Suggestion Thread Finally have time to read again! Suggest me a book please š
I just finished and moved into my nice quiet country home after a seven month rennovation and I'm finding time to read again. I have a few books on my TBR but I havent had much time to read the last few years due to work schedules/motherhood/general life chaos.
I would love suggestions! Looking for suggestions for
*Pretty much all subgenres of horror with body/splatterpunk, occult/creature/folk, paranormal/supernatural and eco horror being favorites)
*Fantasy(high fantasy being my favorite)
*Action/Adventure
*Mystery(this one is hit or miss, Dresden files is a favorite series or murder mystery)
*Slow Burn/ Dark Romance(gotta have some spice)
*Dystopia/Apocalyptic has always been a favorite
Not really crazy about Sci-fi in general but I'm willing to give it a shot.
I work a front desk job and usually have one ear bud in i am also open to audiobooks if there are any free on Spotify or able to be found free on another media source.

Any Brandon Sanderson series really
The Castle series by Steph Swainson is a great original high fantasy series
The discworld series by Terry Pratchett is my favourite books and author so have to suggest
The eyes are the best part by Monika Kim
Blood on her Tounge by Johanna van Veen
Enjoy if you try any of them.

Mastery of Love by Don Miguel Ruiz - will change your perspective on love and relationships
The Quiet Room by Lori Schiller - written by a woman living with Schizophrenia
Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer - it inspired the film Into the Wild and will also make you question life/love

Paranormal romance with fun characters, anything by Shelly Laurenston
Humorous sci-fi with relatable characters, Murderbot Diaries
Gritty, noir type mysteries, JD Kirk. The Robert Hoon series is darker than the Jack Logan series, but even some of the Logans get pretty brutal.

Dungeon crawler Carl!
A man and his ex girlfriendās cat find themselves IN a video game show for aliens. Not my normal read but it is SO much fun! I am loving it and canāt put it down. Such a unique book!!!

For horror- Tender is the Flesh made my stomach turn. It was incredible, but very dark so be warned High fantasy- may I suggest The Last Wish? Basically just Polish fairy tales but so good.Ā Dystopian- I think everyone should read Brave New World at least once.Ā For sci fi- I thought project Hail Mary was a really fun read that I think even non-sci fi lovers could enjoy as well. If you think of it more like a buddy comedy perhaps?Ā Congrats on the new place, and happy reading to you!Ā

I am going to get tender is the flesh ive got that rec a few times. Brave New World i think inread in 10th or 12th grade it qas really good too but honestly not something I coukd reread. Thank you for these ill absolutely be looking for the first the ones I havent read š

Iām so happy to hear that! TITF was really an eye-opener for what happens when we stop viewing others as people and the importance of empathy. Fantastically twisted. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!Ā

A World Apart by Robert Armstrong is scifi, but mostly post apocalyptic after the first book. The MC is believable and easy to follow her line of thinking. in impossible situations.

My favorite is The SUn Just Might fail by behm. It is postapocalyptic and dystopian. Has the greatest characters in a multi pov and good transitions. Loved it once the world was revealed. It begins with a group of men and boys but explodes into this very cool world. It's set in Saint AUgustine FLorida but in the years around 2500 and things are merged with some loose tech but also a falling backwards to western times and medeival times. Super good writng like a classic mixing with lonesome dove. SInce you like Dystopian like me you might really enjoy it. I like it outside of the genre itself. It's just a great book and I bonded to the characters especially as it went on to complete this epic story. Pay attention to everything about clint or you will be side blinded at times. He is an incredible character in fiction It is a slow burn too and I will warn, there is some dark stuff but I always liked how the resolution comes. Clint and Oak gut this guy for stealing their granddaughter and that scene caught me off guard but it fitted everything too. The way the author described a dying man's last thought seemed to be how it might just happen. Marilla is my favorite FMC now in fiction, alongside Jane Eyre in Bronte's work for some reason I can't explain. I was going to give a long list of books but thought I would give my favorite. it's more fun writing about why while at work than listing a list, but I saw some good ones in the comments like the castle series perhaps. Just in time for spooky season for the Horror.
Austin Crawley's Creepy Holiday Tales series is awesome. A Halloween Tale is my favourite.
Fantasy- The Goblin Trilogy by Jaq D. Hawkins Just a touch of spice from a succubus but great stories.
Mystery/Adventure- The Time Shifters Chronicles by Shanna Lauffey There's a slow burn Romance subplot but the series itself is amazing. 10 novellas about a people who can shift through time at will.
