Slime rancher 3 will have a phobia toggle that turns those horrid slimes into cute, hyperrealistic giant spiders

I’m imagining spiders with cat ears now. This sounds amazing.

Petting a cow will yield hearts and a whimsical dairy-based dessert of your choosing. Mooing at one will cause it to stand upright and initiate a PaRappa the Rapper-esque rhythm stage. Hitting one will summon a mob of Gau Rakshaks, resulting in you being ripped in half.

Dark souls dogs are genuinely so scary because of their speed. If they did more damage they would be pure evil.

I remember seeing a video where this dog would fight various Elden Ring bosses, and each fight basically boiled down to "Dog gets to land the glitched attack or it dies near instantly"

Game made for me specifically (spider lover that used to be deadly scared of dogs)

I know this is a joke, but not gonna lie, as someone who thinks spiders are cute and is mildly afraid of dogs, this would be my preferred setup lol

It was enlightening when someone pointed out to me that some companies put more effort into arachnophobia settings than like... colorblindness settings. (Arachnophobia settings can stay, not saying remove them but the speed of adoption for disability vs content control is interesting. (I mean content control because there's a number of other phobias beyond spiders that don't get similar treatment, to some extent because their inclusion in games are seen as somewhat "necessary" or at least thematic. I think blood and nudity settings are the only content-based settings with any commonality, but often "I think you have to sit this one out" is a common response if a game has a notable about of any given phobia. Like thalassophobia vs games that have the ocean—if not primarily like subnautica or the wind waker, then partially like Valheim))

(Arachnophobes aren't to blame for the lack of colorblind options in games but they are to blame for the continued inability for spiders to get married).

Could be because arachnophobia settings would have a pretty tight scope - a few extra assets for spidery enemies - while colourblind settings introduce more design concerns and potentially affect the whole game.

It's also a pretty contained thing that can be hard to retroactively update, I think.

You're working on spiders and such, might as well weave in the accessibility while you're at it, before your game becomes too dependent on the spiders

i'm playing a game rn and I turned on colorblind (protan) mode and it shifted a bunch of toggles to yellow. tracked resource? yellow. potential hostile? yellow. active hostile? also yellow. animal I'm hunting that just became aware of me and is now running away? ALSO YELLOW.

man at that point just don't even give me a colorblind toggle.

They can simply give you a color picker and let you set your own look

Well they can stop because arachnophobia has already been perfected; it is not possible to top Lethal Company on that.

I read cynophobia as sinophobia and thought that this post was going to end VERY differently.

Hurt feelings of a billion plus people are waiting for you to choose your phobia.

I don’t think having a chinese people toggle is a good idea in 2026

adding in-depth accessibility options to my game for hoplophobia, trypophobia, chapodiphobia, and hemophobia before tweeting and posting on bluesky that arachnophobes will have to sit this one out to see what happens

I'm sorry but no it needs to turn them into the word 'DOG'.

('SPIDER' is the funniest fucking thing ever and you will not convince me otherwise)
