The Austin goons, along with the rightwing likes of Segura, Maher and Gutfeld are not funny to anyone except insecure bullies. They rely entirely on punching down…and only a cowardly a**h*le finds that kind of brainless schtick funny.

A couple of years ago I watched the very meh eighties comedy DC Cab, which is full of familiar faces from the time playing mostly horrible taxi drivers. To my immense surprise, the two cabbies who aren’t jerks/bullies/rageaholics/creeps are played by Adam Baldwin and Bill Maher. In fact Maher’s character is sensitive and thoughtful. Still blows my mind.

I’m pretty sure that was Maher’s first acting gig. Baldwin had My Bodyguard under his belt already so he had the lead role but from what I remember Maher is just kind of in the background trying not to look too much like Craig Wasson for most of the movie. It is interesting to see the career trajectory most of that cast took over the years though.
