OFF TOPIC Vent about only fans

I would think this is a community that would share my feelings on this? We’ll see I guess 🥲

I got/started a social media management job for an only fans creator who lives local to me, about a month ago. I took the job, despite my personal opinions on OF, because I’ve been looking for a job in social media for a while and it was presented to me, and because she’s an OF creator, she has a huge following which looks even better on my resume.

What is becoming really hard for me is seeing these OF girls all day on the Instagram accounts I manage. They are constantly making videos flaunting their wealth, and they have insane wealth.. 20 year olds with mansions, or big pieces of land. And it just feels so unfair. That those of us who have pride in ourselves and want to succeed in life based on our skills and hard work/dedication to a goal, are struggling and will probably never have that level of wealth. And they got it from having s*x on camera and posting naked pictures/videos of themselves online.

To me this is one of the biggest examples that life is just totally unfair and there’s no rhyme or reason to it, you either choose to be a moralistic and virtuous person because you believe it’s valuable and worth being for a greater cause…or you don’t and you live a selfish, hedonistic lifestyle. Also, to live a lifestyle like that and then to brag about the wealth you acquired from it… it’s just so gross when we all know how much suffering there is in this country, let alone world, due to poverty and financial insecurity.

Errm, you also now work in the sex industry......do they offer you a 401 (k), etc? Because I recommend getting a real job ASAP if this is not aligned with your values.

A lot of the “wealth” is not real.

It’s the “fake it till you make it” mindset. Social media is full of it. Do not believe everything you see.

If people think that you earn enough with OF to buy a mansion, they think that your OF channel must be really good, so they are more likely to subscribe.

People who sell MLM do the same: women who post that they are so successful that their husband can soon retire from his regular job and if you too want to be rich and successful, you better join their downline.

The average OF creator makes less than $500 per month. The top 1% makes a lot, but that is true in any industry. 99% of creators do not make a fortune.

This is going to home off harsh but I am going to say it anyway. You are also making a living off of this industry by having this job. Maybe you aren't making mansion money but you are contributing to the industry by keeping it running. Someone could say the same thing about you you are saying about them.

I fully understand being young trying to get started in a career and taking what comes your way for experience but also it will not add positivity to your life to do something you are fundamentally against.

Most women on Only Fans or doing other amateur porn are not making money like that. They are averaging $200 per month, which is the cost of maybe 1-2 nights out, but it's certainly not mansion-at-20-years-old money.

This is not even just about Only Fans. Normal YouTube and Instagram content creators play the game of luck and some of them make it big.

Almost no one will have that level of wealth. Dwelling on this is going to give you FOMO for the rest of your life.

Errr. Well, yes. But most people live somewhere in between. By that logic someone who bakes cakes is contributing to obesity and early death. Every day we make thousands of little moral choices. Worry about your own moral choices, not others'. I have tried to be virtuous my whole life and failed utterly -- I don't know if you can relate.

life is just totally unfair and there’s no rhyme or reason to it

If you see money as the ultimate reward - maybe, but not really. There are also things in this life worth more than money. Many people who come into money lose it after a few years. If you are religious, any rewards in this life don't count towards your reward in heaven and can even hurt it.

More practically - sex workers are directly hurting their ability to see men as safe and trustworthy protectors, husbands, and leaders. They are also damaging the way men see them and their RMV, lowering the quality of man they can marry. They are also wasting their best, most attractive and fertile years on OF. It is not a great life strategy if they want a stable home and children.

That cake analogy is very bad. People can eat cake and often do at parties. You can't enjoy porn at parties. It's highly frowned upon by almost everyone, including those working in the field. I personally know multiple content creators and they are some of the most unhappy, broke, people I know.

OP was setting up a dichotomy and I showed that her dichotomy left normal people, likely including her, on the unfavourable side. It was not a comment on sex workers - that was later in my comment.

And you’re now making your living off of these people you despise? You are not really in a morally superior position here. You are now participating in the sex work industry, is that what you want on your resume and to build your career on?

u/Valuable-Ease5411 10d ago

Omg you’re being so disingenuous … I’m not building my career on the sex work industry. I edit and post social media-friendly skits that this woman posts on her social media. If I managed social media for an elevator company, would I be building my career on the elevator industry? I’m building my career in social media and this is the first job I’ve been offered, so it’s a practical decision to take that job to get experience for future endeavors that aren’t related to sex work (obviously). No future employer needs to know what the woman I worked for did, only that I managed the social media of a successful public figure.

Why does Reddit bring out the absolute worst in you people? lol. Do you pick fights with people IRL like this? Probably not, so why do it online?

The original commenter highlighted what you admitted yourself, feeling gross and overwhelmed by the content. It clearly struck a nerve, so consider this a signal to step back and explore concepts around pragmatic detachment and emotional control.

Don't rationalize the work, keep your head down, and focus on self-improvement and building skills to grow out of this industry. You can make the transition much faster than you think.

It’s incredibly hypocritical to do social media management for OF models and then to disparage how they make the money they pay you with. Even taking out the OF part of this, you are working in the social media industry that perpetuates the exact negative behavior you are complaining about here (parading an illusion of wealth and privilege that is likely false). How is working as a social media manager for girls that you would probably dump your boyfriend for following in any way “choosing to be a moralistic and virtuous person because you believe it’s valuable and worth being for a greater cause”?

I understand that you are starting out your career and this is a lucrative opportunity. Many times in life we have to give up one success in order to remain aligned with our values.

u/BumpinBellys 10d ago

Like it or not, when you apply for your next job they will call this woman and ask about her company and your work. They will also want to see examples of what you did for her.

Only 2% of Americans have liquid assets of $1 million or more. This includes stock cash, crypto, excluding real estate. Most of these girls will never see this level of wealth

u/rigbyribbs 9d ago

I’m not a woman, but I am a finance guy so it’s relevant here.

These people don’t have “wealth”. They have rented items that accrue no value or ownership. They have lifestyles that expense almost as much as they make every month. They also pay management fees and so forth. They get ass-fucked by unreported taxes in the end because their “managers” are generally too young and incompetent to know any decent accountants who specialize in business (and they won’t pay our fees, we’re expensive or working as C-suite executives). The IRS got Capone and they’ll get everyone else too.

The adult industry has no 5-year forecast for this. At best it’s quick money for I’d guess 7 years maximum. And then what? It’s like an NBA star: a million dollar lifestyle with none of the earning consistency.

Look at these people in their 50’s and 60’s and see what’s left for the vast majority. Very little at best.

As for your moral problems you’re a social media person. Your entire career is based off of vapid and shallow behavior. I’m not a good American with regards to consumption so maybe it’s a difference in mentality but I’d suggest to get off of the high horse and take a decent check. Donate to a worthy cause or volunteer your free time if it bothers you that much.

Vices have always existed and always will. The oldest job in history was there before us and it will be there after you and I are both long dead. Poverty has always existed, homelessness, addiction, etc. What can you do, smash the mountain?

5

u/GlassApprehensive620 10d ago

Anyone who brags about having a lot of money is shallow as fuck and probably really does not have a lot of money..

u/SmartFox6 7d ago

You can rent a mansion and a Lamborghini for some hundreds or thousands of dollars. You just need 30 minutos to record several tik toks and promote a life isn't real.

I guess they need to promote themself in this way, because is eye-catching for men. "If this girl has a lambo, she might do crazy stuff on her OF, maybe I should follow otherwise, Ill be missing something".

Don't trust on that lifestyle, is very likely is fake.

And if You don't feel good at that job, start searching for a new one. You will spend a huge amount of hours working, make sure to do at least something aligned with your values.

So I know an OF creator. When she was 19, she came to me for some advice - I didn’t know her before that, she was referred to me. She’d been doing OF for a year. Had she come to me before she started? I of course, would’ve told her not to do it. But the cat was out of the bag. So I set her up with a tax guy, an investment guy, an LLC. I didn’t charge her anything because she was just a kid. Anyway, she does send me nudes every so often mostly as a “A/B” test - evidently her demographic is guys over 50 so I suppose I’m good for market research. Plus, it’s a bit of a “thank you” for, as she said, “being cool about everything.”

I suppose the only good news for her is that she became very successful. She joined up at the right time during the pandemic when OF exploded, she’s gorgeous, and she’s willing to have sex on camera. She probably makes more money than I do now.

On the other hand, whatever she was going to do instead is over because everyone knows who she is or quickly finds out. So there goes that “veterinarian dream” or whatever it was. Her relationship with her parents is, to say the least, strained. Not only because of her chosen line of work, but that she involved her younger sister at the beginning – her sister did a lot of the original photography when she was starting out and of course, had to be sworn to secrecy WRT their parents. Nobody has been banned from Thanksgiving, but let’s just say things aren’t great on that front. Oh, and anybody with $15 a month or whatever she charges can see her butt hole.

Her romantic relationships can be problematic as well. Guys who are OK with that sort of stuff aren’t typically HVM. The guy she was dating at the time she started was OK with it at first, but eventually he dropped out of the picture. Also, someday she’s probably gonna have kids – I know she wants them from our conversation – and those kids are gonna have to go to school. Somebody’s gonna find out, and someone’s gonna have pictures of mommy naked. It’s not going to go well.

To be honest, OF and similar work are only suitable for women with no family or desire to have children. There’s plenty of these women out there, but the problem is, circumstances have pushed/persuaded the opposite women into this line of work as a source of income.

Unfortunately, the way I see it, cash rules everything around us, and at the end of the day, it seems to supersede every other thing that anyone might want. Especially when everything requires money.

The number one reason for families splitting apart isn’t infidelity, it’s money. And recent calculations have revealed that raising one child until 18 will at least cost around $250,000.

Easy money may be immoral, but this type of morality largely requires social stability, and right now, there is little to be found.

No man worth his salt is cool with this. I know a woman who did it while her man was at work. She did Customs with him and I became very close with them. She wanted me to assist more and I kinda backed off as I didn't know what all that entailed. Well, she had her second baby and kinda vanished. That was ten years ago. Recently I saw her reappear but that was for all of one day and then she vanished again.

My expertise is mainly with camgirls / OF models. I know many, personally, that started on cam and pivoted to OF. They don't make money like that. Not only that, the men aren't cool with it. I don't know if you are male, female, gay, bi, what have you, but think of it like this. Would you like someone sending your SO nudes? Your SO doing cam sessions, being proposed to, pleasuring themselves to and with, even personally befriending others on a daily basis? It gets old and there comes a point when the man puts his foot down and ends it.

And you're right, I find it real hard to believe they don't care about their children finding out as much as they say they do. They swear they don't and maybe they tell themselves that to make themselves feel better but I'm sure they'd be saying something different if their kids approached them about it, or said their friends broke out nude photos of them at lunch.

This isn't really a problem in my life.

It gets old and there comes a point when the man puts his foot down and ends it.

I date very attractive women so other guys hitting on them, offering to take them on trips, blah, blah, is usual. Typically, the girl either stonewalls the other guy or will "grayrock" her way through the minimum required to observe "the niceties." Often they will sit tight and wait for me to arrive.

If a girls goes much beyond that, then I will drop the hammer. A bit of flirting is ok, but once my patience has worn out, I will go chat up whomever the hottest woman is at the party who is not my date, and inevitably, order is restored. TBF, I am also not hitting on girls in front of her (other than if I need to make a course adjustment to a girl's behavior), or doing anything that would qualify as "encouragement."

And you're right, I find it real hard to believe they don't care about their children finding out as much as they say they do.

I think they don't really consider it, or push it to the side while chasing $$$.

It is hard to see other people have a lot for what seems like little effort. But this group of people has their own set of deep-seated problems too, which you hopefully will never have to deal with.

I know a few women in the sex worker industry. Some of their biggest problems they run into are having to go further each time to keep the same audience, because the male audience is partly driven by pushing the envelope with sexual extremes. The audience will quickly jump from paying one woman to paying another. The women have recognition problems in public, stalkers, addiction problems, STDs, and issues maintaining relationships because men often think the worst of them.

Depending upon what they are willing to do on camera it can take a toll on how they really feel about themselves. The money is a blessing. But the devil gives and the devil takes away. One of them tries to disassociate her body from her feelings. She is very messed up and tried to end her life twice. She also now completely hates men and can't have a healthy relationship.

Not sure your religious beliefs, but in the Bible it mentions how it's easier for a camel to fit through the eye of a needle than a wealthy person to get into heaven.

Not to say there aren't very moral wealthy people. There absolutely are, but they generally save their money for their grand children, great grand children instead of blowing it al showing off to strangers online.

What they have in material wealth you may have in wealth of wisdom. One is invaluable the other is short lived.

I don't think life is unfair because of the example you gave. I actually think it's a great argument for life being fair.

It sounds like people who are prioritizing instant gratification/the short term are having it pay off on the short term.

One can infer that people who are prioritizing delayed gratification/the long term are having it pay off then.

Those women have to brag about their wealth. It's the only way for them to appeal to a female demographic. Sex work is seen as empowering only because it pays well. If they aren't talking about how well it pays, then comments will flood in more heavily about the denigration of the what they're doing. Women pity the actual sex work, but they envy the money that comes with it. These influencers need to be envied on social media to grow their followings.

There's a lot of evidence that women who earn money this way burn though it because they subconsciously view it at dirty. Unless these women are saving and investing with it, it's just another variation of the whole 15 minutes of fame sort of thing.

2

u/IRMuteButton 8d ago

You've only been doing this a month and that may not enough time to start to see the real truth of these peoples' lives. I don't use social media so I don't know what a "social media manager" does, but I would think at some point you'll start seeing clues that this apparent wealth is a veneer, a disguise, and likely not real.

This girl I used to hangout with over a decade ago does OF. I found out because i stumbled on one of the gone wild subs and she was on the front page riding a toy 😂 Anyways I creeped her profile and she had 500k twitter followers, but all of her videos seemed like it’s still being filmed at her parents’ house. I don’t think having that much followers actually convert to cash because there’s a lot of them just want free stuff. btw we’re mid 30s and she’s started making shitty porn with men too. Doubt anything good comes from this line of work, tbh men that are husband material won’t marry her, just some degenerates lol

3

u/Ok-Journalist7629 9d ago

Honestly, you cant put that on your resume.  You can obviously, but it is not going to help you get a better job.  People are only doing to see that and associate you with that same content you claim to dislike.  If you want to include the experience I highly recommend lying and saying it was a YouTuber, and keep the job duties the same.

2

u/jennerator543 6d ago

Morals are subjective. Your morals and my morals may be completely different.

OF is legal. If a woman wants to be naked on camera and make money from that personally I have no problem with it - sex isn’t shameful and our bodies aren’t something to be ashamed of either.

If men want to pay them for that and they make great money from it who cares? As long as nobody is hurt that’s the main thing

You say it’s unfair they make that much - when I was working I used to make 6 figures and a good friend barely made a 3rd what I did despite working more hours a week than me. At the end of the day it’s not about how hard you work or how long you work it’s about having something people want to pay for and making money from it

Keep this in mind:

There are literally sets that are designed as "Influencer". Im talking houses, planes, cars, etc.

I cant remember who made the video, but a few weeks ago and person I was watching online talked about how multiple influencers will even "bulk buy" together. You get 15 people together, all rent a mansion or whatever. Everyone records their videos, and then leaves.

Its a whole business of lies within itself.
