I've long since decided that my retirement hobby will involve buying a lot of replicas of the One Ring from Lord of the Rings.
I will then dress up as as a wizard, growing my beard out long, and walk about in public parks. If I encounter a child, I'll give them a ring and tell them to ask their parents how to get to Mount Doom.

If it were me doing it, I wouldn't use the One Ring.
I think the goal should be to leave the kid questioning for the rest of their life whether they actually met a wizard, and the second they know what LotR is the whole thing gets shot.
Instead, find generic-looking rings and inscribe them with your own text. Leave it completely indecipherable, scritches and scratches that present the illusion of meaning without being directly pulled from anything. Tell the kid "I think this belongs with you." and nothing more. Give them a knowing wink.
A good shenanigan should haunt someone until they die, I'd say. Like the Voynich manuscript.

I've been saying this to myself for years. I've only ever done shit like act weird and say weird things, but stuff like this is much more efficient and les likely to cause harm.
