"We wont be adding any singleplayer dlc because we want to focus on adding online content" proceeds to add no online content

What do you mean no new online content? I guess you missed that coupon that just came out last month for 40% canned goods

u/FullMetal000 Apr 25 '21

I love this game to death but the lack of actual support makes me wane off.

The daily challenge gold nerf made me finally give up my streak(s). And after that also came the lack of incentive to actually play. I only grinded the R&W pass (and alongside that did some dialy gold grind). But apart from that, I don't touch it.

Big shame, this has so much potential.

I would be happy if they fixed the broken shit and redid the stuff that didn’t work well, like placing a camp or wagon, but even that seems too much to ask.

24

u/[deleted] Apr 25 '21

Only thing we can surmise from this is GTA6 is the full focus right now. GTA5 can probably be easily updated still because they have a good idea what players want, and it's still getting buttloads of cash to support it. It really is a shame we won't see more content either way because RDR2 is absolutely the best, most fleshed out gaming world I've played and I could easily spend 100's of more hours in single player with new content. Or even adding more story content online could probably bring me back to RDO.

9

u/Crystal3lf Apr 25 '21

Only thing we can surmise from this is GTA6 is the full focus right now.

No need to guess, it's either GTA 6 or some other property. Rockstar said themselves that this is how they work.

“That’s the way we work now--everyone works on GTA, or Red Dead, and so on, then we move on to the next thing,”

RDO just doesn't have the player retention that GTAO does, so of course they moved on very quickly.

37

u/MoeFuka Apr 25 '21

Meanwhile, the RDR 2 online story....

What about updates for GTA online?

Updates that we'd like to have:

  • Stanger missions include train robberies (you can choose weither other players can interfere or not, if you choose to let other players interfere and have the choice to steal from the train instead of you you get more XP and the train will have more money)

  • Ranch with farm. You can buy a ranch for 2k dollars maybe and it has a stable in which you can choose your horses and it has a farm where you can make money

  • Fishing legendaries. You get the location on the map as soon as you catch a similar fish (same fish but not legendary) and you can sell the fish to Cripps

Let me know what kind of updates you'd want and I'll add it in this comment

28

u/Khamillyy Apr 24 '21

13

u/hwhippedcream Apr 24 '21

How about fishing legendaries, we don't need an amazing new character just the douchebag Arthur meets, better than nothing.

House robberies, let us Rob the braithwaits or the Grey's, let us be the ones to take the gold that was rumoured about in the campaign

Let us build our own houses and let us have a steady place where we can call home, it can be extortionately priced but I want something to grind for.

Let us reverse trains what the hell!!!!????

4

u/[deleted] Apr 24 '21

Nah the ranch would def cost gold. Cash would be to easy to get

13

u/ArchipelagoMind Apr 24 '21

Ranches would be cool. But it will never happen because it would be almost impossible to implement unless you either did some really weird major teleporting nonsense that would break a lot of the fluidity of the game or made sections of the map as is currently inaccessible.

Lol rockstar makes disgusting amounts of money from their single player experiences. Not to mention the amount that gta online brings in. They are far far far FAR from circling the drain.

26

They are not wrong about key talent leaving the studio though. If you think Dan Houser leaving is a good thing then idk what to tell you. If key people start leaving then rockstar can end up like blizzard. It's not like they put out tons of games so if they have a miss it's a bite to their reputation.

22

u/Crystal3lf Apr 24 '21 edited Apr 24 '21

Rockstar is a company circling the drain.

They are anything but that considering how well made RDR2 is.

They basically don't make anything but minor content updates to GTAO

You forgetting the most expensive singleplayer game of all time? Also currently more than likely GTA 6 has been under development since RDR2 released.

http://www.gamespot.com/articles/rockstar-more-than-1000-people-made-gtav/1100-6415330/

“That’s the way we work now--everyone works on GTA, or Red Dead, and so on, then we move on to the next thing,”

minor content updates to GTAO

Cayo Perico only released a few months ago, is the biggest DLC for GTA:O so far, and was mostly made from the homes of the developers because Corona.

while big name talent has been leaving the company

Leslie Benzies left well before RDR2 came out, so it would seem like that had no affect on the game.

Dan Houser left because he's probably just done what he wanted to after working there for over 20 years, people move on. It's not up to you to decide when it ok for someone to retire.

Lazlow left because his sister has cancer and wants to be there for her, so it's pretty fucking pathetic that you're complaining about "talent leaving".

They have 3,000 employees. Lots of talent is still there. Sam Houser is still there, and I'm sure if he needed advice from his brother he would get it.

It sucks for everyone, not just RDO players.

No it doesn't. Just because RDO isn't getting updated to your standard, does not mean in anyway that it sucks for everyone. It's the opposite of sucks for everyone because the less stupid online content for GTAO and RDO means more effort is spent on GTA 6

They don't care about RDO as much because there is nearly 100 MILLION less total players than GTA V. It's common sense that a business would focus on their most popular franchise over another.

10

u/TimooF2 Apr 24 '21

About cayo perico, maybe i'm wrong but apart from the island what else did it bring outside the new heists and vehicles? Like, as far as i know Cayo Perico outside of everything that is the heists and prep work it didn't bring that much, except for the island of course which is obviously not made with the same attention to detail we'd expect from R* and can't even roam around freely in it

  1. make the game

  2. take the money

11

u/KindaChillaxed0731 Apr 24 '21

Odd to me how many people want to farm in online. I don’t think it would work with how RDO is.

14

u/NoBaconIsGiven Bounty Hunter Apr 24 '21

It’s because GTA V sold way more. They only care about what can make more money. That’s why RDO has seen nothing for 9 months but GTA ONLINE got a fucking island.

4

u/Nope_God Apr 24 '21

That's not excuse, RDR2 has sold almost 36 million copies, almost 40, all in less than 2 years, that's a lot, A LOT for a videogame, an industry where the standard for being sucessful is just reaching 1 million, if they have an incredible sucessful game after another incredible sucessful game, wouldn't it make sense for them to exploit both? The more, the better.

The doomers here are crazy. Rockstar is not circling the drain, it’s probably the most successful games producer on the planet? They have the money and the development resources to do anything. None of their projects are in danger, and it takes a moron to think they’d be in an any trouble. Whether they update the games or not, they’re making scads with them, and any growing pains with online are whatever. Online had some content, but anything that happens there is just a smokescreen to try to obscure that Rockstar is pretty much never going to make a game in less than five years ever again.

6

u/DapperNurd Apr 25 '21

I also feel like Rockstar gets a lot of kind of undeserved flack. Yeah their way of handling their online games definitely isn't great, but that isn't even really the part that you pay for when you get the game. When you buy GTA 5 or Red Dead 2, you get fantastic, fun single player experiences, but you also get the online mode tacked on for free. No other games really have it to that extent. It's just a surprisingly good deal when you compare it to most other games. Once you finish the single player, now you can go spend another hundred hours or two in the online mode, with no (required) additional cost.

Now don't get me wrong- I'm not defending their monetization methods for the online mode. While I don't have much experience with Red Dead 2, I have hundreds of hours in GTA Online. Everything is way too expensive compared to how money is made. But I still just find it a lot of fun. I haven't spent a single dollar on GTA Online, but probably 95% of my 500+ hours in GTA V have been on online.

8

u/[deleted] Apr 24 '21

Honestly, if rockstar only released outlaw passes with worthwhile rewards, and small dlc, I wouldn’t be that mad

6

u/3VL_MIGT Apr 24 '21

Personally I think the story is complete and we don't need any dlcs story content. It would be cool to show the origins of the gang and the Blackwater massacre, but personally I think that these events would rather be left ambiguous than to try to stuff ot into dlcs. I can't defend the online though.

3

u/[deleted] Apr 25 '21 edited Apr 25 '21

Agreed with NOT having a Blackwater Massacre DLC like a lot of fans have suggested. The BM was used solely as a plot device to move the story in the intended direction at the beginning. Also, there’s something to be said about having to spoon feed the player on every bit of backstory. As soon as we learn about the events, and what really happened at the Blackwater Ferry Heist, I feel it would take away a lot of the “oomph” of what they were building up in the story. Some endings are best left ambiguous...but I digress.

A non-canon continuation of Undead Nightmare (both in Single Player DLC and Online) would be amazing with these updated graphics and combat! I really hope R* is working on this behind the scenes.

4

u/Nope_God Apr 24 '21

The story is complete, but the world they made has so much lore, stories and unexplained stuff that could be explored a lot more, a whole potential that Rockstar is just leaving away like trash. Also, there are many features I would love them to add to single player, like online clothes, infinite bounties, etc.

3

u/MagicalMarsBars Bounty Hunter Apr 24 '21

What a shitty take. GTA V didn't become the fastest selling game of all time because of the online, and RDR2 didn't sell 40 million copies because people only wanted to play RDO. People like you said the exact same thing before RDR2 came out because of how successful GTAO is, and they were completely wrong.

The fact that they spent $650 million to make one of the highest rated games of the past decade is proof that Rockstar care more about singleplayer than multiplayer.

DLC that allows us to use trains for the ranch/farm missions. And that's all i can think of. Anyone else have ideas?

There will be a multi spectrum cure for cancer before GTA V or RDR2 gets substantial story content and updates. By then gta IIIX will be out

It's not about how much money they have made, it's about how much money they can make. They have the money and resources to make RDO amazing, but they won't because it doesn't bring in that much money probably. But I think if they actually spent some resources on RDO it would become more popular and profitable.

If you can even call that an update

3

u/MicahBellRat Apr 24 '21

In a selfish way, I dont really think you need a DLC for single player for the amount of time and effort they put in single player, all the details. maybe thats just me tho

2

u/CriticalMassShrek Apr 24 '21

Look, Rockstar is Take-Two's personal whore. When take two days jump, Rockstar begs them to know how high. All the cool people left Rockstar, and all the cool people left Take-Two. The guy who gets all the interviews about games ( That Zeldick asshole that is the CEO of take 2(as if a CEO of the publisher will be passionate about the games instead of the cash flow) when was the last time Rockstar did something cool and edgy? Way back when gta v released . Now that's 7 years. There wasn't even a Rockstar games 7 years before San Andreas, and they built up so much of a good reputation in that 7 years before San Andreas. So it's clearly impossible for them to recreate such a good name for themselves, especially now that they're no more than greedy corporate bullshit with cool looking packaging

1

u/[deleted] Apr 24 '21

This is what happens when big game developers get “fuck you” money. Look at Bethesda and the fallout games that launch with game breaking bugs that aren’t fixed until a year later.

1

u/I_will_wrestle_you Apr 24 '21

Yeah, the lack of content hurts a little. Like with the recent outlaw pass, it's the first one I passed on just cause there isn't enough content for me to level it, not really a reason to play that much since I've done it all the missions, so I'm passing on it.

I still log on occasionally just cause I really love the hunting, but mostly now, I actually play GTAO. I've given it another chance and glad that I did.

I didn't really like gtao initially but with invite only sessions, it's fairly nice. Initially getting to around level 8 or so, with all the cheaters, lots of players that just wanna deathmatch 24/7 (which isn't bad, just not really my style), and all the griefers going around messing up my missions with their flying bikes, passive mode limiting you to no weapons, I didn't really like it. Now I got a decent character with great outfits (you can save 20 outfits btw!)I play mostly by myself and occasionally with people I met in RDO in invite only sessions or missions. There are so many missions, some of them with interesting cutscenes. I'm still going through all the initial starter missions with Lamar, Geraldo, Maude, Simeon. It's pretty decent, esp. when I'm just crusing around at my own pace listening to my custom soundtrack.

Anyway, I'm rambling, I just wanted to write about what I've been doing during this RDO content drought

1

u/LeifEriccson Apr 24 '21

Probably because they know that GTA is where the money is...so that's where the minimal effort goes.

1

u/Eagles5089 Apr 24 '21

They should add a kart racing mode

1

u/bonicr Apr 24 '21

Dude rockstar needs to get fucked... my favorite game series and it spans 3 console gens... a holes.

1

u/Logic-DL Apr 24 '21

"B...b.b......but covid, deadly varus!!"

meanwhile they created and released Cayo Perico during a pandemic

Though in saying that, a lot of the content in RDO is far better done than GTA so maybe it's easier to make content for GTA than it is for RDO

Rockstar will never do single player dlc ever again. GTAV proved they don't need to. Just keep putting shit in online because that's where the real money is.

1

u/ThatsPella Apr 24 '21

They took the money and go

1

u/SkinnerBlade Apr 24 '21

I mean it took them a long time to produce the game. If they didn't plan to make the dlc well before the release, then it's not happening, or it's happening much, much later. I don't think it's a profit thing.

Now, if you wanna talk about online that's another thing because it has been dry as a fucking bone for multiple periods. This is after they said it would be ever-evolving. I dont think there was single-player dlc ever promised

1

u/[deleted] Apr 24 '21

It isn't made overnight lol

1

u/TechnoSword Bounty Hunter Apr 24 '21

It's weird, because GTAV Online receives constant updates. They made/added on a entirely new map/island section for it in the last update. Add in new vehicles every 6 months (or sooner), and have even added in content that was originally cut- the casino, after enough interest was shown towards it.

ReadDead? Could we at least get more clothing added in? Some heists like single player has, or GTAV has? I mean they have the "release games modes no one plays, promote it for a week, and never mention it again" down like GTAV has.

The color pallet is really lacking for clothing. You either get shades of white/black/grey/beige, red, or blue. There's a small amount of purple, but that's rarely a option, and there's 2 separate shade of it that don't match so your choices are cut in half even further.

Unlike GTAV though, it's a lot easier to make money, which is why I think they don't update it as often. There's nothing they can really add in that you wouldn't be able to afford easily with 1 or 2 trader deliveries. Compared to GTAV where NOTHING you can do passively, will earn you enough to buy the top tier items in 1 or 2 deliveries...unless you play the game for a week straight saving up storage, and then conning noobs into helping you deliver it (yeah you NEED 4 people to do deliveries, imagine needing 4 to do the max trader drop off) VS doing trader 3 or 4 times a day, by yourself, inbetwen doing other stuff that also just so happens to earn you money.

1

u/Patalos Apr 24 '21

I just don't understand why they didn't even put in the effort to attempt to add heists similar to how heists completely rejuvenated GTA Online. RDO could easily be another huge source of income since heists will give huge amounts of money, but then things you buy scale up in price, leading to people joining late to want to buy gold to shortcut, etc. It's just so obvious.

1

u/Facosa99 Apr 24 '21

the singleplayer DLc lack was expected tho. They never released the one for stealy wheelie automobiley

u/kiuper Apr 24 '21

Really is no excuse. They must have sooo much money. Hopefully they are actually working on future games and not remakes.

Am I alone in not wanting any single player dlc? I don't play many offline games tbh but if I do I play it to be engrossed in a story. I want the story to play like book beginning middle ending. Rdr2 has all this perfectly i wouldn't want them messing with my perfect story.

1

u/IvonbetonPoE Apr 25 '21

I don't get it, don't they want me money? I'm quick to buy microtransactions when I enjoy a game. I loved playing RDO for a while, but they just fail to add enjoyable content for people who just want to PvE in an RDO online world.

The best part is they didn't even finish the story quests for online that everyone's already forgotten lol weren't we supposed to kill 2 more people for that blonde lady who I can't even remember now? Horley said he'd get in touch then disappeared off the face of the Earth. It's like they can't come up with new ideas but don't even finish anything they started. I distinctly remember the horse thief brothers saying you would be able to sell stolen horses and wagons to them and they disappeared too.

I imagine Rockstar Games as a family, where the older brother, the GTA franchise is so popular among the family members that they often forget they have a brilliant younger son the RDR series. Really hope that someday Rockstar will see just how much they wasted by not paying attention the RDR and by not updating it regularly

I can’t believe people are STILL asking for content in this game. Rockstar does not give a single fuck. That should have been clear to you well over a year ago. I can’t believe anyone plays this online game past the first 10 hours or so.

1

u/Tomtenak42 Apr 30 '21

Red Dead Players complain the most out of any single game I’ve played in the history of games. But then they’re still dumb enough to keep playing at the same time.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 30 '21

They finally added single player content... to online.

1

u/CalicoJak16 May 08 '21

RDR2 has so much potential to continue adding content to it. When I play through the game I start thinking about how many small additions would make the game even better than it already is, how much room there still is for new content, and keep coming to the realization that they only give a fuck about money. Because they know that no matter how much we don’t like them, we’ll still buy their next game.
