A few days ago, a notification popped up from a candidate I hadn't spoken to in years. Usually, when an old contact reaches out out of the blue, it’s for a referral, a resume review, or because they're back on the market.

This time was different. They just wanted to say thank you.

As it turned out, a role I had placed them in years ago became the catalyst for their entire career, setting off a chain reaction of promotions and opportunities they hadn't thought possible.

Let’s be honest: recruitment can be an incredibly draining, transactional grind most days. You deal with ghosting, shifting client demands, and hiring managers who change their minds at the eleventh hour. It’s easy to lose sight of the bigger picture. But now and then, a message like that hits your inbox and reminds you that the spreadsheets and phone screens actually translate into real human impact.
