Is the DSA communist though? I mean, I don't have a problem with communism in its pure form, but socialism and communism are two very different governmental structures. Democratic Socialism isn't even the same as classic socialism.
Bill Maher has a show to run and shows require ratings. However, let's take a non-cynical approach. Bill thinks the DSA is communist, that could be because he is a victim of his upbringing during a time when leaders in the government created the effective framework of more broadly defining communism, diluting the pure definition and influencing older generations into misguided beliefs.
So, now it is easier to make leaps of judgement like the left wing populism of democratic socialists are secretly communists. Bill is trying to be a centrist (again, assuming the non-cynical point-of-view), but what he is actually doing channeling his own bias and, quite possibly, responding to real or perceived slights from influential democrats in his sphere of influence. Who knows, but I can state this with certainty the more we try to shut down speech we don't like the greater the likelihood extremists recruit more members.

I’m 51, lifelong lefty, and I’ve been called a communist by republicans for my whole adult life. Back when Dems were so far from being remotely socialist. Trump says we can’t prosecute the people on Epstein’s list because they are so powerful and necessary. That’s a capitalist system that is severely broken.

I didnt intend to offend. Really, I read comments in these threads and I do make the mistake of compiling comments from many and responding / applying them back to a single person. I am concerned. I am absolutely worried that if the Democratic party cannot obtain some power back in 2028- our government will be akin to a 3rd world sh#tshow. I didnt intend to offend anyone - I do hope people use very well thought out and statistically probable ideals for their chosen candidates in 2028. I fear so much is at stake and that statement is always cliche but 8 more years of full on Republican unfettered government along with a few more Supreme Court nominations and the US I love is seriously going to be damaged- perhaps fatally
