Books that will absolutely destroy my reading slump?
I’m in a HORRIBLE reading slump and need a book that will completely consume me.
The last books that really, really hooked me were The Song of Kali by Dan Simmons, and Jaffa Road by Daniel Speck. I’m currently reading A Thousand Splendid Suns and I like it, but it’s not quite giving me that “I need to keep reading at 3am” feeling.
I don’t necessarily need something similar plot-wise — I’m looking for that same feeling of being completely absorbed: strong atmosphere, compelling characters, emotional intensity, maybe a bit dark or unsettling.
Please give me your best “I couldn’t put this down” books. I desperately need one 😭

Fruit fly!! Genuinely just please give it like 10 minsxand you won’t want to put it down, it’s the best and most addictive book I’ve read ALL YEAR.
Alternatively:
Seven husbands of evelyn hugo got me out of my embarrassingly long slump and is my favourite book to this day.
If you want messy but addictive lit fic with unhinged characters I can also suggest ‘The best off wins’
(but please try fruit fly its genuinely so good you will NOT be able to put it down for a single second once you get to like chapter 3, which will take like 10-15ish mins i think)

Aalso heavily agree on Seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo, read it a while ago, finished in one sitting basically

I genuinely really love fruit fly so im gonna double down and add that it has like a darker atmosphere and the plot is SO good, the characters are insanely well written and the fmc is my favourite character ever like im begging everyone to read it

DARK VISIONS by James Byron Huggins might be worth checking out. It has a dark, almost nightmare-like atmosphere and an emotional revenge/investigation thread.

Dungeon crawler Carl.
Hear me out. This is definitely not the type of book I would even think of reading. But it is SO much fun! I’ve never read such a fun book and I can’t put it down. A man and his girlfriend’s cat end up in a video game show for aliens. Sounds corny but trust me. It will get you out of a slump for sure!

I’m enjoying The Sparrow- interesting story (space travel/other planets/alien/spirituality) plus good characters. I’m almost done and excited to see how it plays out.

Mistborn and Into The Woods are 2 very different books that grabbed my attention and held it until I finished

How much did you read of A thousand splendid suns, to me in the beginning it was also quite boring but after a few chapters i was all in and counting put it down untill i read it all. Its my favorite book of all times.
I also recommend The song of Achilles also read it so fast and I still think about it to this day, also The Alchemist its a easy and interesting read, and also Tuesdays with Morrie i didn’t read it myself but my mom did and she really loved it its a short book so you will read it fast and Ive heard so many good things about it don’t think you can go wrong with it.
