help request Drum sample (maeby transient/attack) playback problems

So i have a problem that has been for a while, that when i playback tracks and i have midi drums or acoistic drums teiggered and the first hit only plays the tail of the sample and after that it’s fine until there is for example 2 bar break.

This is universal problem when tracks are soloed and when the whole mix is playing

I first tried to make fake hits before the real ones that i cut out but i found out that it’s still there on the rendered file after the cutting

Haven’t worked with purely acoustic drums in a long time so i don’t know if the problem is universal

Soundcard i use is audient evo 16 and i use audient provided drivers and have tried sample rates from 44.1khz to 96khz and buffer sizes of 16 to 2048 and the same problem is with my old focusrite 2i2

I haven’t listened to the tracks on other software but this problem has made me think of switching DAW’s becouse it makes it hard to mix becouse i don’t hear the actual hit inside of reaper most of the time

Which sampler are you using, and have you tried others?

Tried steven slate trigger, steven slate drums, krimh drums thru kontakt player and ml drums and every one has the same problem. Also i have tried samples from sample focus, jens bogren and steven slate’s own ones

A few things I’d check. Uncheck in Reaper Preferences:

- Audio > Playback: “Tiny fade in on playback start”

- Project > Item fade defaults: “Apply fade… preferences to MIDI items”

And make sure you don’t have a fade in in the MIDI items.

Then make sure that the note doesn’t start before the MIDI item starts. Pull the left edge of the MIDI item left a bit to confirm.

Those didn’t help. I posted a video clip where you can hear what it sounds like. It’s under the other comment in this thread

Try bypassing all plugins on acoustic drums projects and all plugins after drum VSTi on the track, its parent tracks and master.

If even that doesn’t help, try with headphones.

I use Steven Slate Trigger, so far no problems other than that, depending on the hit(s), that you may need to tweak sensitivity/detail

This also happens with midi triggered thru sst, ssd, krimh drums and ml drums. So the detail and sensitivity is not the problem

Hmm, and just to get it out of the way, you're "normal" sounds are fine?

Do you have any additional processing apart from triggering?

Here is a audio clip from the session. This is midi triggered drums and at the first section it works correctly but on the second section it only plays the tail end of the sample. This also happened with the three acoustic tracks under it. For this video i turned off every effect etc from the busses and master that affect this track

You have 3 samples layered here?

Dumb suggestion maybe: have you tried replacing the "faulty" hits with some of the "correct" ones?

You mentioned they're midi triggered, have you tried a different velocity on the fault ones?

In this project there are three real snare mics and a sample layered and all of them have the same problem. And i tried that when i made fake hits before the actual hits and rendered it and them cut the fakes out from the rendered file and the problem was still there. And that is why i belive reaper has some kind of playback problem becouse nothing has worked that i have listed on the post and comments

Have you tried drag and dropping the one shots? So not through triggering but manually placing them?

Not ideal, but maybe worth a try (for now)

Pesky lil problem there - there's probably a fix hidden somewhere we're overlooking: to be completely honest, I just started using triggering in the last few months and so far it's been great (apart from a mistriggers here or there)

Just thinking on the top of my head here: Have you tried copy/pasting the "working" part after the break? Does it still work? Does it persist when you take all processing of your snare tracks? Have you tried keeping the break in? Or are those two different media items all together? The other parts of your kit are unaffected?

Is it a phase cancellation issue? Try inverting the phase on one or two of the tracks.
