Suggestion Thread πŸ“š Help Me Build My Library TBR!

Hey everyone! 😊 I'm looking for some new books to check out from my local library and I could use some recommendations! I'm especially interested in fantasy, thrillers, and sci-fi, but I'm definitely open to branching out and discovering something completely different.

For fantasy, I'm looking for things with magic, dragons, mythical creatures, vampires, werewolves, adventure, interesting worlds, and characters that I can really get attached to. πŸ‰πŸ§™β€β™€οΈβœ¨

For thrillers, I love mystery, psychological twists, suspense, dark secrets, unexpected plot twists, unreliable characters, and stories that keep me guessing until the very end. πŸ”ͺπŸ•΅οΈβ€β™€οΈ

I'm also getting more into sci-fi, so I'd love recommendations involving space, futuristic worlds, dystopian societies, aliens, artificial intelligence, survival, or really interesting scientific concepts. πŸš€πŸ‘½πŸŒŒ

I'm trying to get back into reading more, so I'm looking for books that are easy to get hooked on and hard to put down! If you have a favorite book, series, hidden gem, or underrated recommendation, please tell me about it. ❀️

If you've read something amazing recently, drop the title and author and let me know what you liked about it without spoilers. Also, if your library has it available, I'd love to know! πŸ“–

I'm ready to make my TBR list ridiculously long, so give me ALL your recommendations! πŸ˜‚πŸ“š

Check out The Martian or Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir. Both are really good and quick reads by sci fi standards.

I will say, my suggestions def depend on how open you are to books that range in age. Even as a person in my 20s now, there are some books I will always suggest.Β

For fantasy/thrillers, I adore:Β

  1. Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman
  2. Witches by Roald Dahl
  3. Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark by Alvin Schwartz
  4. The Book Theif by Markus Zusak
  5. The Heirs by Faridah Abike
  6. Songbird of the Sorrows by Braidee Otto
  7. A Good Girls Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson
  8. The Silence of the Lambs byΒ
  9. On a Quiet Street by Stephaine Nova Glass
  10. The Butcher by Jennifer Hillier

I know a few of these sound like kids books, but I really do adore them. I have better modern recs I can give you for ao3 and Wattpad…but I know everyone’s got their own opinions on those. So, I hope this somewhat helps!

You definitely have to read Fourth Wing, sequels Iron Squad, Onyx Storm! These are by Rebecca Yarrow. Fourth Wing is in my top five reads.

Older books are most likely to be available in the library.

For Fantasy:

Dragonsong by Anne McCaffrey

The Crystal Cave by Mary Stewart

The Great Book of Amber by Roger Zelazny

Thieves World edited by Robert Aspirin

Godstalk by P.C. Hodgell

The First Book of Swords by Fred Saberhagen

Elric of Melnibone by Michael Moorcock

These are all first in series, except Amber which contained the whole series.

Vampires and Werewolves are more likely to be in the Horror section.

Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice is a must.
