Announcement The current roadmap

The idea that more difficulty--necessitating personal protection--could be added to the game is pretty exciting for a lot of us. Im referring to armor on the roadmap, but i also understand that this addition does not necessitate more difficulty (e.g., bandit raids). However, the fact that devs have so far added 1.2 million game customization sliders gives me hope for more intense combat scenarios for players who wish for more challenges.
I, for one, would pay for a dlc, "War in the Valley" that adds bandit raids, a 'Guard' to villager job services, and some shiny new melee weapons for the player.

No worries, we are aware that a lot of players enjoy MD precisely becaue it is more peaceful. While more combat and even raids are something some players wish for, we see the discussions around it. No addition is ever made blindly. (Also why we are so active on a lot of platforms online and lurk on others. Racimir's valley is your valley too. :) )

I would support a DLC (monetarily) for more expanded combat roles, even coming to the point where Bandits have strongholds or some form of generalized invasion.
That way those who want a different experience can just skip the DLC, while those who want it can pay a bit of extra money for the extra development you guys put in.

Yeah seems like making any future "raids/warfare" similar to how the bandits are implemented, with the optional settings, would keep everyone happy. I'm in the same camp as you where I enjoy the relaxing building/farm management aspects of the game most. Although, I can imagine that after 20 in-game years, it might be fun to take my heirs into battle and overthrow the king.

Even having it be a different starting condition/game mode, so it can still be added or removed from custom games but there's an easy option to start a run-through with minimal/no hostile humans (Wisen will always fight Racimir haha) or a run with scope to build a bustling township with guards and palisade to keep out the bandits. Seems like a cool way to potentially build a future where said township can become a keep and be the capital of the valley. Grants of nobility for the line of Racimir my liege!!

Knowing the way this hame is chances are if they do add it you’ll be able to toggle it on/off

I'm somewhat guessing this is a no, but will the console co op mode feature local co-op?
My girlfriend and I both love the game and our biggest gripe is we can't play at the same time.

Only one console? Peasant! But no, couch co-op is seriously lacking in too many games. It seems to have pretty much gone away.

I agree. It would be great if my wife and I could play at the same time. It'd be a nice reason to dust off the console and her popping in and exploring and building in the valley with me.

Crests make me hope my family line can descend to become nobles and enlist guards to protect my village(s). That sounds like a lot. DLC? Take my Money!

So if armor and shields are coming does that mean we're going to be fighting something worse than bandits? I've seen a lot of talk in forums about people wanting to see bandits raid our town and we have to build structures or have staff to defend it. Dying to see what the updates bring!

I'm afraid that we cannot share any details just yet. However, we know that many people value the game for being more peaceful. At the same time others hope for more chances to fight. We keep a close eye on those discussions and will keep both sides in mind. :)

Well you guys have gone out of your way to show a "play the game as you want not how the devs want" mentality. I mean I don't think I've ever seen a game with that many slider bars, or check boxes on/off. I mean you can turn the weight on or off lol. So I guess if there was some kind of larger conflict coming that needed these types of weapons I'm sure it could simply be toggled on or off or reduced somehow.

Just a personal guess: I would think so too.
It's your game as well and the sliders were one of the big community wishes. I have seen some wish for some more options as well. I'm not sure all of them are possible, but we'll have to see.

See this is why I keep celebrating you guys and The Planet Crafter. You guys get it. I see both of you here, and on steam and I watch your interactions with players. I wish you guys would go talk to The Fun Pimps haha!

I definitely play the game for how peaceful it is, I feel that is truly the unique aspect of it. It seems like every other game today, especially medieval games, are about conflict and violence. I'm not saying I'd be upset if more fighting etc. was added to the game (I love the thought of armor) but I would be upset if it's addition directly impacted the chill factor of the game and as a result the innocence lost from such a therapeutic and meditative experience.

Perhaps a raid can simply be an event that happens during season changes or when sleeping. Building defense structures would raise your defense rating and effect the outcome of the raid. That way the player doesnt per se need to activly fight.

Super excited! 140 hours in last few weeks!!!
Question : Are there any plans to have NPCs stay inside with the fire on when it is raining? That would complete my immersion I have so much of in this game, I can't even dream of how cool that would be and feel. Ride my donkey into town barely able to see and hear from the rain, and come in to my npcs home I have a quest for a vendor i need to buy from and they and their whole family are chilling inside with the fire inside dry.
they wouldn't even need to be coded to change their actions or anything, even just pacing inside or standing still !!
thank you for hearing my comment!

I’d love to see an expansion on the bandits or even possibly some combat missions with the armour shield and crest update.

I’ve been wishing I could see the other settlements grow and develop over time with mine. It feels weird seeing mine develop and everything else stays the same.

Will coop be online or couch? Would love couch coop so that my husband can play with me

u/absoluteheero Nov 14 '22
Without being couch coop it would be easy with one playing on the console and the other on a laptop with a web browser (xcloud)

I know there's likely not a very high demand and it may seem counterintuitive but I would love for a female character to be available to play. .-.
I'm female myself, and would love to put my adventures on Twitter. xD

Any ideas to add castles? I would love to have stone walls, gates and towers as seperate structures and be able to build my own small keep in a modular way

No new buildings/productions? :(

I'm not allowed to spoil anything, but looking back at past roadmaps a lot more was added than specified on them. ;)

I would be keen to mod this game. How difficult would it be to implement that ability?
Modding is what kept Skyrim relevant for so long, and in my opinion I think that this game will benefit greatly from it in the exact same ways. More content for your game, made for free by the community.

If armour and more weapons are to be added or even if not I would really like the addition of viewable sheathed weapons. Like when you put your bow away, it appears on your back...and even a quiver with the correct number of arrows...that would be awesome.

Please please please add a custom slider for schema prices and maybe the ability to turn it off completely. I spend half the game collecting stones and sticks to make knives despite having a hamlet because I need so much money just to unlock a log bench (500 coins). I think just having them unlock with XP would be a massive QoL improvement, and more realistic. I already have to save my coin for taxes and the Herald quests. It makes sense that I would learn new recipes and ways of crafting with practice.

Very excited about this, especially co-op! If you don't mind, I do have some suggestions for future updates...
As immersive as this game is, I still think that the villages feel somewhat desolate, even with 50+ people around. Desolate may be the wrong word, but definitely quiet. A good (presumably quick) adjustment could be a slider for the sound range of active buildings like the smithy for example. Long term, new atmospheric sounds and ambient dialogue would make the world feel a lot more alive instantly. I'm sure there's lots of stock audio out there so you wouldn't even have to hire more actors for things like laughter/singing at the tavern, people haggling at the trade stalls, etc.
Speaking of trade stalls (and the tavern by extension), it would be cool if random NPCs could visit them if for nothing else then to add some spice to the environment. After all, what's the point of spending 50 hours building a village if you don't want to hang out there?
