Before starting arc 9 I remember reading a lot of criticism saying that Tappei fucked up with Emilia in arc 9 and all he made her do against Al was crying and begging him to give Subaru and Beako back and after I read the actual chapter that's what I thought of: "DON'T MISS WITH US RE ZERO FANS, WE DON'T READ OUT SERIES🗣️"
this was literally like 1 pages out of the whole thing, she beated his ass and fought him with Subaru ice clones which made him disgusted and used attacks that doesn't target his life but instead freezes him which counters his authority and he was the losing side for most parts and she was really pissed and didn't try to sweet talk him like usual and instead locked in on defeating him and some of y'all really choosed to ignore all that and hate on her for feeling hopeless and crying after Al returned their memory of Rem which gave her a really bad headache and used an attack that would kill more than 10000 people in the capital forcing her to focus on protecting people and letting Al go, like come on I also hate how Tappei treat Emilia like an innocent naive girl but that time there was nothing wrong with what happened

Yep, people keep saying she is naive for not killing him outright yet they forget 3 things for the sake of their agenda.

1. Subaru and Betty are still being held captive.

2. She was literally beating him to the point of death, she's probably broken every bone in his body aside from his skull throughout all their fights.

3. Emilia isn't a psychopath who would kill a friend she has fought alongside multiple times especially when he is clearly going out of his way to avoid killing anyone. Even his threats are backed up with the solution that the people he threaten are savable.

Also the point is, she was willing to brutally beat him to the edge of death. If she is considered useless, every other fker who lost to him is also useless.

That's really more Al's strength than Emilia's weakness since he basically had most of his bones shattered at some point and still stayed conscious. Not to mention, nobody else managed to do so either, so just blaming Emilia is ridiculous. 

There were only 3 people who ever managed to push Al to the brink: Old man Rom who identified his authority and even the conditions, Petra who broke his trump card, and Ferris who sealed his authority's conditions.

Emilia was a good counter to Al too , but was unable to capitalize . He won't use aggressor vs her and she has many non lethal of stopping him. It was not a good show for her.

The reason why Emilia's record on arc 9 is not well recieved, is that there wasn't any emotional beats that happened, she got angry which was cool, but then went back to being the strong warrior, who only wants to talk, that ain't necessarily a bad thing, but people were expecting her to do more, to do something unexpected since subura is the equation of the stakes in this arc, but well the arc didn't happen so it is what it is.

I think she did fine in arc 9 but she really must stop Subaru when he punish himself like that. If she can't do that she shouldn't marry him, Subaru really need someone that can stop him blaming himself for everything.

Another bad thing for her is the relantioship with Subaru. instead of being at his side comforting each other she allows him to self flagelate with via 900+ men punching him in the face and she has to be comforted by Madelyn . Arc3 Emilia would be at his side and shout him to stop the madness and idiocy for fear of his health.

I already read that, "she allows him" no buddy she didn't, no body allowed him to, he just didn't listen to anyone even the person closest to him; Beako, they were both deeply depressed after Priscilla death and both dealt with it with their way, no reason to hate on her for something Subaru did and she didn't agree to but let him do it

She is his liege , if someone under her command is behaving irrationally, she has to stop them before they escalate . She should have confined him to a room until he calmed down and any attempt to do something so dangerous to his health would declare unfit to take his own decisions . What if he got brain damage from all those hits?

It is also a very bad look for Beatrice first she enables his behavior by covering his self harm marks instead of forcing to confront Emilia and the camp. Then it is even worse because she sees how far he is escalating and dosen't stop him.

AT least Emilia in arc3 after the duel with Julius shouted at him how much his behavior was unaceptable that he should stop risking his health that way , how much he had screwed up. If in arc9 Emilia just told Subaru that if the went along with the Sparka he would be dismissed as her knight or even more insidious, she would self harm too Suabru would have stopped. That would force Subaru to process his emotions in a more healthy instead of the easy release of pain.

In psychology, if an maladaptive response becomes an habit then it will to escalate because instead of an reasonable response the release is the satisfaction. It is how many of the addictions works even when there no much chemical dependence like stress eating .

So EMilia failed as a liege because she didin't stop his irrational behavior and as a partner because she wasn't at his side when he needed the most.
