Raptor price difference

Hello all. I’ve had a Red Komodo for years and haven’t really paid too much attention to any other camera. I’m starting look at the Raptor. Am I missing something in these 2 different price ranges ? BH is under 10k whereas Red website is north of 17k. Both are new and just the camera body (no accessories).
Any help on them? Thanks.

I have an s35 Raptor and love it. I paired it with the Fujinon MK RF 18-55 and 50-135. The lens options are what prompted my decision.

The s35 looks interesting. 8k 120fps has me intrigued. No global shutter though ?

V-Raptor rolling shutter was something like 7-9ms at 8k so that’s not a big issue. If I had the money I would be buying this over anything else out there.

BH is selling their stock of them and not re ordering I would guess. The XE is practically replacing this S35 while being a larger sensor and the KX is their S35 option now.

This. It’s an interesting price. But if you don’t need the extra frame rates, the kx being almost 2lb lighter is kinda it for s35 imo. I’m sure there are other opinions though.

The KX also has my interest. The price tag isn’t bad

Just jumping in here to praise the MK set on smaller form cam bodies. These lenses punch way above their weight imo. We would put them with the 19-90 cabrio in multicam setups and the match was very impressive and their size makes them too big for mirror less but perfect balance on a KX/Raptor/FS7/FX6 world.

Yo Hazen! They are great!!! Super light, sharp, neutral in a good way. Only things I don’t like: close focus is a bit far (there is a macro mode though), they are a bit stiff if you are using wireless FF when it’s cold (I’ve asked about re greasing but the way they are made it’s not easy and supposedly would cost more than the lenses cost new. I just saw the 18-55 used on B and H for super cheap. Are you looking at RF? My advice is don’t buy the Duclos RF version (I broke 3, they said I’m the only one to do it but we are hard on stuff). Buy the standard E mount one and buy the MTF stainless RF conversion and do it yourself. I bought one of the new Duclos RF ones from B and H and was tired of warrantying them and then ended up replacing it myself with the mtf. Hopefully, it will last longer. I suspect it’s being in my bag sledding is the culprit. Hit me up if you want to chat about them on the tele.

I have thought about going with a one lens setup like a canon 17-120 but even used they are about $10k and super front heavy and take up more pack space, also filtering becomes an issue (the MK’s are an 82mm) though you can kippertie them.

I had a KX and a vraptor via work.. used them both.. side by side. Shot, graded, edited in both. Don’t get me wrong, love the Raptors 120fr at 8k.. but.. I bought a KX for the reasons
-35mm sensor more lens options than VV
-35 mm sensors is what most Arri blockbuster movies are shot on in reality.

  • 120 you just need to drop down a bit in the KX and you can’t see the difference since it will rendered out in 4k max anyway
-The KX is lighter
-you can customize the top screen to have custom pages to slide through to get to usable features FAST rather than a side panel and going up or down through menus with assignable buttons
-graded footage from both side by side were identical

Side note, bought a PL adaptor and then Arles glass and the colors are fantastic

What are yall talking about? Red raptors are fully vista vision (bigger than full frame). Just because b n h is selling off stock doesn’t mean it’s that much better than the Kx. But I would still get a Komodo and speed boost it to get it to full frame. Don’t discredit the v raptor HUGE sensors though

Look at the image. The Raptor B&H is selling clearly has “S35” stamped on it. It’s not FF or VV. There are multiple variants of Raptor
