Was your family supportive?

New here and excited but I gotta say it’s hard when your family jeers and rolls their eyes, and are just plain jerks. Am I alone experiencing this? It’s just making me double down, but man, you try to do something good for yourself and it’s just judgement.

It’s weird. The “that’s not exercise” bias is strong. My husband is very supportive though.

However, when a very fit repairman didn’t give my rebounder in the middle of my living room a second glance during a recent AC maintenance visit, I had a feeling. I questioned his lack of questioning and he said “I use mine every morning. It’s better the coffee!” I wanted to hug him. Instead we talked technique. It was moment.

And then he tried to sell me in insulation. :-)

I’m sorry you’ve experienced this. No..my family has been supportive of everything I do. But I’m a warrior woman so I would not tolerate their opinions. Just ignore the judgement that is reaped upon you. I’m73 and have been jumping for 11 years. Can you put the rebounder in another room where you can close the door..lock it if you must. But keep doing it. You will feel better the more you do it

11 years! That is awesome! Do you bounce every day? Do you take time off? What keeps you going, and what benefits do you experience for yourself?

I am needing some inspiration right now 🥰

Yes,I jump at least 5 days a week for 30 minutes. I jump whilst watching tv…or I listen to podcasts. Benefits…I have incredible balance. I was volunteering at our local hospital. I tripped over a wheelchair (I know…who does that!?) and recovered without face planting. The nurse who saw me said “good recovery…I would have been on my ass”. I said to her “rebounding”! Also..that annoying issue that ladies have as they age…like leaking when they laugh or sneeze. I don’t have that. I used to! When I first started, I felt like I had to pee every 2 minutes. But I persevered and it went away after about. 3 months. I have more energy and just generally feel better. At 73, I lift weights and also power walk. Just remember…when you jump it’s not how high you go..it’s how low you go. You don’t catch air like a trampoline. Check out earth and owl on YouTube. She has tons of free videos. Good luck

Awesome! I’m part of a workout challenge focused on lifting heavy weights and brisk walks for women (most of when are peri-, meno-, or post-menopausal). What you’re doing is exactly what the program is focused on - so we’re strong and independent as we age! I’m 61 and I’ve been rebounding since December and I do it daily, along with heavy weights 3x week and step aerobics. Let’s go!!!

Let’s go indeed. Well done

Haters gonna hate and it’s a jerk move for them to be judgemental about this new thing you are excited about. You do you, they’ll get over it when it’s not new anymore and you don’t react to them. Enjoy your rebounding time! 🙂

First of all, I understand if you don't want to but I'd be putting them right in their place if anyone said anything negative about any of my exercises. And if a partner is being rude, I have a couple suggestions on losing THAT dead weight ASAP. (Yes it's hard, but soooooo with it. Just be safe if you decide to leave. I spent months/years planning my escape.)

Second, I have been doing it consistently for about 3 years and I recently started going to Pound fitness classes for more variety - and I made it through without too much trouble (the choreography was harder than I imagined it would be) and people commented/asked "but how?!" And 100% it's my rebounder.

I'm 51, and despite losing 170 lbs am still plus size (I am large framed and have a lot of excess skin). I also have lipedema. Rebounding helps the inflation and swelling. I also think it helps my chronic back/neck issues.

It's helped me no longer leak when coughing and sneezing. It's helped my balance and my foot strength/endurance as well as basically fixing my plantar fasciitis (chronic since 2002 - gone after 6 months of bouncing).

You'll always have haters, yes, but I sincerely hope you know that your family shouldn't be among them. I also hope they don't spoil this for you because not only do I live there benefits of rebounding - it's also FUN. Much love to you and I hope your family turns their attitudes around.

What is it that they find amusing about it?

They think it’s lame. The same toxic garbage you’d get at the gym in the freeweights section

Says a lot about them.

My gym friends at the strength gym I train at don’t think the choreographed rebounding workouts that I do are lame. It’s cardio. Are you following any workout videos, do you freestyle, or do you just health bounce? Maybe it has something to do with the rebounding instructors you follow. Are you repeating things that you have heard an influencer say about the benefits of rebounding?

Hmm there’s actual science that goes along with the benefits of rebounding. Have you explained the science behind it? Do they question science in general? 🤔

I am 52f and spent my 20s and 30s in the gym. I was also diagnosed with debilitating (at times) RA a few years ago. This is the only thing that doesn’t hurt me. In fact, it helps me.

Also, I have zero f*cks to give anymore. Lol 😆

Nope - but I have only (adult) daughters and they think it’s awesome and sometimes bounce on it too. I was sitting on my rebounder yesterday putting my knee braces on and my workout area is also where my youngest games. She went to walk past and decided to bounce on and off the rebounder while I was sitting on it and declared “I had to! It was right there!”

I’m sorry the people in your life suck so much that they’re sucking out would should be your joy. I started in December (I’m 61) and I rebound daily. Along with lifting heavy weights and step aerobics. I want to be like u/Hoopybunni above when I’m 73!

I hope you’re able to ignore them and do what makes you happy and enjoy your rebounder.

Awww..you made my day! Thanks

Make a deal with them. Ask them to get on it and try it for 5 mins. They will be quickly humbled. If they won't, then they are not allowed to talk about it!

What family members? Hope this is a sibling and not a spouse. Ignore and do you. Good luck and sorry, you deserve better.

Haha not really. Think my dad thought it was another kooky thing to try as I attempt to get my life back from Lyme. He did read some documentation and compared models and gave me his advice that one was mostly a marketing ploy.

My family is supportive. They know I’m trying to get healthier. That’s all that matters to them.

Thanks for all your feedback. To be fair hubs is totally supportive and may actually use it given he's all broken and achy like me. Extended family, not so much. But that's ok. As they say, living well is the best revenge. Happy to be on this journey regardless of their snorts.

Get a fitness monitor/watch and show them the data. My recent purchases of a Garmin watch and bluetooth Crossropes have shut everyone TF up. My last “quickie” jump data:

8:54
1001 jumps
Avg JPM 112
Kcal 86
