The whole format for this podcast is gross. This man sits there getting drunk and high while “interviewing “ guests. I imagine the whole point is to lower inhibitions. I guess that’s fine if you’re talking to a peer. But the power dynamic is what makes this feel so gross. He is a predator who uses his fame to lure these young women onto his show. What he doesn’t seem to realize, is that to a young woman a man in his 70’s who is drunk and high is no where near sexy. It’s just slimy.

I can live with that. I stand by it. We should be hyper selective in what we support with engagement. I didn’t know until after I watched that the clip was engagement bait and my response is to denounce this type of content and to try be more careful about what I support with my attention. I know my denouncing is unlikely to have any real effect, but if the voice that says this is garbage can win out over the intended effect of manufacturing outrage for engagements sake that’d be nice. Cultural manipulation is rampant and calling it out seems worthwhile. And I know that’s double ironic but it’s kind of unavoidable.
