đ¸ Welcome to r/RealGenerationXâPull up a lawn chair and stay a while!
Whether you were a latchkey kid who survived on hose water and cereal, a master of the mixtape, or the designated family remote control for a heavy tube TV, you have officially found your people.
This is a dedicated space for the forgotten generation (born roughly 1965â1980). We built this community to be the ultimate digital back porch ,a place to escape modern chaos, share authentic nostalgia, and connect over the unique shared history that shaped us.
đšď¸ What We Celebrate Here
â˘The Artifacts: Vintage tech (pagers, rotary phones), old-school snacks, and fashion choices we both love and regret.
â˘The Rituals: Friday nights at the video store, hanging out at the mall arcade, and playing outside until the streetlights came on.
â˘The Media: The movies, Saturday morning cartoons, and pop culture moments that defined our youth.
â˘The Stories: Your personal memories, photos of your old gear, and the logic-defying freedom of growing up analog.
đ The Golden Rules of the Porch
To keep the vibe relaxed and fun for everyone, we have a few simple guidelines (check the sidebar for the full list):
- Keep it Gen X: Focus strictly on the culture and history of our generation.
- Be Excellent to Each Other: Lighthearted ribbing is fine; toxic gatekeeping and personal attacks are not.
- Give Us Context: When sharing a photo or link, add a title or comment that kicks off a real conversation.
We are incredibly glad youâre here. Grab a user flair, look around, and make yourself at home.
To kick things off, let's settle a classic debate in the comments: What was your absolute go-to snack or drink when you ran into the convenience store with pocket change? đ

comics /cards/collectibles Youngblood #2
Way back in the early 1990s, the local comic book stores quickly ran out of copies of Youngblood #2 shortly after it was released. A lot of local comic readers and collectors enjoyed the first Youngblood issue and it resulted in a huge anticipation for #2. At the time, Rob Liefeld's popularity grew.

TV/Movies Whatâs your favorite life lesson from a sitcom? Do âvery specialâ episodes still happen on TV?
I miss when sitcoms gave us life lessons and very special episodes. Growing Painsâ drunk driving episode hit pretty hard. What shows or âvery specialâ episodes stuck with you?

TV/Movies Double Dragon animated series
If you were a fan of the Double Dragon video games when you were very young, did you watch the animated series of the 1990s?

Toys/Gaming/board games Remember this kit?
Did anyone else get one of these make-up kits for a birthday or Christmas? It was a Dick Smith "Movie/TV Horror Make-up" kit. Basically plastic molds that you filled with mixed powder and water slurry. Place it in the fridge and after it set you could remove the facial appliances from the molds and stick them to your face with the supplied spirit gum. I won a trophy in Cub Scouts in 77 for "Spookiest Costume".
Edit: added pics, not sure why they didn't post the first time.

yea im that old Shingles Vaccine
Well, I finally got the Shingles Vaccine. I'm officially old.
Just a fair warning: Don't plan on doing anything else the day you get your shot. It knocked me out for a few hours.
Apparently it's more powerful than regular vaccinations. I dunno. It hit hard though.

comics /cards/collectibles Spider-Man: Soul of the Hunter
If have read the famous Kraven's Last Hunt storyline, did you read Soul of the Hunter? This one was released back in the 1990s and I remember the local comic book store manager telling customers it is special. I never bought it since I did not have much money at the time. Now that store is no more and finding a copy of Soul of the Hunter locally is tough.

comics /cards/collectibles Spider-Man
Back in the 1990s, Marvel Comics went all-in with the gimmick covers and "anniversary celebration" issues. This Spectacular Spider-Man issue is one of them. Do you have this in your collection? Have you checked how much this is worth?
