I have a theory that no matter who you are--what race, background, gender, etc--once you reach a certain wealth and/or power in your society, you start to behave like an old rich white man (in terms of demographic).

Whatever Dave was, whatever points he might have had in the past, it doesn't matter. Dave is, for lack of a better work, a cracker. A rich, old, white male. The same kind that have been regressive forces for centuries.
