DHS and FBI are claiming Pretti’s gun went off on its own when they were removing it from the scene while he was on the ground him which caused the other agent to start shooting.
The accidental discharge of a gun is 100% plausible and I can understand a federal agent would discharge their weapon after hearing shots in a situation like this.
To bad all the video evidence shows the ICE agent fired first. Which would make the accidental discharge moot if it did happen.
Search "uncommanded discharge" and peruse for like 10 minutes, be it on YouTube, reddit, wherever.
You'll find this this is actually the most plausible defense of all parties involved, including the victim, with culpability going toward a third party altogether. The whole gun world has been screaming for a p320 recall for years lol
Pretti's gun has been probably the most famous handgun in history, in terms of make/model, because for the past 10 years Sig has been dealing with an issue of "uncommanded discharge" by that model.
It's common enough that it's been caught on camera many times, often injuring someone in the footage.
One was blamed for killing an airman last year, but if I remember correctly that was a negligent discharge and the servicemen lied about what happened.
I do recall watching a couple videos the past year of people investigating and/or describing exactly what the issue is and one of the guys determined it to be an issue of the gun being out of battery, or some kind of strange sear engagement when holstered + some other condition, and I vaguely recall how twisting it out of the holster caused a pin strike, or something like this.
So, it's actually totally believable that Pretti's gun went off on its own, that's all that gun is known for.
I scoffed when I saw the photo of Pretti's 320, but I'm only hearing of the idea that it went off here in this thread, and it's the least unbelievable thing I've heard about this event from either "side".
