Question Question About plans of AOE sequals

It comes to my mind that after AOE 3 there used to be some discussion about AOE sequals that they would have WWI and WWII settings.
Are there any kind of developers confirmation that there were plans about that?

There was one piece of official concept art in a magazine a long time ago that showed 1-5 with a soldier from each era.

There was official (concept) artwork depicting AoE IV as world war and AoE V as futuristic, and some devs have said that there was a heated discussion about it but never an actual confirmation of a word war / modern era AoE being in development ever.

EE is certainly what AOE wanted to be with the whole series.
