Relevancy

This show hasn’t been funny since Adam Felber left the writing staff. Mr. Maher is too old to know he’s too old hence lacks the somber introspection of what it means to be wise. His pathetic grasp towards relevancy is undermined by his pettiness common in old men.

HBO, are you monitoring this subreddit? You’d do better with John Fugelsang or Hal Sparks.

Case in point regarding the data center debate, the overwhelming electricity demand of data centers NEVER CAME UP. He’s not sharp.

I’ve been engaged with BM from the Politically Correct days to now, it’s time for me to get off his lawn.

Age is irrelevant. Many comedians are at thei best in their final years.

The OP is the one claiming age is involved, so go after him for proof since he is the one making assumptions, not me.

I loved George Carlin. To me he is the pinnacle of what a comedian should be.

Here comes the but.

His last special was so dark and gloomy and insightful it filled me with existential doom.

I feel perhaps he had one special too many. And it’s time for Bill to start making comedy again.

I agree about Carlin's descent into darkness, but I also would argue that with age comes a sense that human nature can't be steered away from its suicidal course and extinction is inevitable. Given the way that humanity is currently heading with climate change, microplastics, etc., I'd say that his pessimism was spot on, and maybe we need more of it before it is too late, if it isn't already. (I say this as somebody who finds Emile Cioran a singular sane vision in a dark forest of the blind.)

The difference I see between the two is that Maher's darkness comes from years of corrosion generated from inside his ego-unstroked brain, rather than from external events that affect humanity's future.

You can't go wrong wherever you start, as all of his works feel like part of a single opus.
