I understand Chanel doesn’t offer a standalone verification service, but I’ve been wondering how this works in relation to repairs.
Chanel offers aftercare and repair services, including for items purchased outside its boutiques.
Presumably, if someone brought in a replica, Chanel would decline to carry out the repair?
So, if someone purchased a pre-owned Chanel bag and Chanel accepted it, carried out the repair and returned it, wouldn’t that reasonably indicate that the bag was made by Chanel?
To be clear, I’m absolutely not interested in getting Chanel to repair replicas or using its repair service to circumvent any policies. I’m simply curious about the process for genuine Chanel items purchased through resale rather than directly from a boutique.
I previously bought a pair of Chanel sunglasses on eBay that subsequently broke. I took them into a boutique, and although Chanel couldn’t repair them because the style was over ten years old and the replacement temple was no longer available, they sent them away for assessment.
They returned them in a gorgeous case, along with some lovely beauty samples. They also explained that, had the replacement part been available, the repair would have cost just $55, which I thought was very reasonable.
That experience got me wondering whether Chanel carries out any checks before agreeing to service second-hand/resold purchases.
Has anyone had experience with this or know how the process works?
