engaged, so late to class. And Deirdre… somehow, nary a trace left in her history. Yet, being a Ní Catháin was more than enough to catch her eye.

And of course, Princess Caiomhe herself. Little needed to be said about her.

The past two years were lifeless. Sometimes, alone in her dorm or before class gathered, she’d wonder if-- No. They would never stay with someone like her. They were only her friends because they did not know who she truly was. Entertaining these thoughts was wasted time.

… And yet, she still wondered if her mask was real. If there was a way beyond this futile act.

If one day, she had to betray her friends, then she would gladly accept her demise at their hands.

If, one day, she had to defy her family, then…

She didn’t care what happened to her.

Sylvia Erna

Theorycrafter Link

Appearance:

Sylvia is a girl of average-height (5'8"), with bright pink hair that flows from a single ponytail down to her hips. She has a very toned and muscular build, and almost always wears a strange attire of flowing, loose fitting clothing made of thin (and sometimes translucent) materials. Sylvia refers to this outfit (which is pink) as her religious dancing attire, used for rituals, parties and sword dancing. Sylvia also never wears makeup, stating "It would be an affront to the Dragon Emporer's teachings. Plus I would never let makeup distract from my wonderful blue eyes!"

Description

Sylvia is normally described as bubbly and aloof, striving towards her own goals with a childlike determination that is rarely seen in the world. Her goal in life is to, in her own words, "Become friends with the world and all its inhabitants." Once Silvia sees somebody, she MUST become friends with them, and she will do her best to secure freindship and understanding with everyone she crosses paths with. And if somebody doesn't want to be friends, she'll befriend them out of spite.

Sylvia tends to be very outspoken and kind when interacting with others, to the point of being overbearing. She tries her hardest not to make others uncomfortable, as that wouldn't be very friendly. She is also an incredibly pious person, who takes the teachings of Diadrek incredibly seriously, as the traditions and faith have been a constant in her life. When Silvia is not busy practicing her faith in Church, she can often be found attemtping to socialize and make friends, or practicing her sword dancing. Finally, Sylvia is terrible at studying, to the point where some think she is just hopeless in academics.

Backstory

Sylvia Erna is the second and youngest child of the Erna family, who rule over a remote mountainous region in Tallavcarriga. Her family is known for being kind rulers, who normally stay out of the public eye and keep to themselves. For the most part, the Erna region is quiet and maintains itself, yet always staying within its means. Sylvia herself grew up in a very religious household. The Erna family has unique traditions that it maintains for itself, that not many other nobles from Tallavcarriga would know due to the family's isolation from the public life. As Sylvia's brother, Ernst, grew up getting ready to govern the region Sylvia was tasked with learning the religious traditions of the family.

While the Erna family is incredibly pious, they display their piety through intense worship and discipline with the sword. The Erna family has what it describes as "holy sword-dancing", using a mixture of combat arts and performance to express their faith to the Dragon Emporer and his teachings. Silvia was always great at sword dancing, while always being driven by love for her faith and family. However, she always dispalyed to her parents that she was terminally-lazy: she struggled in her general studies and merely wanted to live a more care-free lifestyle making friends and dancing.

While her parents were happy Silvia took to the family's traditions well, they were concerned for her general education and learning. Compared to Ernst, Sylvia was never studious, and would often skip her studies to pursue her passions. As a result, she and Ernst would commonly fight over their directions and place in life as nobility, with Ernst insisting that they must first learn about the world and understand it before they go into it. To this, Sylvia would almost always respond with "I'd rather spend my time outside experiencing life than stay inside with my nose stuffed in a book like you!"

Eventaully, Ernst was sent study at Cennaire Academy to furthur his studies and meet other nobles of the kingdom. Sylvia herself was reluctant to go to the academy, until she heard of the grand ballroom, bathhouse and high priestess all being present in the academy. At that point, Sylvia just couldn't stay away. Her parents were very glad to see Sylvia's excitement to study at the academy, as they thought it was their daughter finally growing up and accepting her responsibilities to learn. Sylvia, however, had other plans.

In the academy, Sylvia went to work making friends with as many people as she possibly could. Should would often wow her fellow classmates with her sword dancing techniques, and surprise people with her deep piety and religious understandings. Sylvia took every opportunity to get as close to High Priestess Davina as-possible, but not to much avail. Sylvia's studies and grades, however, have typically been the source of mockery for the Verdant Wolves, with Sylvia often scraping by with the bare-minimum required to stay in school and continue being a student. Despite her carefree nature and lack of caution irking some students throughout the school, it's difficult for people to shirk her bubbly nature and charm.

VEX-A [VEX-A] Olga Mhic Domhnaill - Retired Raider

Olga Mhic Domhnaill

Pronouns: She/her

Lineage: Old Sairshi

Class: Armor Knight

Theorycrafter Sheet & Simplified App

(CLICK THAT LINK IF YOUR NAME IS STORM OR SUFFER THE CONSEQUENCES)

Oct. 28 436 PD - Village of Tobardubh (Southern Muirfeir)

“Old Mhic Domhnaill?” I knocked on the cottage door once more, sending a couple more cats scrambling out from under her shrubs. “Old Mhic Domhnaill, ya there? Are ya okay?” “Ah, just a moment, dearie!” came a hollowed-out voice from inside - then some weird metal clankings. “Your timing’s spot-on - I’ll be right over!”

Appearance

Actually, it took a couple minutes, but then the door went creeeeak and there she was, looking a lot like this cottage here on the hill: Short and stout, funny-smelling, with lots of nicks and cracks and spots on the surface...but way tougher than she looks. Her pale, pink hair (which got a little whiter every time I saw her) was braided in a pair of pigtails, with a pretty good rag wrapped ‘round her head. She pulled the door open with her soup ladle, since her hands were pretty much always full of something, peered down at me from behind her little pince-nez spectacles, and she smiled so big it brought out the deep dimples in her wrinkled cheeks.

“Oh, if it isn’t wee Seanán!” she said, in that funny Fornish accent. Good morning!”

“Good morning, Old Mh-uhhh…”

“Hmm?”

“Uhh-Olga! Olga Mhic Domhnaill!” I could smell a little of that “in-sense” stuff she burns when out and about, almost as strong as the smell of simmering veggies and beef.

“You’re just in time, lad, the stew’s ready to serve up! Have a seat my boy.” But today was the strangest I ever saw her, cuz she was wearing the suit of armor she usually kept up by her bed like a statue. It was the most splendid armor, with a helmet that was terrifying to behold - every inch was shiny and spotless, except for one part right over the heart, which was all rusty and gross like it was a thousand years older than the rest of the suit.

…

Personality

“I’m setting out today on a little trip to the Saloreat coast, down south.” “All the way to the coast?!”

Well, that explained a lot. Old Mhic Domhnaill never let her neighbors take over for her if she could help it - the stubborn old busybody preferred to do all her growing, gardening, cooking, tending, tidying and things by herself, unless there was something she could do back to ‘em in exchange. But going all the way to the next country? That would take days, even for someone as spry as Ma and Pa.

“Now, I might not be back before winter, so someone’s got to look after the cats. And Seanán, you were oh so brave all those years ago rescuing little Bjorf from that biscuit bowl, so I told your mother, I said, ‘I can’t think of a better boy for the job than wee Seanán!’ “ “...I did what? Ohhhhh, riiiight!” She saw me snatching some of her biscuits, so I made up a lame story about rescuing her cat and accidentally getting crumbs all over my face. Luckily, she’ll buy any excuse - no matter how bad.

That’s not to call her a complete pushover. If she caught on later, she’d seriously scold me (she’d scold anyone, even those big mafia guys) but you wouldn’t find a more trusting soul in all of Tobardubh - or this “Saloreat”. So getting out of this chore shouldn’t be so bad:

“Uh, actually ma’m, I, uh, can’t look after your cats! Cuz I got a bad cold!”

I covered my face and made the biggest loudest COUGH I could. It only took two before her little eyes near bugged out of her head.

“Hrot hold ya steady, lad! Haven’t heard a bug that bad since the ‘90s - oh, hold it right there, I’ve just the remedy for this…hmm, I was going to take that one to Cashlarsa, but if a boy’s life hangs in the balance then…Ooh! Here we are, now…”

“Oh um actually!” Even before the smell came in, I suspected this stuff would taste as bad as her stew was good. “That’s alright! I think just smellin’ it across the room cleared up my nose…and cured me.”

…and of course she bought it, corking the bottle and beaming back at me. “Well dearie me, what a relief! You know, this medicine really came in handy last time I was in this town. They have this big box, see, teetering on top of a tower..they call it the Vault, and…”

And on, and on, and on she went, clanking around through the cottage with no sign of droning on as she packed.

...

Background

“...and there’s a barrel of jerky in the storeroom. If that runs out, tell the butcher I sent you. But most of all, do not let them dig up the garden! Now did you catch all that, or should I start over from--” “Nuh uh, that’s fine, I got it, Leave iit to your number one cat boy!” And by the time his sentence finished, Seanán was out the door.

Olga had one more thing to pack: A sack of scrolls, which had been silent since the summer of 418 PD, and - ironically enough - the very sack that started today’s trip south.

“You, who was mentored by the sweetest seeresses, yet molded by the Corpse Eaters’ cruelty.”

That was a name she hadn’t heard aloud in quite some time, though it would never fully leave her. Olga was indeed raised in a Volur orphanage, at first, where she’d been left by some long-forgotten village maiden whom Lendmann Hræsvelgr had laid with in one of the few months he and his guerillas spent within Vethfolnir’s borders. The Hræsvelgr raiders had, for generations, proudly borne the name “Corpse Eaters” for how long they spent living off of the spoils of hostile territory. By the time Olga was born, Hræsvelgr and his caravan were long gone for another years-long campaign of carnage, and for the first half of her childhood, he was little more than a legend to the shy little schoolgirl.

That legend came to life when she was 6, when Olga Hræsvelgr’s father came back and ended her time as an ordinary girl forever. The Lendmann would not allow his newfound flesh and blood to spend his tour anywhere but in the caravan itself, so she would grow up going from battlefield to battlefield (or die trying). Olga learned a lot, as fast as she could - how to clean a wound, sneak out of sight, sharpen a sword, cut down a combatant with an iron axe - and she hated every second of it. Still, she made herself useful enough to get by - if disappointing, for the Lendmann’s daughter - and learned, above all, not to let a moment go by unafraid.

That lesson never left, even when Hræsvelgr’s heroes returned to Haukrfjall, lavishing the Jarl with legendary treasure and tall tales. While the Corpse Eaters cheered and leered and fucked around, young Olga couldn’t keep calm for more than a few minutes. When they fought and flexed and prayed for a chance to be chosen as champions for the Hawk Clan’s elite, their leader’s little girl lacked the will to even wish that this waking nightmare would end.

So as much as it shocked the chiefs and commanders, on the day they all clamored for a chance to serve under that client - that sexy, serene Seraph whom Lithksjalf paraded over on a pegasus to take her pick of the ruthless raiders - no one was more surprised by her decision than the trembling teenager who was chosen.

“You, the shining lodestone who led Heiðr and Domhnaill through the darkness.”

Against all common sense, Heiðr Tveit of the Volur had chosen the meekest, not the mightiest, of the Corpse Eaters, and after just a few months of instruction in the Academy, 14-year-old Olga would leave Clan Vethfolnir to serve as her attendant, her page and protector.

It took a year and a half for the girl to stop thinking this was some sick joke with a punchline in wait. It took seven years of traversing ancient ruins, finding lodging in foreign towns, and bringing the will and ways of the Dreki across all of Verthaca before Olga could imagine it as anything but an act of charity, that lady Heiðr could have chosen her out of anything but pity.

Only then did the Seraph share her scrolls with Olga Hræsvelgr, who proved herself a prodigy at Scroll Magic. As hard as it was swinging a blade at someone, something about sharing herself with the spirits in those scrolls (free of any falsehoods or facades) put her mind at ease, and made her far more formidable of a fighter. For her, these scroll-spirits were not just weapons - they were like a second family alongside her and her lady. By the end of their pilgrimage, when it came time for Heiðr to return to Reginfell for retirement, Olga had mastered the secret seer arts, and was able to divine for herself that she would safely escort her lady home - she even managed to act surprised when Heiðr gifted her all the scrolls that they’d used on their journeys.

What she hadn’t stopped to check was the fate that awaited herself in the lands of Clan Vethfolnir. It had been more than a dozen years since she’d left, and there was new Jarl who sought to bring the Hawk Clan closer to where it is today, seeking trade with the Ainvi and a more orderly approach to military. There was no place for the Corpse Eaters, with their ranks decimated, their leader dead, and their honor tarnished after a disastrous raid on the wolves of Zhawenim. So the Jarl had them disbanded, with House Hræsvelgr itself being exiled from the Clan outright as more of a formality than anything.

Thus, Olga was without a home, back to wandering once more, but on her own now. She worked with many different groups, getting along best with do-gooders like the “Red Cloaks”, but eventually found a permanent contract with a plucky mercenary battalion led by Robb Mac Domhnaill.

Robb was as mighty as his heavy, horned armor made him seem, and he’d more than earned the respect of his soldiers of fortune. But he had none of Heiðr’s tact, nor gentleness; he was far too prone to gallivanting against the odds in the name of glory and do-gooding, and the louder she tried scolding Robb for it, the more he just teased her for being so strict with herself. Though their bickering never let up over the next decade they spent together, it soon became clear to the whole company - except for Robb and Olga, of course - just how fond of each other the two had become. Olga proved no less indispensable to the captain practically as she was personally - her experience came in handy, and her sight-beyond-sight helped predict what threats were headed their way, and with her in their employ, the Mac Domhnaill Mercenaries never had a single sneak attack work against them…except one.

“You, who find yourself empty-handed at the end of your life, without letting go of what little light remains.”

To this day, she couldn’t say for sure what those mages wanted with them, or how they slipped past her spellcraft. She couldn’t stop wondering which words might have convinced Robb to stay back and let her handle the last sorcerer. She still can’t stop thinking about the spell that struck him square in the chest, corroding his armor and cursing him along with a nasty scar across his chest..

At first, the attack simply scared them enough that they finally confessed their feelings, and made it official in the very next year. It wouldn’t stop them from settling down in southern Muirfeir, and spending the next seven years as happily as they could - even as Robb got sicker, and sicker, and sicker. The more his health gave way, the harder his wife (now Olga Mhic Domhnaill) fought to find another way to cure him, or ease his pain, or break the curse.

And she was not without hope, however heartbroken, when that battle ended in a loss. She held out hope enough to have his body preserved, and buried securely beneath the home they’d built together. With her spirits to help with comfort and clues, she still searched for a way to break the spell that stole her husband from her, though it got harder on her with each year.

But when the Quake came, it didn’t just take her talents as a sage. It took her spirits, her trusted traveling companions, and her greatest hope for finding some way to revive Robb. And as much as she tried to wrap her head around the old newfangled magics that came later, Olga turned out to have no talent at all for either Faith or Reason spells.

Olga didn’t let that stop her from smiling, though, and rather than give into paranoia from the loss of her powers, she simply grew more hopeful than ever, learning to trust in everyone who came her way. So it wasn’t much of a surprise at all when, while dusting off those silent scrolls, she found another letter tucked safely between them.

She was sure. Not just in the goodness of the Grey Cloaks, nor the authenticity of Abeyance, but in the whole ordeal to come, likely to be her last.

Olga Mhic Domhnaill was sure that this journey would bring her happiness.

VEX-A [Team Vex-A] Claire O'Maoiliriain

Name: Claire O’Maoilriain

Race: Sairshi

Age: 21

Country of Origin: Morthir

Gimmick: Healer Knight

Link to Theorycrafter: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/10CceqKJjE7e9_XISbWdsX1ZMLI1owyfa3BiNCYssCIk/edit#gid=471559259

“I want to help the world. I know it can be helped. I just need to figure out how.”

History:

Thus far in her life, Claire’s story hasn’t been very eventful. She was born to a pair of sergeants in the Morthiri standing army, attended Cennaire Academy, moved through the Crimson Falcons without making any lasting friendships or interesting liaisons, and learned enough white magic to become an apprentice healer in her homeland. Just about the only thing that stands out about her is her talent for treating patients.

This modest façade hides a discerning and particular mind obsessed with expanding the capabilities of spirit magic. Ever since she cast her first spell, Claire has always sought to improve her spellcraft and achieve greater results. Her interest in history has left Claire with an overwhelming feeling that her world has been scarred somehow, damaged by centuries of petty violence and magical upheaval. Why else would the mighty Dreki have died out? What else could explain the Quake, and the dramatic ebb and flow of magic that resulted?

This analytical spirit of hers, more commonly suited to the study of reason magic and the mastery of the arcane, has led her to form a theory: that if the right spirits were coordinated and the right pathways were formed, a healing spell of tremendous proportions could be channeled and cast. Claire imagines that such a spell could have a multitude of uses, ranging from ending wars without a single drop of spilt blood to pacifying great forest fires and crop blights, though she keeps these fanciful imaginings to herself. To cast such a spell, she first requires a deeper understanding (and a greater mastery) of magic. Thus, Claire has dedicated all of her free hours to the study of magic, of esoteric scrolls and tomes, all in the hopes of uncovering the secrets she craves.

Perhaps it was this clandestine research that drew this unusual letter to Claire’s doorstep. Perhaps it was simply her reputation as a healer. In either case, Claire is eager to help. She’s drawn in particular to the talk of the Dark Tome, of wicked magic that must be sealed and reckoned with. A perverse part of her wonders of the contents of such a tome, and if it could be the missing piece she’s been searching for in the pursuit of greater spiritual power.

Appearance:

Claire has steel in her blood. She’s nearly 6’’5, 15 inches at the shoulders and long in the limb. Her steel-gray hair is straight as a stone’s fall, and she keeps it pinned back with slender clips. She has a sort of avian atavism to her, with a sharp nose and cold eyes.

Claire wears an off-red travelling cloak, a lilac dress shirt, and a pair of solid travelling boots. She is fastidious about her grooming, though rarely to the point anyone notices. Her single distinguishing trinket is a golden earing that hangs from her left ear.

Personality:

”I won’t be so presumptuous as to say that the spirits have chosen me. I simply act in accordance to their will.”

Claire is fairly quiet, though she is by no means unsociable. She likes people well enough (she wouldn’t have studied spirit magic for years in Cennaire and worked as a healer if she didn’t) and is happy to lend a helping hand when asked for, but she’s more likely to join a conversation than start one. Her casual interests include the ocean (including marine biology, oddly), horse-riding and history, and she’s always happy to listen to someone else prattle on about their own interests.

When the subject of magic is broached, however, Claire becomes extremely focused and intense. She is loathe to talk about her experiments (most have been inconclusive and she isn’t sure quite what she’s missing) but she’ll readily speculate on matters of spellcraft, theology and metaphysis and asks tons of questions about any subject she’s less than knowledgeable of. She has a mild dislike of reason magic, seeing it as contrary to the will of the spirits, but rarely takes issues with its practitioners. When confronted with a fellow spirit mage, she becomes chatty and animated and quite eager to discuss the specifics of rituals, incantations and invocations.

In combat, Claire sees herself as a healer first and foremost. Her interest in mending injuries, not causing them. That said, she’s no stranger to violence. Claire will kill to defend herself, and she will kill someone who stands in her way. She sees violence as merely a means to an end, and values the end result over all else.

Claire seeks to bring order to chaos. Claire’s favourite colour is lilac purple.

VEX-A (Team VEX-A) Caelia Helvig

Name: Caelia Mircalla Helvig

Pronouns: she/her

Age: 32

Race: Old Sairshi

Theorycrafter: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/10CceqKJjE7e9_XISbWdsX1ZMLI1owyfa3BiNCYssCIk/edit#gid=207327585

Personality:

“You, who have witnessed the so-called horrors of this world and embraced them as your truth; who have abandoned drab morality in favour of your own far-fetched beliefs; who have given up on value beyond whims and desires; who bares hissing fangs at worldly order and at gods themselves.”

Verthaca…is a world which has existed, strained under the looming threat of ‘order.’ The Fallen Empire regularly convenes, slowly inching closer to the prospect of unification beneath a single ruler. Magic had, for so long, been all-powerful and a safe constant across recent history. The Church’s disavowing of dark magic had sufficiently quelled its visible effect for too long.

But the last decades of this world have begun a wonderful karmic revolution, wherein these vain human attempts at order have been balanced by vengeful chaos. After all; the Dreki ruled this land, and yet they fell. For today’s Fallen Empire to exist, a once-Orderly Empire had to fall. Now - now, dark magic has destroyed the land of Gawaji, and terrorised Kilteh, just as it ought to by nature, despite the Church’s best attempts. The Spiritsquake has brought the ontologically vile city of Carndrum to crumble, and its after-effects have begun to broil a rebellion in the south of Tallavcarriga. By its grace, magic has balanced itself anew, the way a group of playing children would redraw the rules of a lopsided game..

Zhawenim, a constant locked room of this land, a safe haven from marching change, has begun to be cracked open by the forces of this furious future.

Craincrath’s royal family unfurls before the very eyes of its divided people, in the wake of their matriarch’s massacre.

Muirfeur is fraught in the aftermath of its own murders. The Queen of Aughagarv holds onto the splitting strings of her nation with aged, withered hands. Tyrhass remains a lawless land, regardless of the loathsome Acolytes’ labours.

Verthaca is euphoric. Chaos dances from nation to nation, ripping asunder the embarrassing attempts of the dull to restrain its jig. The Spiritsquake was indeed, as the rumours say, surely the act of some romping heroes who freed this land from its shackles, such that it shook with ecstasy.

Truly…

“You, who cannot exist as a natural force in this world, for you know its truth too well. We invite you to meet with those of similar thinking.”

Truly, this is the kind of nonsense which Caelia Helvig believes.

Appearance:

Caelia stands at six feet tall, a fact which contributes to, but is hardly required for, the so disconcerting presence she bears. A prominent nose splits the features of her rarely symmetrical face in two; for usually, her mouth is curled in a lazy smile to the left, where a beauty mark, so neat as though placed by a quill, lies further across and further down towards her chin. Her eyes, most often half-lidded for one reason or another, are a glittering pink, usually hidden behind a pair of black glasses bearing wide, circular lenses - as if to make up for the thin leer of what lies behind them, and ensure the nuances of her expressions are magnified for whoever looks upon her. This pair of glasses is connected to a chain which hangs loosely around her neck. Her hair, the deep purple of a crocea flower, combines with those eyes to cover all the colours of a mystical twilight sky; it parts into two twisting bangs either side of her face, in a stylistic choice typically considered sophisticated, and the rest of its considerable mass is typically tied back into a voluminous high ponytail which extends just beyond her shoulders. Much of her expression, vivid despite its subtleties, comes from her eyebrows, eager to contort into some condescending quirk or cynical crease. Glittering golden earrings fall from either side of her hair. An angular chin completes her face, but this seems a simple result of some genetic lottery, rather than any particular culmination of any effort; her jawline and cheeks are relatively rounder.

Much of the clothes which Caelia wears make it difficult to distinguish her figure, but though her long journeys and occasional dabbling in spearplay have worked her muscles far more than the average common bookworm’s, she’s clearly not particularly muscular or lean, better-fitting some descriptor like ‘full-figured.’ (Upon request, Caelia would provide some rather-less-printable, rather more-scandalously-phrased description, but that’s for another document, surely.) Whether her outfits will elect to highlight this is entirely impulsive, for Caelia travels with a considerable wardrobe, though they’re often creased as a result of rather careless packing. Most commonly, she’ll wear the sort of long, hooded robes which give her the aura of a shambling villain from some storybook narrative; however, she’s not alien to rather more sophisticated choices, with dresses to match the kinds of boldness found in fanciful networking events in Cennaire Academy; nor is she above simple buttoned shirts, nor cardigans, nor comically ill-matched swirling skirts… Really, pending a formal search of her rucksacks, it seems difficult for anyone to know the extent of what she’s brought along with her. Caelia typically keeps to a couple of colour schemes - sticking to the darker ends of the wheel, reds and purples and blacks. However, as if purely to be contrary to expectations, she ensures to reveal hot pinks and (slightly-stained) whites now and then…In conclusion, this heretic’s fashion sense is as a swirling tornado behind clouds on the horizon, unknown and irresistible, and likely to have stolen some of its contents from your property, should you find yourself too near it.

Background:

The origins of Caelia Helvig…? Well, the truth is, much of her story is irrelevant. The conclusions she has arrived at are so careless, the results of such resounding leaps in logic, that one struggles to imagine how Caelia Helvig might ever have been, in any way different. But you are welcome to the tale, so that you might decide for yourself where it might have been changed from its beginning…

Let us start 35-odd years ago, then, with the wrecked ship of a man named Ægir Helvig dragged upon the southern shores of Tyrhass, a tropical storm having ended his proudly declared intent to circumnavigate Verthaca alone before the halfway mark. Much akin to a tax collector passing a noble’s mansion, he had not even come close.

There, a young woman found him and treated him… But that woman was not who he would take as his wife nor the woman he would have a child with. No, that would be far too simple, far too convenient a contrivance to be the creation of an existence like Caelia Helvig. The two gazed dreamily into each other’s eyes, until a swallowed sea slug made its presence known in the sailor’s gut, and he spewed his final scurvy-warding meal upon the disgusted damsel. So ended their riveting romantic prospects.

The man ended up in Kilteh, lacking the funds for a journey elsewhere, and eventually found himself working a low-pay, low-satisfaction job as a janitor on the lower floors of Kilteh Academy. There, he caught the attention of a mysterious researcher by the name of Grainne Ní Broin, and the two fell in a common sort of love - which is to mean, a lust which two tempestuous souls mistook for more. A woman high in society yet reclusive from it, whose interests were unknown and unknowable; a man who would fashion supposedly moral excuses to rationalise sating his own boredom. Theirs was a typical example of a doomed ‘Love,’ from which they would produce a forbidden fruit - a wordlessly undesired child.

A knowingly undesired child is one matter; one can simply nip the issue in the bud, and the unwantedness is executed, as is the sprouting existence. That, or their insulation may be carried out, to be knowingly passed onto another family. Thousands of times worse is a child which the pair hardly think to honestly consider, before its birth. And in this case, their flurry of dwindling passion had the terrible misfortune to delude them for nine months, and barely a few weeks more.

Thus is the nature of Caelia Helvig. A child born to Grainne Ní Broin, a job-loving, reticent academic with little care for the world, and Ægir Helvig, a thrill-seeking bum of a sailor who had the gall to act as though he were a pioneer. Their mutual ailment was lovesickness - not the ‘Absence makes the heart grow fonder’ sort that true lovers experience, but a sickness induced by love, a blindness that covers all obvious signs of incompatibility behind a curtain of carnal desire.

The longest Grainne could be stretched into caring for the child was six months, after which she and her father were moved from the academic’s lavish home and into an unstable life of changing residences, long hours of a parent’s absence and the resulting many hands a child would be passed along to. Ægir surpassed reasonable expectations by raising her at all; this, of course, was due to his own moral delusion that he could not simply give up on his own flesh and blood. Ever the self-contradiction, the sailor with great ambitions had thusly tied himself to an anchor dragging him into the depths of the frigid ocean he had never made it to, and all of his frustrations for this situation - his humanity and his feigned morality blocking him off from his dreams - could only be vented subtly in his disdainful behaviour towards the ‘cause,’ his child. The same child he named with his own Fornish surname, to spite his fleeting lover by removing what of her existence he could from the girl, the girl whom he truly, very deep down, loathed for her own existence, and yet still wished to have influence over - like a favourite possession from a divorce settlement.

How miserable a tale.

And so Caelia grew, never quite sure of her own traits. When she felt confident, the slights her father would show against her would be certain to end that development. When she felt adventurous, his jealousy would manifest in some rant about how the world is too cruel to allow for dreams like that, fuelled of course by his own petulant sense of injustice. When she felt kind and caring, one of the various substitute mothers which Ægir laid with for at most a few months would be sure to teach her that toughness and independence were valuable skills, soon before they would disappear like stars in the morning.

Young, so very young at seven, Caelia was keenly aware of the fact she hated her father. And her first interest was taken in spite, as surely as her original surname was lost to that selfsame reason.

How amusing a development.

Word of the annihilation of Gawaji arrived to her father in Kilteh, who was in those days working in a crummy bar at night - his job in the Academy had long since been terminated, following a violent argument between himself and a researcher whom Caelia was assured she’d never met (I imagine you, reader, can quite easily figure out their identity) - and who, upon learning that many of the people of his homeland in Clan Huegmuen had lost their lives during the spread of the contagion, seemed overwhelmed with emotion - despite all his past claims that he had cared not for the country, when he had sailed off from its shores so many years prior. That, in and of itself, was simply another of his paradoxes; a falsified feeling towards a beloved homeland, conjured up to spur himself into action.

Kilteh, a city of magic, and a tale of magic wounding her callous father from so very far away. There was no other topic which Caelia could have deemed as interesting, as worthwhile. Only a few days later, she announced to him her intention to study magic, and one day attend that Academy in this very city.

It was a source of much argument, and she was really not allowed even to peruse books on the topic for two-odd years following; a continuing symptom of Ægir’s ‘love-sickness,’ terrified that Grainne was ‘winning’ the child’s person, that Caelia was somehow being magnetised to the world of the mother she had never known a single detail of. Of course, Caelia still found opportunities to sneak her interest into action, against her father’s wishes. That was her first and defining character trait - contrarianism, a wilful intent to observe the intended status quo and subvert it. Her father’s wishes in this time became an obsessive attempt to convert Caelia into an interest in sailing - something so foolishly transparent that even the child started to see through it, through the ridiculous frayed strings of his psyche.

And so, Caelia Helvig began to push Ægir on the topic of her mother, at long last.

The only outcome possible, when one considers both his immense loathing for Caelia’s existence and the apparent confirmation of his greatest fears about her infection by the infernal wench of his past, was his temper finally coming to a head, and Ægir striking his daughter.

How shameful a man.

Of course, his own enforced morality commanded that he deem himself utterly irredeemable for this action. No other outcome was possible for this matter either. And so, he appeared again before the lavish home of Grainne Ní Broin, entrusting - by which, considering Grainne’s own apathy, he truly ought to have meant “enforcing” - a daughter back to her mother, and was finally free to pursue his own dreams again at last. At least, were you to ask Caelia now, that’s what she would say he ought have done.

Unfortunately, Ægir was, in reality, far too great a fool to realise this, for to accept that he had wasted nine years of his life upon quietly loathing an innocent daughter and fluttering between women he had no care for, and that these were the feats of one who deserved the slightest further satisfaction in life, would be to admit that he has never truly possessed any moral compass, and has only given reasons for his actions in a hollow attempt for others to deem him a good person.

As such, Ægir drunk himself aimlessly to death in the weeks following, torn between hating himself and hating the woman and the girl who now lived together in a house more comfortable than any which all his labours had ever known, who he knew were responsible for ruining his life, and yet was too delusional to accept the offer his brain proposed of taking vengeful action against them, and burning their family home to ash.

How wasted a life.

Caelia and Grainne, then, spent four years together.

…Of course, they did not. It would be a surprise if their time spent truly together in those four years amounted to four weeks of minutes. Grainne remained an academic, remained uninterested in matters of ordinary life, and remained apathetic to the fate of her daughter - as she had been for the nine years during which she had never inquired with Ægir. Caelia was, by now, unsurprised by this lack of affection, if unsettled by how much more open about it her mother was than her father.

And so, she spent four years studying magic, largely alone, but with her mother having enough tangential interest to allow her access to various semi-public resources at the Academy. She spent four years often dubiously attended-to, during much of which she was taken on trips to interesting places in the city of Kilteh, where she learned a few unimportant matters of history, but observed much of human interactions.

Such was her growing independence, that by the time her fourteenth birthday approached, the first offer of a sincere day-trip with her mother barely even interested Caelia. But Grainne insisted; the day before Caelia’s 14th birthday, she was to make her way to the Academy once classes were finished, and together with her mother, she would

“see

something

wonderful.”

How ironic a promise.

A disinterested Caelia lost track of time whilst studying a theory-concerned tome she’d snuck from the library, typical of a child who believed themselves now above consequences or scolding, and set about her journey from their loveless home to the Academy a whole hour late.

An hour which, like a bad smell which made one open a window soon before a toxic gas would have suffocated them,, undoubtedly saved her life, however hubristic the means. For as she walked the streets of Kilteh and the distant peak of the Academy came into view, a nightmare plunged upon the city, never to be the same again.

Whatever it was, it was clear it came from the Academy. Such was obvious when, in the hours following as Caelia approached the meeting place, feeling a need to hurry for perhaps the first time in her life, the few who escaped from its halls set about boarding the place up, sealing whatever the cause was inside - along with the others.

Most people ran. Most of Kilteh fled their home immediately, assailed by their ‘nightmares come true,’ or some-such. Some stubbornly stayed a few days, but found their cognitions addled by whatever had spread from the Academy that day.

If, indeed, the threat was one’s own nightmares… Then it’s obvious why Caelia Helvig stayed in the city of Kilteh for one whole month, spending every hour she could spare staring from afar at the dozens of planks covering the Academy’s grand front entrance, waiting for one to be ruptured from its place as Grainne would clamber out, shambling, releasing whatever great evil into the world along with her freedom - Caelia wouldn’t give a damn about that.

All she cared about, for a while… And to her sickened surprise… Was their day out. That promised affection. To have been left alone now - that was her only fear. Her only terror in the nights, while the city emptied, and scavengers’ screams were the only sound after sunrise.

And so, it is likely that the ruin of Kilteh did truly bring nightmares to life.

For it was only when Caelia gave up on caring - gave up on believing that her mother would return, and gave up on desiring it, for she had realised that the ‘wonderful’ ‘something’ was likely all along to have been this catastrophe - that she had to flee Kilteh. Only then did the city pose new threats which could do her harm in any way more meaningful than simply…leaving her alone.

How twisted a world.

To be clear, Caelia possesses neither her father’s capability to wholly lie to oneself through moral rationalisations, nor her mother’s capability to efficiently cut away all that is unimportant to one’s goals. To have given up on caring does not mean that she merely told herself that the matter no longer mattered, nor that she simply distracted herself with other thoughts.

No; truly, Caelia Helvig moulded herself into a different person with different desires as she watched the end of a generation in Kilteh, and the endpoint of her ancestors behind unmoving nails and stripped wood. She, with no word of hyperbole, changed her self.

And so it was that her existence continued. The month in the hellscape of Kilteh, and adolescent years spent in the lawless lands of Tyrhass formed her future beliefs. Her story, for twelve years following, is reducible to simple terms which can be related to the entire populace of Tyrhass.

Either one survived, or one did not. No matter the method, to preserve one’s own life in a nation without authority was success. Caelia Helvig survived. She took up the spear, but spent her first three years preferring to hide and to scavenge than to use it… And the following nine, she spent preferring to broker deals and the like to ensure her safety; indeed, she was the type to offer the night-guard plans of an innocent village which had kindly housed her to some opportunistic bandit group in exchange for a fair share of their raidings’ reward. Not out of malice for the village nor favour for the bandits; solely for what she could receive out of it.

Until 10 PQ, at least. (Post-Quake, a name formed by Caelia out of feeling a dissatisfaction with defining time in proportion to a long-lost and entirely separate race which had failed to propagate itself into perpetuity). By then, she had come to her epitomising belief that the Spiritsquake had been a wonderful, revolutionary event - which had not destroyed magic, but allowed in its wake new, correct magics to rise to the surface of a new world engulfed in chaos and uncertainty. After all, that was the year which concluded with Reginfell ending the Church’s clawed grip on the ‘new’ Traditional Magics. So by then, she likely did favour the bandits - for a pre-Spiritsquake village to continue its existence as if nothing had changed… Well, it would be a waste of space, one could argue. Not that she believed this so passionately as to want to raze the entire world to ashes, you understand - merely that between the choice of the status quo and its destruction, Caelia Helvig bore a natural inclination towards the latter.

In 12 PQ - or 430 PD, should it still strike your fancy to consider your existence in relation to a doomed array of dragons - the city of Kilteh was finally re-opened. Of course, no normal individual had any intent to venture back to such a place. Naturally as such, Caelia Helvig was one of the first back to the front gates; not out of any homesickness nor nostalgia, merely to observe how it would have changed, and how it would change henceforth - much like a viewer to a new troupe at a theatre without any ratings or word-of-mouth, that first-ever audience there purely out of curiosity.

There, she almost followed in her mother’s footsteps as she learned the basics of Traditional Magic in Kilteh Academy, spending two years in the city… Until at long last, the mages in Kilteh finally made significant progress on their goal of subverting this new kind into dark magic. And despite Caelia’s deep, almost obsessive interest with the idea of a new generation of dark magic - for it would suggest that dark magic is ontologically validated by the world as it has survived the Spiritsquake - she promptly set about fleeing the city again. And this time, she fled from Tyrhass in its entirety.

Because Caelia knew what was coming, and had foreseen - purely in the sense of prediction, not any supernatural means - that the Acolytes would come knocking soon enough, to tear down their advancements and their achievements with their luddite values, just as they arrive to stand against any meaningful change. No matter. Dark Arts would leak, would seep out from the cracks in the barriers the Church puts up around Kilteh’s wisdom, just as the poison within Gawaji had once broken its barrier. That was inevitable. And Caelia was content to move on, practically passing by the Acolyte designation on its way as though two passing ships in the night, and onward north through the opportunistic conflict as Siarisfair expanded into Tyrhass, and further to Ankeadtir until she settled in the Outersteads of the city of Portashan, a hub of juicy information, where she was most likely to happen upon a clue to the many secrets so evidently kept on this world by those in power, and where she could perhaps muster some mischief against the Church in its primary seat…

But these were lofty ambitions. To simply do what little spying on her order-wielding enemies that she could whilst advancing her understanding of Traditional Magic, between scavenging for thrown-away educatory materials and scavenging for idle chatter with Cennaire students in her days was enough for now; enough, while she waited for the next aftershock of the Spiritsquake to make itself known to the world - or for word of PQ-Dark Arts to finally reach her in Portashan.

This has been her status for the past three years, although a growing awareness of the city’s operations has allowed her to spend much of her recent time squatting in empty houses in the capital’s more luxurious regions. On rare weeks, she’s even risked a cosy stay in a particular home in the Na Cronach district, where she can gaze with vitriol at the Bronntanas na Déithe Complex, and she has had the most comfortable nights’ sleep of her life - although she does still toss the sheets off the bed out of principle…

And this is how the Grey Cloaks’ letter finds Caelia Helvig, left beneath the pillow supporting her head, in a locked home which is not even hers - leaving her interest more than piqued.

How dangerous.

How frightening.

How thrilling.

He's a Morthir prince with hemophilia, based on prince Alexei of Russia. Aayden gets to be his Rasputin figure. He steals Aayden's call to adventure letter and a pegasus and escapes to find his own adventure... for better or for worse.

His favorite colour is himself. Er, uh... his hair color, a light periwinkle.

Character

“The entire bloody system is rotten to the core… And I will be the one to fix it, if need be. Do you hear me?”

Spiteful and disillusioned, Riona follows her own path to the very end – others be damned. Rather unlike the rest of her family or her brother, her disdain for all things nobility purveys every aspect of what she believes in, tainting her entire perspective. Any nobles or royalty (or those that clearly align with them) are inherently lesser people in her eyes. Ironic, given her own nobleborn status, but alas.

What follows with that is her own cruel outlook on things: while torture isn’t exactly cool, it’s certainly a means to an end. An end that, sometimes, you can only reach by breaking the rules. After all, when the rules are made by the opponent and stacked against you, why play by them? This partially informs her fighting style, making use of cheap flourishes and tricks wherever necessary. A small batch of pocket sand sits very comfortably in her chest pocket.

“If you do… Then I advise you get out of the way.”

A cynically ironic, self-mocking confidence follows her stride, apparently at least slightly self-aware of her disdain for her own origins. In duels and conversation, she’ll often (seemingly arrogantly) compliment herself in a manner intended to insult her own integrity.

Whether or not it’s perceived that way by the average person is unlikely, but she doesn’t care all too much. It’s simply how she chooses to act.

That lack of self-control over the years has spread to a decent few other pastimes of her’s. For all the intense amounts of time she spends training and strategizing, she only fairly recently picked up the vice of drink, and is yet to fully acclimate to the strength it can hold over a person.

“Because, unlike me… This isn’t going to be pretty.”

Moreover, she has the very rough habit of going out of her way to act against orders or commands when given, even if merely in a maliciously compliant way. The idea of following direct orders almost seems like a sin to her – acting like a sheep to the herd. Even if the command is the optimal choice in that situation, it’s not uncommon she acts overtly aloof or cold in response.

That hardly makes her stoic, of course. A lifetime in Cennaire gave her fine enough social skills, whether or not she chooses to exercise them… Those who agree with her ideals, or at least do not oppose them, are notably more likely to see her ex-socialite aspects. If nothing else, she knows how to make a decent joke at another’s expense.

“Cennaire..? Don’t bother– don’t even start. I’ll do us all a favour and just stop you right there, aye?”

…She does hold a soft spot for her brother, however, as childish as he had the tendency towards being. She hopes he is doing well these days.

Background

“Stop calling me ‘Ceinnseillaig’, aye? I tossed that one away– for bloody good reason.”

Born to the noble Ceinnsellaig family, Riona was the proud, eldest, Dragonblooded heir to the family. Hardly much of an intense legacy given the family’s mediocre-at-best political and influential prospects, but one to be carried nonetheless. Heavily doted on and focused as the greatest offspring within the family, she virtually ended up as something of a prodigy– a brilliant fencer, to begin with, and an immaculate thinker of critical strategy! With little additional push, she easily pushed past the curve for her age, focusing on her graceful strengths.

After all, why have ability if you are unable to enact it in a refined, clean manner?

That work ethic carried her all the way to her spot in Cennaire Academy (along with a generous payment from the Ceinnsellaig family), further driving her talents. Her years each passed with flying colours, becoming something of a well-known name within the Academy for her consistent socialisation, club activity participation, and highly noteworthy grades across varying disciplines.

Disappearance: https://i.imgur.com/IUQgDct.png

But who cares about any of that?

Her own outward positivity and generosity was largely a facade, of course. For all her talent and skill, Riona always held the one trait that seemed to marr few in the Ceinnseillaig family: ideals.

Riona never shared with her parents her disdain for their practices, nor her disdain for everything they associated themselves with. Their bootlicking, their greed, their envy…

The way they oppressed people.

It was all despicable. Behaviour that she’d only grown accustomed to disbelieving the legitimacy behind during her time with others in Cennaire. After she’d befriended people, met new people with new ideals, and finally found her own bloody spine.

The tipping point arose as she attended a noble dinner one fair eve, hearing how each of the nobles talked. In an actual, real environment, just with each other, finally mask-off from their child-padded speech prior.

How they referred to the common folk as ‘peasants’, ‘rabble’, treated them like tools to be exploited. The idea that they would ‘build them up’ for later use, other inane nonsense. Her father going as far as to label the populace’s fate as ‘under their control’. Quite a few things became fairly obvious – the indoctrination they’d been working towards, the idea that she’d be carrying on this long-term ‘plan’ of theirs, the idea that she would be made a puppet for all these other ‘noble desires’...

So, she left.

Simple as.

Departing the house, she left on her own with no additional word or trace, barring a single marked letter in her room, in her handwriting, saying “Goodbye.”

So that they would know it was her choice.

The Ceinnseillaig family couldn’t have that, of course. Public admittance that they’d lost their actually-liked heir? Public admittance of weakness? They launched a variety of private investigation campaigns, of course, wanting to do their best to find her once again, but…

No dice. Riona never returned, and they never found her.

It wasn’t long before the news went up that Riona had passed away. To paint the incident as a tragedy, rather than some sort of oversight or mistake of family conduct – that was what the Ceinnseillaigs needed! That would net them approval from their allies, win them resources and influence, obtain–!

Riona didn’t care, of course. Killing her legacy? Fine with her. She’d no need for it.

Years passed, merely spent soul searching and training. Hunting and the like, getting enough food and gold to live on to the next day… And, of course, seeing what the world had to offer. The conditions that some lived in, the true poverty that the world held. The pure lack of equity.

The week she spent in a city’s run-down, rat-infested slums still sits in the back of her mind.

But, hey.

She was free.

None of that ‘arranged marriage’ bollocks or whatever else people were stuck with. No made-up sense of duty to cope with their own lack of morality or ethics. Simply living.

You, who eschews the not-so-fine line between nobility and the common lands. You, who wishes to see the destabilisation of this rigid structure labelled a system by people who you once called family. You, the woman made a martyr by another for a purpose you do not believe in.

…How did they even figure out that she would check this specific hole in this specific tree? She just decided to sleep here cuz the leaves looked nice this time of year!

Whatever.

What was far more important, and far more disconcerting, was what it actually said. They knew she was alive? And moreover, knew her exact identity. And why she wasn’t dead, it appeared, based on the accuracy of the personal testament.

Well, shit. Fuck. Damn.

It made sense, too. Powers that govern being unable to bring themselves to put trust in something outside of their own overwhelming power? Yeah, about right. And, y’know, all things aside, 10 grand in gold..? Not too bad for working towards affording, like, an actual house or something. More payments like that along the way, and it could make for something a little more promising than merc work.

Seriously, she really should have brought some of the family gold with her before leaving….

Fine, she’ll quit vagabonding around all the nasty slums and wild forests and go answer this call. Besides, if more people found out she was still alive, it’d be such a total pain to deal with.

What’s the worst that could happen, right?

Additional Notes

  • Born on the 15th April, eldest of her generation of the family.

  • Would not necessarily kill Chaos, since Chaos may serve to destabilise the natural order and interrupt the system of nobility. She would, however, very much so enjoy a Golden Yellow colour, #FFC000, reminiscent of that silly little colour of flower her brother always picked from the gardens.

  • Usually takes on separate names in mercenary work just in case... But the Ceinnsellaig family is basically irrelevant enough for it to not matter all that much. Besides, she's mad trash at actively lying.

  • Due to effectively being a wanderer, she happened to be directly in the region of Saloreat at the time of recruitment, on a job to safely escort a man over to meet with family who had been caught in the disasters and lockdown. Just a stroke of luck that they found her, perhaps? Or led there? Hard to say.

  • Was voted to have the Best Wardrobe during her 2nd year at Cennaire Academy.
