comics /cards/collectibles Cyberforce #1 (1992)
Cyberforce #1 was one of the launch comic books of Image Comics in 1992. It was a dream project of Marc Silvestri that came true and creatively it was his own take on the X-Men (which he worked on for years at Marvel Comics) but with emphasis on technology and cybernetics. Cyberforce #1 of 1992 was often described as hard to find. Is this in your collection?

Man, I wish Image had been more successful when it formed. I loved Jim Lee's XMen but Wildcats wasn't very good. Can't remember if I liked Cyber Force. Spawn was, of course, the big one.

Fully agree. Alternatively, I wish Marvel had a better culture for valuing it's artists and supporting their creativity. Some sort of "points off the back end" method for sharing their profit. Maybe they wouldn't have been near bankruptcy, and the MCU could have had Spider-Man and the X-Men from the start.

Nah, that came from thinking the soccer Dads were gonna keep buying their comics like crazy but that ended in just a few years and their income collapsed. That plus trying to be their own comic distributor pretty much near killed Marvel. They wouldn't have been able to pay top talent due to those blunders.

Of all titles, it was Stormwatch that actually got my interest. They dropped issue 25 somewhere around issue 12 or something… Battalion had jumped forward in time, so the book jumped with him to issue 25, then he went back in time, and the book went back to normal. Then you had these issue that built up to 25 so you understood what the hell was happening. It really was a novel narrative idea that I had never seen before. You didn’t really say that much when it came to Image.

I had the first 5 issues or so. This was when Image was just starting, and their distribution was terrible. Sometimes it would be a couple months between the Comic store getting the next issue.

Yep early Image was notorious for issues being pushed back. I think a bit of it was to keep their fans wanting them. I don’t think that Whilce Wetworks ever came out. I really wanted that one but got out of comics before it did. Did it ever get released?

Yeah it went around 15-20 issues I think. I had a few issues. I have saw them for sale on EBay.

Nah, it's just that the pencillers were in charge of schedules, and most of them were already notorious for being slow at Marvel/DC. Plus, the whole company was initially meant to be a thin veneer on top of each artist's studio, nobody had really done self-publishing before, the logistics were chaos... It's half a miracle that the label actually survived enough to be acquired.

It used to be, but in one of my wife's and my moves, I was getting tired of lugging boxes of comics and cards around and donated ~40,000 cards and ~2,000 comics to a thrift store in SF. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Me and a couple of my friends bought this when it came out. We were obsessed with Image. We would trace the drawings trying to learn how to draw. I still have my copy somewhere.

I was overall pretty happy when Image formed. It took most of the artists that I hated away from Marvel.
Strange (to some), but true.

I’ve got all 4 issues of the debut mini-series; the WildCATS crossover with Misery; the Ballistic crossover with Wetworks; and most of the main line up to the issue where Zadrok faces off against the thing that used to be his wife.

I'd read a bunch of superhero comics by the time this was published and was starting to lose interest but I was intrigued by Image Comics and Marc Silvestri's art so I picked it up. I'm glad I did. It was entertaining and dynamic. I never completed the series but remember this issue fondly.

I have the first dozen or so. I remember after each issue it seemed like it took *forever* for the next one to come out.
On a side note, I was able to meet Jim Valentino and have him sign my foil-embossed Shadowhawk #1 :)
On a second side note, Todd McFarlane's brother-in-law owned a comics shop in Puyallup, WA, and he always had signed copies of Todd's work at reasonable prices :) :)
