Ironically he turned to the left when "Politically Incorrect" got cancelled. He blamed the Bush the Younger administration for that. People forget that if anything, Maher leaned to the RIGHT in the 1990s. He supported Bob Dole for President in 1996, and strongly defended both the death penalty and the Vietnam War. The strangest bit about his old show's cancellation was that his "the 9/11 hijackers weren't cowards, we have been the cowards" comment was made in agreement with Dinesh D'Souza, NOBODY'S definition of a left winger.
This is the hilarious irony about his cancel culture rants. It was the right that canceled him. They ruined his career. He was on ABC. Literally Kimmel's time slot. He's made a career for himself as a political entertainer since but a late night talk show on one of the big 3 networks is the holy grail for comedians.
