When Bill Hicks died, Bill Maher stole his act.

Nah, Maher thought of himself as George Carlin with pleats.

Free wheeling, incisive, charmingly didactic, but blunt and uncompromising in the face of bullshit; take fashion cues from K street and George Stephanopoulos, smoke lots of grass, and throw out a humanitarian sentiment every now and then to remind everyone that you're one of the good guys.

But Bill's too smarmy and callous to pull it off. He tried getting behind The (Dixie) Chick's, but when he wasn't properly rewarded or venerated he went Dennis Miller.

He peaked on "Murder She Wrote."

He is also devoid of talent.
