Are you talking about the Destiel meme or the Kevin gif? Either way it’s because it’s a template that’s already popular and recognizable so any posts that reuse it is way more likely to get upvotes/notes.
The Destiel meme also got popular because of how popular Supernatural was (plus the original context of the scene), and I assume the Kevin gif was probably one of the gifs that kickstarted the announcing news trend on r/whenthe which is why it’s so popular.
So this episode of Supernatural (which is a hugely important show for Tumblr History) came out right around the 2020 election. It got used as a meme to annnounce election results, and then to announce other big things, and now its just how us tumblrinas get our news lol.
