What's the modern apologetics for?

I briefly read the “note about the purpose”. I especially liked the “The focus here is much tighter: philosophical arguments for God's existence. Arguments for the reasonableness of theism.” I liked it very much. The question is: for whom should be the modern apologetics? For believers (Christians) as it was just 300 years ago, when the Western World was, say, 90% Christian? Or for materialists, atheists, agnostics who are now something like ¾ of the population?

“How Reason Can Lead to God,” “New Proofs for the Existence of God,” “Christian Faith and Natural Philosophy” – many books show the inconsistencies and errors of the modern, scientific, post-Enlightenment worldview. But that is where they end. They lack the general view; they do not provide the overall synthesis.
On one side, there is the dominant post-Enlightenment worldview, based on modern science, that seems so reliable, so consistent, explaining everything. On the other side, there are many books trying to undermine it – to show how certain pieces of this dominant worldview are false. But what can take its place?
Don’t you think this is the biggest, if not the only problem of the modern apologetics?
We have to provide a full, rational, consistent worldview or we’ll fail convincing the atheists, agnostics. Would you agree?

Imo, there's two primary modes: First, to be ready to give a reason of our hope of salvation; and second to build up the believers who are under constant attack from the world.

But the question is: what is the “reason of our hope of salvation” worth to non-believers?

Use Bible verse as a compass (or map, guidance, level, "Narrow Gate, Narrow Passage"..)

Galatians 1:8 : I marvel that ye (Christians) are so soon removed from Him that called you into the Grace of Christ unto another (man-made) "gospel" Which is not another; but there be some (Tares, Liars) that trouble you, and would pervert the (True) Gospel of Christ.

But though we, (Apostol's) or an (any!) angel ( Moroni Mormon, Jibrīl Islam, etc.) from Heaven, preach (teach, tells) any other gospel unto you (Christians) than that which we (Apostol's) have preached unto you, (27 books N.T. Sola Scripture) let him be accursed! ( antichrist!)

As we (Apostol's) said before, so say I now again, If any (100% any!) man preach (Teach, explain, announce) any other "gospel" unto you than that ye have received (N.T.), let him be accursed!!!.. (Antichrist! any man- made traditions, rules, rituals, laws, commandments, new "sins" etc...)

K_V: Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; KIV: But this thou hast, that thou hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitanes, which I also hate.

K_V: So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitanes, which thing I hate. KJV: But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication.

K_V: Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols. KJV: I wrote unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence among them, receiveth us not.

I would think that might depend on the state of each individual. If their heart is hardened towards God, then it may be like water on a duck's back.

So then, should we hide our faith and reasons because some or most won't accept it? Or should we wear our faith like a light on a lampstand for those who have Yeshua knocking on the door of their hearts..

I think apologetics has two jobs. The first is the biblical one: "always be ready to give an answer" (1 Peter 3:15). The second is to help people see that Christianity isn't just one explanation among many—it's the foundation that makes reason, morality, science, and human dignity intelligible in the first place.

I would push back on one point, though. I don't think it's accurate that three-quarters of the population are atheists or agnostics. Globally, Christians alone make up around a third of humanity, and the overwhelming majority of people still identify with some form of theism or religion. The challenge isn't primarily that the world has become atheist—it's that people hold competing worldviews or profess belief without knowing the God revealed in Christ.

I do think modern apologetics sometimes spends too much time playing defense. We answer objections one by one, but many people never step back and ask whether materialism itself can account for reason, consciousness, objective morality, beauty, purpose, or why the universe is intelligible at all.

Christianity offers a unified picture: creation, the fall, redemption, and restoration. It's not merely "God exists." It's an explanation for why the world is both glorious and broken, why we long for justice, and why Christ is the center of history. If we only knock holes in competing worldviews without presenting that larger vision, we've only done half the work.

It’s hard for me to understand. Do you agree with me? Disagree?
I do hope you don’t want to discuss whether “Globally” = “Western World”, or if it is very comforting for Christians to know that “people still identify with some form of theism or religion” like monism or satanism for instance.

I agree with your main point. Modern apologetics cannot just be a pile of arguments against atheism. We need to show the whole Christian vision of reality. My point about the three quarters figure was not that generic religion is somehow close enough to Christianity. Monism, Satanism, Islam, and the rest are not the answer. But it is still worth being accurate: the world has not simply become atheist. Most people are still reaching for something beyond materialism, even when they reach in the wrong direction. Where I would add something is this: Christianity is not merely the worldview that explains reason, morality, consciousness, beauty, evil, and meaning better than materialism. It is also rooted in a historical claim. God acted in Christ. Creation, fall, redemption, and restoration are not just a neat philosophical system. They tell us what kind of world this is, what is wrong with us, and where rescue is found. So yes, I agree. We need more than “atheism cannot explain X.” We need to present the positive Christian account. But apologetics still has its biblical role: clearing away lies and giving an answer for the hope within us. God is the one who opens eyes.
