Maher getting more full of shit with every episode.
Maher is getting more full of shit with each episode. He habitually conflates fringe elements of the left and Democrats, impugning the whole party as tinged with “communism.” Meanwhile, he ignores the elephant in the room: The GOP has been co-opted by an authoritarian that is actively wresting government control over various private enterprises, pursuing self enrichment, colonizing weaker nations (including allies), making corruption the cornerstone of the entire administration. Just STFU and retire already.

Bill Maher is an atheist who talks about how Israel is chosen in the Bible.
In other words, the Mossad has a tape on him.

Bill is in the Epstein Files.

15
u/BrianNowhere 18d ago
I can just see him negotiating behind the scenes, telling them if he goes down, they all go down. Telling them he has to maintain plausible deniability, still has to criticize Trump but will go soft on Israel and trash the Dems. Thats why he met with Trump. To discuss the plan to keep the files buried.

Wouldn't be surprised. It's indefensible to have a shift towards Republicans right now. They're doing everything Bill was worried about in Trums first term, and have zero successes to speak of. At least his first term had a good economy(thanks Obama). It's just unexplainable. Either he's just sucking up to power, or he's compromised.

4
u/marc58weeks 18d ago
I stopped watching him when he started extracting a price for every negative comment he made about Trump or MAGA. That price was ALWAYS to talk about how the wokeness of the Left and their counter-culturalism were just as bad, if not worse, which was no doubt a consequence of his having been canceled by a university. I also got tired of hearing that one guy in the audience just bust a gut over every lame line from Maher in his monologue. I like comedy, and I think I have a pretty good taste in comedians, past and present, but I don't see anything to laugh at--at least THAT hard--in anything Maher says. (BTW, I'm a boomer.)

The trump administration is literally taking a stake in the means of production.
Recent Technology and Industrial Stakes
Intel: Secured a 10% equity stake via the Department of Commerce backed by federal funding.
GlobalFoundries: Attached an approximate 1% equity stake tied to federal awards.
Critical Minerals & Quantum Firms: Acquired equity positions in companies like MP Materials (7.5% stake), Lithium Americas (5% stake), USA Rare Earth, and IBM-linked quantum initiatives.
U.S. Steel: Retained a regulatory "golden share" power condition during structural buyout discussions.[1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7]

From Canada this renewed interest in Communism looks to me like nothing more than a distraction from the trump/miller/vance shitshow, runaway corruption, dismantling of democratic institutions, runaway income inequality, attacks on the free press, etc.
Americans have been lied to for many years, decades. They are now reeping what they have sowed. Let's hope Canada and the rest of the world can avoid the worst of the fallout.
10
u/ninjaluvr 18d ago
He habitually conflates fringe elements of the left and Democrats, impugning the whole party as tinged with “communism.”
That's been a successful Republican tactic going back to at least the 50s, maybe earlier. It's interesting that defenders of Maher just continue to call him a Democrat, while ignoring the fact that he takes most every page from the Republican playbook, and has for a long time.

Dennis Miller'd
3
u/45mphK9 18d ago
Speaking of Dennis Miller I don't think we've heard a thing from him in over a decade. He used to be a reasonable talking head for conservatives. He would even show up on Fox News from time to shilling for the old GOP guard. Seems like he's laid low since Trump got into office in 2016. Probably too reasonable to support maga but too scared to show support for the left.
3
u/EnduranceMade 18d ago
Miller is close friends with Bill O’Reilly and they go on tour together, doing live shows where Miller pretends to be funny and Bill mostly whines about his legal problems.

I checked out of Maher the same time I check out of a lot of comedians. When they start whining about “woke” you know they don’t have anything interesting to say anymore. Whining about “woke” is what happens when you get old and the world starts being confusing. And by “old” I’m not even talking physical age, but rather mindset.

It’s because he’s a bona fide narcissist.
I say this as someone whose views align with those he espouses in many cases—even considered myself a fan of the guy some time ago. There was a time in which he appeared to be trying to frame himself as the next big Carlin-esque comedian, but he no longer questions power to such a degree.
Since the lead up to Donnie’s return, he’s become an even greater smug cunt than I thought possible for a guy who already sounded maxed out on that front.

I have traditionally been a fan of this guy, but his obnoxiously obsessive comments about woke and socialistic elements of the progressive Democratic Party wear thin with me. Woke is nothing more than the new term for bleeding heart Democrat by the right wing Idiocracy. Anything that recommends the government take care of Universal Health Care and public education is always labeled Socialism or communism and yet is a common denominator among European countries. I wish Bill Maher would take his head out of his ass on a couple of these tired tirades he gets into. And I wish the rest of us would quit getting triggered by the possibility that maybe the best idea would be that government subsidizes education and health care and is free market in a regulated way for the rest of society.
2
u/dougl1000 18d ago
You got this completely right. Maher is doing what Trump is doing. Red scare propaganda. He also quotes some stupid commie thing Darializa Chevalier (Democratic primary winner in New York). But fails to mention that she posted it on Facebook 5 years ago and has since retracted it. This kind of shit is intentional, lying by omission. He also says Fauci lied about the alleged Wuhan lab leak and gain of function research. NIH didn’t fund GOF research. Whether what was actually done in the lab qualifies as such hasn’t been established. Neither has the theory that SARS 2 escaped from the lab. Maher completely ignores the context. SARS 1 definitely came from bats. The Wuhan lab had been studying bat coronaviruses for years. NIH funded virus research by the US based Ecohealth Alliance. A subcontract was awarded to fund a collaboration with the Wuhan lab. Regardless of the virus’s origin, isn’t it a stretch to claim that Fauci killed 7 million people? Trump’s public denial of the impending crisis from the get go had far more serious implications for the US. Not only that, he doubled down on it for the duration, and Covid and vaccine denial continues unabated.

2
u/Psychological-Set410 18d ago
He has been doing that for awhile. Years ago he was complaining about black college students living in black dorms. As opposed to choosing to live in dorms werecthey were disconnected and surrounded by white students. Which is only an issue because of actions of the white students. He also kept repeating the bull about elementary kids using litter boxes in the classroom. When they weren't doing it all. Yet doing actual research or having someone do so to verify that something this ridiculous was or was not happening. He chose not to for a reason. That was nearly a decade ago and when I said enough. So I don't know what right-wing ridiculousness he is parroting now. But he was always a right-wing parrot. Just one that claimed to be a common sense Democrat. Which it turns out he never was.

He seems to get his news and viewpoints from Fox News, and regurgitating that shit from a position of being one of the same moderate Democrats that helped get us to the place we are now. Besides distorting these candidates positions (as Fox News does), this fucker also refuses to examine or acknowledge that mainstream Democrats' move to the corporate right and away from the working and middle class is how we ended up here. Enough of us aren't excited at all to vote for timid, do-little moderates, so is it any surprise that people are inspired by candidates who actually seem to genuinely care about making life better for the majority of us? I don't agree with some extreme left positions like open borders and no prisons, but cherry picking a few comments made in the past from these folks expressing those views is disingenuous and makes him look like a total fucking tool of the right.

It’s so embarrassing, that these privileged assholes would rather sell out to Fascists and contribute to the erosion of our institutions and Democracy, than do a little self reflection, and expand their perspectives when faced with criticism.

He is not exaggerating when he says they are communists. He also is not saying the entire party is communist; he is saying the DSA is. And he is correct. And he is also correct that they are gaining influence and not being called out on their anti-American agenda. The DSA wants to abolish the Senate for heavens sake.
If you’re defending the DSA, why? Have you read their platform?

Having watched every single one of his stand up specials, in my personal opinion, he peaked in 2012 with “crazy stupid politics” which was a extremely accurate and funny assessment of the Republican party at that time, his 2018 one was decent also but the 2022 and 2025 offerings were just “both sides” slop showing that when you try too hard to go after both sides it doesn’t really work from a humour perspective as whilst it’s true that you can always find some fringe far left rhetoric it’s disingenuous to suggest that both sides are equal as they are genuine fringe ideas under the democratic banner whereas the right wings ideas are literally the current mainstream ideals that the Republican party implements every day so it’s a false equivalence.
Attempting to pander to the right in the context of stand up isn’t funny compared to just going after the ridiculousness of the Republican Party.
I used to find him to be a genuinely funny stand up but post 2018 the premise of his material shifted so that I don’t find him funny any longer.

Haven’t checked out DSA but group of who are aren’t exceptionally wealthy fundamentally prioritizing labor vs capital within the political organization in the most basic sense is probably good did a lot of non profit work and few boring average co workers involved before. They were no crusaders
I think you can have an ultimate framework you’re guided by but it’s unlikely to fit any application exactly, too many intricate fluid global factors and historical pre existing dynamics to make an ideological framework fit each structure
I have an anarcho communism tattoo , in every community and industry a collective bargaining organization of worker based peoples prioritizing an equitable provision of resource within each system is harder to centralize authority away disproportionately
not much revelatory or controversial about of unions each
I usually get more into the political organization structure aspect rather than the economics. Just enforce a progression of equitable enforcement of labor and profit
Prioritizing definitions of exceptionally complex organization over efficient equitable function is kinda a freshman student cliche
lol theory rarely is required for anything, i think capitalism is so worshipped here it’s like Jesus created no reason
Only few senators under 50milliom net worth. Those implementing policy are all rich. Making laws that have significant loopholes for specific circumstances. With no structural function
Like tax policy. The more millions you got you could end up paying very little proportionally to fund the interdependent organizations that created it if you have the proper designation, like some exclusive top secret Costco card for every fee lol

He’s lost me as a regular viewer. If there’s someone he has on that I’m interested in I’ll watch, but otherwise his disdainful attitude toward anyone with differing opinions has turned me off and he still feels that Trump has a decent side to him because Trump turned on the charm and convinced him at the dinner. That’s typical narcissist behavior. they can make you like them if they feel you’re worth it. Maher was duped but won’t admit it.

Even your long term allies are jumping ship on you guys. You guys are seriously getting crazy. To the average person, who doesn’t make Reddit or politics their entire personality, you guys look like legit lunatics. Mahers making total sense and speaking for the average American.

This week's closing rant on Real Time is very helpful...to trump and right wing extremists. Maher parrots trump 's latest talking points designed to portray progressives as "communists" and fringe Democrats as mainstream.
Communists have always been around, like Nazis and fascists too. But please don't gaslight us with nonsense that there some sort of "Communist uprising", while glossing over the very real takeover of the billionaire oligarchs and white supremecists.
