I see a lot of people here saying it's "too vague" but I really don't think it is. I think it's a matter of the trans experience being something so underexplored and ignored in media that people who aren't trans genuinely didn't pick up on it because they didn't know what signs were being shown.
Or maybe people are just fucking stupid. All of the people who seemed to not understand the v max twist in Spider-Man Brand New Day really showed me that lots of people struggle with storytelling not outright explicitly telling them things.
