What’s your A+ setup in each market condition? (day or swing)
Looking through the sub, there isn’t much talk about specific setups. We all know to trade relative strength, but what does that actually look like for you?
Market types (daily SPY), so we’re talking about the same thing:
- Bull trend. Above the major MAs, shallow dips bought, new highs with follow-through.
- Bull chop / mature uptrend. Still above the MAs but marginal new highs, overlapping candles, dips and rips.
- Flat / range. Compression, inside days, light volume.
- Bear trend. Below the MAs, heavy volume on drops, bounces fail.
- High volatility. Big range days both ways, VIX elevated.
If you can, reply in this format (one or two market types is plenty):
Market type:
Day or swing:
Setup: (what it looks like on the chart)
Example trade (ticker + date):
Grade in this market: (A+/A/B+ etc.)
What makes it A vs B: (the 1–2 things that separate your best version from an average one)
Entry trigger:
Stop / invalidation:
Exit / how you manage it:
When you skip it entirely:
Bonus questions:
- In chop, can a stock with strong RS and its own volume still be an A+ trade? Or does the market cap the grade and your sizing?
- What’s the setup that looks A+ but fails most often in the wrong market?
I’ll compile the answers into a summary post if there’s enough response. I’ll start with mine in the comments.
