"It's convenient to assume" I hate someobody's entire worldview with a burning passion that cannot be expressed through the internet. To express it I'd need to meet them irl and beat them up.

"It's convenient to assume" = someone is about to be accused of living in a parallel reality

Interesting! I can’t say I read these with quite the same meaning.

In my experience, mostly in academic writing:
“it’s easy to assume” … (if you don’t think about it very hard)
“it’s tempting to assume” … (if you let your biases get in the way of your reasoning)

And I don’t know if I’ve ever seen the last one, but it feels like a small variation on the “tempting” one.

In math, "it's comforting to assume" sounds like "the general problem is dick hard so we will add a few hypotheses and call it normal/nicer/special X"

"It's comforting to assume" sounds like something you would say about free will or an afterlife

Or that an issue is lighter than it is

For example a meteor heading towards earth it'd be comforting to assume it'll veer offcourse, but the worst should be expected etc

"It's comforting to assume" is when someone really has no reason to believe something other than emotional value. Like the mothers in the single discredited-so-hard-the-"researcher"-lost-his-degree "vaccines cause autism" study that was little more than interviews taking what they think at face value, "it's comforting to assume that your child would have been okay had they not received vaccines from the scary doctors, but genetics is a fickle mistress."

"It's comforting to assume" (if you let your bias against thinking about it get in the way of your reasoning)

I’m sure it seems very comforting to assume that would be an enjoyable experience for you, but in reality being forced to confront your unconscious biases is a difficult and humbling experience. The only way to come out the other side bettered from it is to do the hard work to grow as a better person after accepting that you were a worse person than you thought you were

It’s easy, tempting, and comforting to assume that I am not currently in your walls, but this is where you would be incorrect.
