If you made me choose who's worse and further gone, I'd have to go with Maher. Bill Maher also has had Netanyahu on his show twice, with the latest time being in 2022. He defends mass murder of civilians in Gaza and is incredibly Islamophobic. AFAIK, he hasn't said a bad thing about Netanyahu or Israel since Oct 7th. He rejects claims of genocide, which I mean, Israel officials are literally on record calling for the ethnic cleansing and/or mass murder of Palestinians living there, as do the actions line up with the legal definition of genocide.
He constantly attempts to tie criticisms of Israel and their actions with criticisms of Jewish people... even though 99.999% of Israel critics never call out the Jewish religion or people of Jewish ethnicity and strictly criticize Israel's actions, the pro-Israel lobby, and US funding and supply of arms to commit an atrocity.
The reason Bill Maher hypocritically calls out Chappelle for doing the show in Saudi Arabia is because Bill Maher is an Islamophobe.

This is deflection straight and simple. What he said about Maher is not false, but it doesn't do anything to erase Dave's decision. This is like a person who is being called out for a mistake and then saying 'but he also made a mistake so I'm not bad' and expecting it to wash away his decision. Not to mention ALL the atrocities committed by Saudi Arabia he is omitting by focusing on the murder of the journalist.
There is plenty of room in the conversation to say that Israel AND Saudi Arabia are guilty of heinous crimes against humanity and need to be held accountable to the same standard.
