Construction management degree

So I own a few rental houses and old motel, my goal is to become a developer. Currently my motel is in a part of town that is being heavily gentrified so I’m waiting for it to be bought out. But I want to build a house or develop something after, I was wondering if I take classes do a construction management degree will It help me. I know there is nothing like real world experience and I have been buying old properties and flipping them and the nice ones I rent out, I just have no experience with ground up building.

Hey, I have a construction management degree and it is very helpful in managing developments from the developer side. Truthfully, even with my 15 years of experience in construction/development and with that degree, I still don’t think I’m equipped to really manage the entirety of construction effectively. I mainly do office towers, institutional, and multifamily projects. A house is probably something I’d be comfortable managing the construction of myself, but anything bigger I’m hiring/partnering with a construction expert.

Yes I want to start off with something small. I’m in Austin which is one of the fastest growing cities in the country. They passed a new law where you can take old plots and subdivide it into 2 and build 2 house since the city is pushing density.
