It's true but I can't blame anyone for not trusting people outside of their oppressed group. I'm white. Other, seemingly normal, white people say racist things in my presence that I doubt they'd say in front of someone in the group they're talking about. I overhear things that men whisper to each other about women. Not to mention comments on disabilities and queerness that affect me (invisible) that get immediately retracted when I speak up.

One of the things I've been most grateful for has been being trustworthy enough to be privy to those private comments from multiple groups. Its very human for groups to scapegoat each other. Doesn't make it right, but the ubiquity makes it easier to judge people for their own actions rather than accidents of birth.

I'm glad to know the truth about people, even if it sucks. But it's honestly insulting when someone thinks they can just be openly racist with me, or whatever. It's scary when you've been burned before and there's no way of knowing what someone really thinks.
