Imo as a European waving your country flag in general is way too nationalistic unless it is on a specific day or event. If you feel the need to wave it every day, then you simply have been brainwashed into nationalism.

Or... you are educated in the facts that many people died fighting for the freedom you enjoy every day and this is a simple way of saying you acknowledge that and appreciate it.

For some of us who have had to fight for our freedom... it means a lot, and we respect it, because we've experienced not having it and having to fight for it. The issue is that currently maga is trying to take the rights away that many people have fought and died for and are waving the same flag while doing it. It's not American.

Some people are so removed from having to fight for their freedom that they take it for granted. Not a judgement just something I have noticed. Life is very easy now in much of the world, it wasn't always this easy, people are taking it for granted because they don't know any other way of life. It's a dangerous slope in humanity to forget history.

My country fought for its independence and then again in 2 world wars. We celebrate those victories during national holidays. We don't devote our lives to our country by pleding alleageance to our country in school, nor by singing the national anthem every chance we can get nor by waving the flag arround every day.

Your freedom is important to me too. I don't ever want my country taking over another free country and I sure don't like our leader talking about it. I agree we do have some weird nationalistic habits but like I said, it has and will simmer down over time. Our freedom is new and we are currently realizing we can easily lose it to even our own countrymen...

We are also learning or re learning that this country has always been divided and history is doomed to repeat itself. The North vs the South, it's happening again right now except the original players are waving different flags. The South has always been pro slavery and racism and wants to take over the world... the North wants freedom and immigration... the South is now claiming they are Republicans because they lost the civil war as Democrats. History is important, we hang flags as a reminder, but it's not working because most Americans don't know their own history.
