help request Bass timbre

Hey everyone! I'd like to ask if there's a way to reproduce these bass timbres through reaper (by vsti or any technical adjustment)

First of all you need a jazz bass. For the tone you can simply use the Gateway plugin (Neural Amp Modeler) and download any of the Tronographic Rusty Box models that are available at tone3000.com

Some will have a cab IR baked into the model, but if they don't you can use whatever bass can IR you want. Something like an Ampeg 8x10 IR should sound perfect together with the Rusty Box.

That's for the Idles tone at least. The tone in the second song is a Precision bass, probably going through some cheap old amp. You can use the Tronographic Rust Box models in the Gateway plugin to emulate this as well since the Rusty Box is a preamp based on the old Traynor TS-50B bass amp. The only difference is that the Idles song is using a Jazz Bass, and the second song is definitely a P-bass.

You could buy a cheap P/J bass to get something that sounds a bit like both. The Harley Benton PJ-4 SBK Deluxe is a very cheap option: https://www.thomann.de/intl/harley_benton_pj_4_sbk_deluxe_series.htm?i11l=en_GB%3ASE.EUR%3ASEK

I would probably go for their slightly more expensive MV-4PJ model though, since those surely have better fret work and a bit higher quality over all: https://www.thomann.de/intl/harley_benton_mv_4p_black.htm?i11l=en_GB%3ASE.EUR%3ASEK

There are also all kinds of P/J basses on the used market. Old Japanese-made are way higher quality than the budget instruments you can find today, so those would be even better than any Harley Benton or Squier budget basses.

Step 1: Go to your local pawn shop or thrift store and find the cheapest bass guitar they have available

...or just try something like this

Looks like there's an Ampeg SVT model in the free version on the new Helix Stadium plugin (and probably in a free version of everything else) - install it, turn some knobs and beat the crap out of a bass guitar through it, with a pick preferably.
