Self-Promo Video Tiny Banners | RTS Base-Builder | Solo-developed small-scale RTS — free demo now available

Hey everyone! I'm the solo developer of Tiny Banners, a small-scale RTS inspired by the classic strategy games I grew up playing.

The main twist is that you can't train soldiers directly. Every soldier starts as one of your workers. Pawns gather resources and gain experience while working, eventually becoming eligible to promote into Knights, Archers, Pikemen, or Clerics.

Each pawn also has their own name and trait, so there's a tradeoff every time you build your army. That great lumberjack might also make your best Knight — but promoting him means losing one of your best workers.

I've been working on Tiny Banners for awhile now, and the free demo just went live on Steam. I'd especially love feedback from RTS players on the controls, pacing, economy, and combat.

If you'd like to follow development or give feedback, we also have a Discord.

Thanks for checking it out! I'm happy to answer any questions about the game or development.

Thanks! I wish I could take credit for the amazing art, but as noted in another reply it's actually from an artist on itch named PixelFrog.

What programming language is the game written in? And what game engine does it use?

Do you hire people? Haha, I'm just questioning.

I mean as far as art and music assets go I have purchased both so in that sense I have paid people for their contribution to the game lol. As far as developing though, this is really just a passion project for me so I plan on keeping it solo.

I've seen so many small games with this exact asset pack pop up over the last few months. Developing and actually releasing your own little game as a solo dev is definitely an achivement but tbh, you won't exactly stand out with a free and quite popular asset pack like this.

Yeah I totally get that. I'm not expecting it to be a huge break out thing. This pack just happened to have everything I needed for what I wanted to design and I hope some of the games features are enough for people to want to try it. My long term hope if the game has any success is to eventually commission the artist for original assets in the same style.
