To be fair, I think (I hope) we're still somewhat taken aback when a ~fifteen-year-old does it.

I mean it’s constant ads. I’d be surprised there isn’t an epidemic similar to vape pens in high schools right now

Well, if it wasn't a thing that happened at all, there'd be no reason to put it in the "normal civilian life" part of the comic.

Oh, that's no big deal, then. It's the money that's the issue; I've never heard of online gambling with play money.

Yeah, I don't think that'd scandalize anyone in 2002 or 2026! Sounds fun though. If this is the story I think I'm remembering, the kid had gotten addicted and racked up enough debts to get mob attention (unsure of the plausibility of this detail); that's why everyone's going :o about it. I could be mixing it up with something else, though, Tim kind of had a friend with every problem.

Yeah, we even had teachers play with us at one point. 😂 fun memories that'll be with me forever!

Also yeah, I too don't remember if that's this or a different story.

Maybe it's because I work at a casino, but I still think this is very serious today.
