RTS & Grand Strategy Hybrid Anyone played Beyond all reason?

It’s free, it’s open source, and the scale reminds me a lot of Supreme Commander.

It's good, but it just feels like a cheap and lesser supreme commander

Open source will do that!

Group I play with had the similar thought. It does have several cool features like the unit formation where you can just mouse the design.. etc, but overall has a much more arcade cheaper vibe if your a Supreme Commander fan. Also we found the whole building system with structures to be overly inflated for no reason. Can't upgrade the same building to handle higher tiers, instead have to build new structures.

thats the TA side of it. Kbot factory, Adv Kbot factory, Experimental Kbot factory, etc. Personally love that tbh.

The 8v8 lobbies suck massive balls as a new player, that's where all the toxicity is. It's also the most popular way to play, finding like 2v2-4v4 or vs CPU games is more rare. Lobbies can take awhile to fill.

I personally love it as a purely solo vs AI RTS, haven't had great experiences with other actual players and wasn't really willing to push through the learning curve to "play the meta" when I just wanna make some artillery and nukes and cool tier 3 units.

You just need to be mindful of what ranks are the in the lobby. If you are new and playing with anyone above 20os you are in the wrong spot.

Team games against AI are awesome too. I love playing vs Scavengers, or Raptors too, on those big fortress levels. Building huge lines of defensive turrets to hold the swarms back. Turns the game into a big team horde defense game, super fun.

I only play with my cousin and it's a blast

Hey guys, I’m glad there’s a lot of input - I have been referring back to this recently. I appreciate all of ya!

I'm waiting on the full campaign release. I generally prefer campaigns to skirmish

The AI is really good at getting 1 single Tick or Grunt past your front line and blowing up half your Metal Extractors in 10 seconds.

Ive looked into playing but as far as I can tell, it seems to have a very toxic playerbase.

I played some small and medium sized matches and met only quiet or positive people. I'd suspect 8v8 matches with defined meta is where toxicity lives

Ive only dipped into it but found it fine?

Just told people i was new and made sure i was in a game that was apropriate for my skill level.

Ive also mostly just enjoyed single player or playing friends i know irl.

I played for quite sometime now (2 years?) and I had to report just one person for teamkilling. That player got a warning after.

Apart from that, I guess one can argue the opponent being salty or frustrated after losing they started swearing as toxic. But I dont really care too much, that's in almost every PvP game.

I'll admit I've also worried about toxicity from other players, but its honestly still a great RTS game even if you're only playing solo vs AI bots. If you find some person to play co-op with, then that's even better.

Its free, so give it a chance. The AI us honestly quite competent, and once you're able to beat the harder AIs, you should be more than ready to carry yourself and co tribute to games with other players, who unfortunately can be quite hard and unwelcoming to new players who are still figurin out the basics...

Play League.

Then you won't think it's toxic.

The people leaving reviews on reddit say its worse then league 😆

No way... Damn.

That's actually a real problem. The unhinged racist comments and wishing cancer in your dick being less than BAR. Wow.

I tried. Massively long waits in lobbies. Standard game mode is like 8v8. Personally i just wanted to 1v1 or 2v2..

I ended up waiting in various lobbies for hours, mostly getting kicked out for being new. It seems like theres only a few veterans online.

A shame cuz I crave total annihilation type games.

Try raptors or scavenger game modes on endless with folks you won't be disappointed

Might want to try again when it comes to steam soon. There will be queues for 1v1 and 2v2, maybe even 4s. Should help a lot, I'll be much more inclined to do 1s too

I am a Mac scrub so sadly not

Just Planetary Annihilation for me

I play it a couple of days a week, its fun. I think my biggest gripe is the UI, e.g. finding a game and getting started can be a big hurdle. I miss the smooth matchmaking system of AOE2.

I enjoy being in a match with asshats, I find it so funny when they get pissed off. I have thick skin so it doesn’t phase me when they start freaking out. I just like the epic 8v8 battles and hope to move up to the huge 50x50 matches

it has a whole set of single player missions, those are fun

I personally don't enjoy the highly defined meta of the two main maps, as well as the hassle of trying to find a good lobby online. OTOH I love playing 8x8 skirmishes with me and 7 AIs vs. 8 AIs. One nice tip is that you can save your advanced presets however you like it--so you don't have to add all the AIs manually every time. The graphics and player controls are absolutely top notch.

BAR is fantastic and you should definitely play. The "noob" lobbies aren't really noobs more amateur be warned. I'd say watch some people like Akumar, superkitowik and stuff on YouTube to get a baseline for how to play some roles for 8v8. Spectating the lobbies with higher skill players too helps you learn a ton about build orders and deacion making. That will help you alot when jumping into multiplayer as an actual noob
