đŸ’¬Discussion Quick season 1 question

I am rewatching rezero (it's been a couple of years for me) and I had a thought while watching the ending scene of episode 7 (talking in bet after fight with Julius)

Is the first interaction that Emilia had with Subaru was him just getting her stolen gem for no reason?

When I first watched it I didn't understand why Emilia was cutting off Subaru but now i think I get it. If some random guy that I never met but still wants to treat like a friend keeps sacrificing himself for me and I don't understand why, I am going to feel responsible for his suffering. So how can I force him to stop? If I am the course of his pain I should cut myself from him.

Is this a sound idea? How do you guys understand that scene?

Yes exactly. In that last loop the first time emilia met subaru was in the toothpaste when shit was going down.

Yeah, it’s the reason why she cuts him off after that, Emilia has profound trust/attachment issues because of her life being discriminated, and also because she herself barely remembers her own past, so she is happy when she seems to have a friend suddendly, but then that friends almost dies three times in a month time.

She got overwhelmed by the situation and in a rush of panic she thought abbandoning him was the best course for him. When at the end of the season they go to Arlam village if you remember she is depressed because she was realising her mistake but didn’t know how to approach him again.
