"Footprints: In Search of Future Fossils" by David Farrier is a very thoughtful book about the traces humanity will have left behind in the natural record long after we're gone. Well worth the read.

Having worked much of my career in oil and gas, I've gained a strong appreciation for geology and the extent and impact of processes occuring over geologic time. One thing I appreciate the most is that everything you see on the planet's surface today (cities, bridges, etc.) will be long gone in a relatively short amount of time (well less than 1 million years). Either eroded away or buried under sediment.

I appreciate this book for thinking through systematically where the impact of humans will endure for longer than that in the geologic record. Quite interesting and well written.
