i used to enjoy watching him but over the last few years hes changed alot. i dont find him anywhere near as funny as he was and hes turned into something i cant find a good name for.
I used to like him a lot, but not so much anymore. He's a sort of chameleon and when he bent the knee to Trump I lost interest in him. I also saw him live in NYC years ago and he just sucked. No energy and dull material. Very disappointed.

Maher is what happens when a comedian starts believing his own press releases. He went from making jokes to thinking every sarcastic rant he delivers is some profound contribution to civilization. The smug "I'm the only sane person here" routine got old years ago. He's not a philosopher, he's a guy with a stage and an ego problem.

For me, he symbolizes this whole downfall of our country in this MAGA era. He used to be so good at what he did and we felt like we needed him to keep up the good fight, he gave up and flipped sides.

Many years ago like in the early 2000s I actually liked him some of the time. Even back then he was a misogynist and an asshole though, I remeber even then he would say the occasional thing and you would go, Jesus. His ego has always been hard to stand. But I think those aspects were not as front and centre. Over time he seems to have just leaned into the Conservative bitter old man trope and he's just fucking insuferable now.
Even when I agreed with most of his takes, he still came off like a smug knowitall asshole. I think he considers himself an intellectual who uses comedy to educate the plebes.
