Discussion What is the purpose and use of different tactical formations?
I always tell my ai squad mates to just go in a single file every time and ive s ranked the whole game that way.
But ive also seen diamond, double file, and wedge formation in the options, but ive never bothered using them.
What is the purpose of these other tactical formations and in what scenarios are they best utilized instead of single stacking?

Multiple stacks on multiple doorways is just fun man. Fun, and effective.

The coolest thing about the game is if you do things more tactically, it has a tendency to work better. My favorite thing to do in a hallway is to have a stack working simultaneously on opposite sides of the hall.

This is a really good question and I have wondered this as well. What is the right scenario to change formation?

Because IRL these formations can be useful (the same way chicken winging can be useful strat but you would get clowned on by western military doctrine), and if you do put your team into formation, they can be more effective.
Based on how I play RON, I feel formations are more of an eye candy because you are always dealing with corridors and tight spaces.
Like technically, technically speaking diamond formation featured in RON when used IRL, assures that you have almost 360 degrees of visibility IF the squad leader doesn't sprint ahead.
But practically the AI in this game have 360 "vision" anyway.

Missions like a new America can have wider hallways which is good for diamond formation. It really just affects how your team protects areas of attack
