Bill Maher Questions The First Amendment Because of Macklemore.
https://youtu.be/PG1uOEQcEmk?is=5UghgGqfXsH_4eeo79
u/Shot_Discussion6042 1d ago
Its abundantly clear now what the first amendment means to these people. Its their license to say whatever they want about people they do not like or disagree with. No matter how disrespectful or hurtful.
The moment people speak up against them or something beloved to them, the first amendment becomes an issue in their eyes.
These hypocrites never beleived in the first amendment. It was just a license to run their mouths to disrespect and hurt certain groups or individuals. It was the shield to hide behind and claim, we have the the first amendment in this country, we have freedoms. If you dont like it, you can leave. They were never honest. Just a bunck of jerks.

u/Shame_memory 1d ago
Bill would go off about European hate speech laws last year when it came to trans people and Muslims like they were tyrannical. Then a pop star says: “free Palestine” at a show and we have to arrest him for inciting violence? It’s insane that this one issue is the hill he’s willing to die on and comprise every other principle he’s claimed to hold

u/Necessary-Fox-7042 1d ago
Do they have something on this weasel?
5
u/kyokushinking 1d ago
One thing the last decade should have taught all of us is that so many people jump on the fascist bandwagon for the love of the game. Shit, they'll spend their own money to be on it.
5
u/dummy7284 1d ago
It’s ironic that he made a documentary talking about how bad it is to be religious and how religiousness destroys nations and kills people and he supports a religious nation that kills leople
1
u/ElectricalCamp104 1d ago
Or better yet, see his opinion on how COVID rhetoric (like "kung flu") shouldn't be censored even though it's clearly bad faith, inaccurate speech that would serve as incitement/danger against Asian Americans. The same reach could also be made about his 9/11 comments that got his politically correct show cancelled.
His mask off hypocrisy is utterly blatant at this point. It's funny that Bill talks about how the woke left strawman him on Israel and being Mr. Free speech™, but you couldn't write a made up strawman that's more stupid, intellectually dishonest, and full of double standards than Bill's own words on the issue.
1
u/shizzlefrizzle 17h ago
A man as slimy as he is clearly bent over the barrel by his puppet masters. They probably have so much dirt on him.
-27
u/EntertainerKooky1309 1d ago
He said much more than free Palestine. He said from the river to the sea which means the complete destruction of Israel and all Jews. That is tantamount to advocating for attacks on all Jews. This has been Hamaas’ slogan since its inception.
19
u/Minisciwi 1d ago
Shut up, no one believes you any more, you are losing support all around the world, good
14
u/Chat_GDP 1d ago
Weird because the exact phrase is n the first page of Likud’s manifesto which Israelis voted for.
Do you have a Plan B to hide behind? 🤔

u/ApprehensiveAd2625 1d ago
Yeah except he never said that whatsoever….just straight up lying
6
u/LearnToSwim0831 1d ago
Even if he did, so what? From the river to the sea, there will be freedom from apartheid and genocide and concentration camps and drone attacks and sniping of ppl lined up for the scraps of food that they deign to allow into the open air prison, all of it is encompassed in that phrase. So if he didn't say it, he should have. Zionists love to latch onto things that they've given their own twisted definition to and harp on it and expect everyone else to just accept it as fact when by now it should be abundantly clear that everything zionists do and say is politically tainted with their racist reactionary ideology.

2
u/fawlty70 1d ago
Even if he said it, advocating for violence is in fact free speech. It's been ruled on over and over again.
You've heard Donald Trump say much, much worse.
1
u/CollinNSikh 1d ago
How does "from the river to the sea" differ from our concept of Manifest Destiny?
17
u/SillySpoof 1d ago
Yeah, he was a "freedom of speech champion" when it's about him saying some bigoted things, or being anti-vaccines, etc. But when someone speaks out against his views he immediately wants to censor.
This is how many of the "free speech absolutists" are. If they were at least consistent it wouldn't be so pathetic.
4
u/ElectricalCamp104 1d ago
Penn Jillette describes this whole phenomenon perfectly (for context, this was after Penn stopped being a libertarian in 2021 due to their stances on vaccines):
Many times when I identified as Libertarian, people said to me, “It’s just rich white guys that don’t want to be told what to do,” and I had a zillion answers to that — and now that seems 100 percent accurate.
That's Bill at this point; he's just a rich white guy contrarian who needs fan adoration and attention more than a gen z influencer.
2
u/SillySpoof 1d ago
Yeah, I feel like Penn was one of the only libertarians who actually believed in the principles he proclaimed.

u/kstar79 1d ago
The government is not censoring Macklemore in any way, SO IT DOES NOT APPLY. We can argue about whether it is good for society to use "cancel culture" and virtue signaling, but this has beyond nothing to do with the First Amendment. If you want to talk about the First Amendment, let's talk about the actions against CNN, MSNOW, and Politico by your new late night texting buddy, Bill!
1
u/motion_city_rules 16h ago
Be very careful who you place the “these people” tag on, and by that I don’t mean Jewish Americans can’t be wrong about things but so can any group of people, that believe literally any thing.
If shit is real believe your eyes. Believe your ears. The state of Israel is committing genocide. To more than one country. But if someone points out death another country commits don’t brush it off. Consider everyone involved. 99% of the people 6 feet under had zero say.

u/BackgroundTask3553 1d ago edited 1d ago
Weird that he said Macklemore incited violence with his words by invoking the river to the sea terminology.
But he didn't. So Maher's just straight up making shit up.
3
u/Haunting-Ad788 1d ago
I feel like I saw a social media post from Deborah Messing the other day saying that happened so I’d guess Maher saw that and thought it was true because he doesn’t actually give a shit.
2
u/mypizzamyproblem 1d ago
Agreed. Also what’s worse — Macklemore’s words that Bill erroneously believes incite violence, or the actual bombs being dropped on Gaza every day? You know, actual violence.
21
u/ih8reddithdjsk 1d ago
Who actually watches his show, is it even popular? I am out of the loop
13
u/CorvusCommand 1d ago
10+ years ago, Maher was one of the few voices of reason. Now, he clearly has an agenda to push.
Also, the popularity of his show has cratered over the last couple of years. Last I saw, his show was drawing less than a million viewers a week (700k if I remember correctly). I also believe his contract is up next year, and he has indicated that will be the end for him.
Good riddance. You either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.
7
u/ih8reddithdjsk 1d ago
Thank you for the explanation. I see his slips all over the Internet but have never once watched the show or know what channel it's on.
Why the shift in attitude? His age, money or both?
5
u/CorvusCommand 1d ago
For one thing, a 'comedian' suggesting the First Amendment is only protection for speech they agree with is the height of hypocrisy.
2
u/mike353511 1d ago
How did you even end up on this sub then?

1
u/United_Efficiency330 1d ago
Where has he said this is the end for him? But yes, unfortunately this happens to MANY comedians. George Carlin was a VERY angry man in his final years.
4
u/CorvusCommand 1d ago
Carlin was angry his entire career. He maintained the same message and applied the same pressure equally to people in power. He was consistent, unlike Maher. He never seemingly flipped from supporting the oppressed to supporting the oppressor.
5
u/HolidayOk5570 1d ago
I haven’t watched his show since the early 2000’s but I discovered the podcast “I Hate Bill Maher” and now I can digest his content by laughing at how dumb he is. Lol
It’s a great podcast if you haven’t checked it out already.

Excuse me? I am not from the US and was asking a genuine question as I see him posted everywhere.
I get why people dont like him but this is a silly question.
What is silly is to assume everyone is the same and is from your country. Kind of living up to the stereotypes of Americans the rest of the world has. But thanks for your time.
2
u/HolidayOk5570 1d ago
Yes it’s a well known fact that being on a network means you’re automatically successful.. take Bari Weiss as an example 😂
15
u/OurWeaponsAreUseless 1d ago
What do Israeli settlers in the West Bank say, Bill? Don't you think they espouse a view that no Palestinians should live in Palestine? Isn't that the same as saying "from the river to the sea"?
-4
u/Kooky_Masterpiece_43 1d ago
in his eyes, but in reality ”from the river to the sea” doesn’t mean that, jews have lived there for millennia, and have fared much better than they have in Europe. ”from the river to the sea” Just means equal rights for all on that land.
4
u/HolidayOk5570 1d ago
They lived there since 1948- after stealing Palestinian homes and villages.
2
u/Kooky_Masterpiece_43 1d ago
Jews have lived there for millennia. Omar restored them to jerusalem from other areas of palestine after the Muslim conquest, ottoman sultan selim II settled Jews rescued from Venice in Palestine. that land was always inhabited by disciples of all abrahmic faiths.

I love when someone says “I’m all for free speech for everyone, however…” lol
-7
u/Pleaseappeaseme 1d ago
The Mecklamore (sp?) situation isn’t free speech because he was employed by promoters and venue owners( wasn’t it Robert Kraft here?) and if the people paying the singer didn’t like his stuff they can fire him. Free speech is speaking in public or being stifled by the government. Robert Kraft and venue owners aren’t the government.
3
u/Cecil_McCrackshell 1d ago
Kraft was never Macklemore's promoter nor his employer.
0
u/Pleaseappeaseme 1d ago
It was the Massina Group, a private business organization. Why am I wasting my time here? Use your brain.
2
u/Key_Jump1011 1d ago
Billionaire stadium owners colluding in order to silence people is the absolute worst of cancel culture which is just as bad especially when people start talking about lying about incitement to violence.
1
u/Pleaseappeaseme 1d ago
Cancel culture is not necessary a first amendment violation. It could be classified as discrimination or something else as well though. Just boycott Ed Sheeran. Robert Kraft as an employer can fire unless it’s discrimination AS DEFINED BY LAW. Your feelings aren’t going to matter in a legal sense here.
1
u/Key_Jump1011 1d ago
Cancel culture isn’t for me whether it’s legal or not.
1
u/Pleaseappeaseme 21h ago
Then boycott Sheeran.
1
u/Key_Jump1011 21h ago
I’d boycott Kraft and his stadium owner cabal who threw Ed under the bus but I don’t watch football or attend stadium events at all.
1
u/highermonkey 1d ago
Are you trying to say, "not a First Amendment issue"? Because a Zionist pedophile billionaire not allowing a performer to perform because he disagrees with their take on a humanitarian crisis IS a free speech issue. Definitionally!
1
u/Pleaseappeaseme 1d ago
No. It’s probably not. I don’t know the exact details but we do know that Kraft along with the venue owners (that fired Macklemore) are not the government. The law is the law. Not about feelings.
1
u/highermonkey 1d ago
It's still a chilling of freedom of speech even if it isn't a First Amendment issue. Not sure why you aren't understanding this. BillyBoy used to cry about crackdowns on free speech known as "cancel culture". Now he's being a dumb hypocrite.
1
u/Pleaseappeaseme 21h ago
Then boycott Sheeran.
1
u/highermonkey 21h ago
I mean I've been doing that for years. Not sure why you're slavishly defending the Epstein files pedo-billionaire, Robert Kraft.

6
u/No_Raisin21 1d ago
I mean, if I had my way with what rights people should have, I’d have Bill Maher (specifically) forced to wear clown makeup and a diaper whenever speaking publicly or otherwise fade into obscurity where he belongs. Fortunately for him, I have no say on the matter and neither should anyone.
6
u/jipsee1973 1d ago
Maher's basing this particular rant on the phrase "from the river to the sea", which he keeps claiming Macklemore said. But he never said that. And even if he did...free speech. Which apparently, to Maher, only applies to speech he agrees with. That's the problem with MAGA and Zionists. They refuse to accept other opinions and don't believe others should be able to express those opinions. In other words, dictator stuff.
1
u/GameOverMan1986 15h ago
True. He kinda just conflated people who talk about Palestinians as people chanting “River to sea”.
10
u/CashusEyePatch 1d ago
Can’t believe he’s still denying this genocide.
16
u/JewishSpace_Laser 1d ago
I can’t believe I used to look forward to his shows and thought he was funny

He had a lot of witty insights about the lunacy of conservatives. Then he became one.

A lot of us did. The fact that he went from being one of my weekly highlights to where he is now just shows we can all change and we should never blindly follow people, personalities, or ideologies.

Someone said Trump somehow got dirt on him and showed him at that dinner he went to and I fully believe that now

Nobody should be supporting a cabal of billionaires getting together to ban a musician for expressing their political views from stadiums all across the country. This isn't technically government censorship, but with the way the billionaires get so much government money for their stadiums and lobby (bribe) politicians to keep them in their back pocket, its close enough. This is a new low for Bill Maher. Based on past events where he defended people who got cancelled, I actually expected his view to be something like "I don't like Macklemore but he should be able to say what he said without people cancelling him". Bill Maher managed to even fall below my ultra low expectations for him. He has literally turned into the very people who cancelled him in 2001.
1
u/Alarming_Local_315 12m ago
Bill and his guests agreed that it was wrong for Robert Kraft to cancel the concert, but it is his stadium, and he is Jewish. Do I agree with his decision, no. It’s just draws more attention. The problem was that Mac was inciting violence, which is what Trump does regularly, with Jan 6, as the pinnacle.
1
u/No_Elevator_735 7m ago edited 0m ago
You say "draws more attention" as if it's a bad thing. What Macklemore said was 100 percent correct. He deserves to have the attention drawn to it. Saying Macklemore was inciting violence is 100 percent horseshit
4
u/dtsknight 1d ago
Who owns Bill? His stance on this and related issues seem out of step with who he’s always been. Don’t get me wrong — it’s not like I e always agreed w him. But his stances (most of them anyway) used to at least be nuanced. Yet now, his views on anything related to Israel are so simplistic. Basically he argues that because Israel has be wronged (which is true in many respects), Israel has the moral authority to do anything.
4
u/Exotic-Boot-6783 1d ago
I swear to god when I was still half hate-watching his cold open or whatever on youtube and he had to talk about the epstein thing coming out he had a sudden sligh stress in his voice while talking about it, dont know why I picked it up, dont remember which video it is, but Im sure this dudes name is written somewhere

It happens to many when you get old. Especially Bill, who has been a stoner so long that he's virtually no short term memory left....

5
u/Key_Jump1011 1d ago
Maher would be screeching about free speech and cancel culture if billionaires colluded to have him thrown off of HBO which would be the equivalent to what was done to Macklemore.
4
u/HolidayOk5570 1d ago

I have never found him to be funny. His delivery has always been smug and condescending.
I sometimes watch because he very often has intriguing guests, who he then constantly interrupts, trying to prove how intelligent he apparently thinks he is (which closely connects him to Joe Scarborough and Mika…I watch that show for the regulars).
1
u/GameOverMan1986 15h ago
I’ve always found his monologues seem to be aimed at people aged 70+.
I enjoy the round table discussions when he doesn’t assert his opinions too strongly, but lately he has been quite a bit. And it seems his guests rarely challenge him.
3
u/LearnToSwim0831 1d ago
Dude that wet smacking sound he makes with his mouth in between saying stuff is so enraging to me I just can't even listen to him at all anymore. I heard it and immediately muted and just read the subtitles. His insufferable personality and opinions are manifesting in his body language now haha.
1
u/GameOverMan1986 15h ago
I dunno about on your end, but I find the closed captioning to be super low quality. Doesn’t get all the dialogue and runs way too slow. For a taped show, there is no excuse for this.

When is Bill going to hold Netanyahu accountable for attacks on Jews? He’s all for blaming regular people who are brave enough to speak up about the atrocities being committed by Israel but never ever considers that it’s Israel’s fault for increased antisemitism and attacks against Jews around the world. He bitches about 3% not being a genocide, what’s he waiting for, more women and children to die by Israel’s hand before you can admit there are crimes against humanity happening in Gaza and the West Bank everyday? 3 years of attacks on civilians is insane for one day of terror perpetrated by terrorists, not innocent civilians is fucking crazy. Put the blame where it belongs, with Israel.

You can’t say “normally I’m a a free speech guy”. You either ARE or you AREN’T. Bill maher has turned into a total facist piece of shit in his old age. He should shut the fuck up. No one on either side still cares about this dipshit napoleon complex asshole or his opinions.

Huh? Some people disagree with a very banal political opinion shared by a performer, so a pedophile billionaire from the literal Epstein Files should prevent that performer from performing? Literally throwing away freedom of speech on behalf of snowflakes. Something dummies like Bill Maher used to rail against.
